Re: Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag

This game has been owning my life.

AC2 was likely the best storyline of them all, but in the grand scheme of things, ACIV takes the cake for me, I probably spent more time in the past week on this game than 3 and the Ezio storyline combined, and I'm not bored, that's a huge accomplishment.

((I never finished the last game in the Ezio storyline and once I got through the AC3 storyline, I didn't touch it again. ))

Re: Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag

Damn this game is addicting. From the "classic" AC gameplay of parkour platforming and item collecting, to the privateering on the Jackdaw, to the (thankfully rekindled) stealth-driven assassinations this game just offers enough to keep you from getting bored and burned out. Still, the amount of things to do is manageable and doesn't feel over-abundant or overwhelming.

Its hard for me to rank all the main games simply because AC1 being the first combined with the time-period and story will always be special. AC3 is in a similar spot because its pretty rough around the edges, but Connor reminds me of Altair. Plus, I love the frontier setting and the time-period that surrounds the game. Something Ubisoft has been damn consistent of knocking out of the park has been the setting and time-period. Basically I feel like AC2 and AC4 take their previous numeral entry and refine and rework the gameplay to make it more organic and free-flowing which reflects in the main character.

Oh yeah, this game is beautiful too. I can't wait to see a full next-gen title.

How far into the story do you get the diving bell? I haven't unlocked the whole map yet. My next mission is "Prepare Defenses" or something along those lines.

Diving bell is around the time you're looking for medicines. You need it for main story mission so keep some money stashed away.

This is by far my favorite Assassins Creed....I like listening to the pirates sing and I find myself collecting all the stuff from the islands...

The only thing I don't like is swimming...

Using Nvidias Shadowplay I recorded this short clip....I just love the atmosphere!

Re: Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag

I finished the storyline last night. I'm one of those people that usually clears out all side missions, collectibles, etc before finishing the main story. I guess the story ended up dragging me in and I blew threw the last 4-5 sequences pretty fast. My save file is sitting at 83%, still so much to do.

Obviously there's a next gen (when do we call it current gen?) influx here all starting out. It's fun to read all the first impressions/experiences of people.

Anyone still on PS3 want to hook up for some MP? Wolfpack specifically? I'll probably start the back story tutorial missions or what ever they're called tonight.

The animus has always been the worst thing about these games. I remember playing AC1 and finally coming out and being like wtf, experience ruined.

I started really late but was up til 4am playing this game and had to just cut it off...finally took down the fort, basically because i had to and the game wouldnt let me not do the mission so I took it over before even upgrading more ship armor, which it told me i should do before starting the mission.

                    Im good to go now

Re: Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag

I am in the same boat as you guys. This game owns me right now. I got this in the nvidia bundle and by far it is my favorite one.

I did not like AC3, I thought it was a low point in the series but Ubisoft came back strong. This game is my favorite since AC2. So much to do in this game.

The missions are much more enjoyable. The Templar hunts were very fun to complete.

I also like that they removed the Notoriety Level from the game when on foot. I never thought that added anything to the game, other than stopping the game momentum.

The game is absolutely gorgeous on PC. So I know you next gen players must be getting a treat too.

Re: Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag

Captured my first Man O' War for my fleet, and WAAAAY before I should have, and did it without getting a scratch on the jackdaw.

I had just unlocked the fleet and was sailing south towards the next mission when I saw my first Man O' War in the free ocean, they are scary when the little ships put up a good fight. So I give the thing a wide birth, since I was in red waters, then I notice a TON of ships dead ahead and in my way. Crap, maybe I can sneak by else I am going to have to navigate a new path and waste a bunch of time. As I get closer I see killer whale sign, neat, hopefully my rickety canoe holds out. I catch my whale and start hearing gunfire. I get a little closer to the mass of ships, it's a Spanish Man O' Waragainst 2 British Man O' Wars and a spattering of smaller British ships, so I sit back and watch the show.

They just kept pounding each other with cannon and mortar fire, pretty cool to watch. Sitting there I see whale sign again, and get me another killer whale, and the ships are still fighting. I see the Spanish Man O' War's sails start to tatter and I start to think "if they soften this thing up good enough, I wonder if I can swoop in and nab it?" So I hang back, then I see the deck of the Spanish Man O' War catch fire, crap, did I wait too long? I loose all my sails and head straight at the Man O' War.

I get close and hit it with chain, still had two points of health before it was red, I let out a sigh of relief, it's not done yet. Then I realized I was staring down the bow of a Man O' War with two others that can't be happy I am inserting myself into this battle. I let loose a broadside, I was too close for mortars, then another broadside. The Spanish Man O' War was now nearly turned to hit me with a broadside, I mash the fire button just hoping to get it off before getting obliterated. My cannons go off and the board command goes live.

I tried to use the swivel guns, but I was too short to even see the deck. A short while later, half my crew is dead and I have my prize. Now I just need to outrun those other ships, which surprisingly wasn't much of an issue. I just wish I could sail that beast, I'll have to settle for sending it to trade.
