And they all have the oooo graphiks that youre talking about.

Dont make it sound like only linear games are capable of good graphics and sound. You ask for a PS4 exclusive that shows you what the console is capable of, outrageously linear gameplay is the epitome of what the PS4 is capable of? I can't buy that.

Order 1886 is a great game for rental consideration however. But for 60 dollars, you have to compare it to other 60 dollar games available; and it just doesnt stack up in value imo.
I'm not making linear games sound like they're the only ones capable of great graphics and sound any more or less than you are making open world games sound like the only ones capable of being captivating and engrossing games.

My whole point was what's wrong with variety? Why does every game have to be the same? Also, as good as some of those games looked, that's where it stopped...they looked good.

This game, both in my opinion and that of even some of the harsher reviews, is the best looking console game made to date. That can be attributed to a lot of things like development focus, console exclusivity etc etc. But this game, much like Gears of War some 8 years ago, set a new standard for console game graphics (and Uncharted 2 after that). When compared to most other games in their time, they were far more linear experiences. It is a lot easier to make a visually-arresting game when you can control how much the player sees of your world and when you don't have to pretty up square miles upon square miles of game area, like you do in open world games.

I plan on finishing this game over the weekend and trading it in immediately for a pre-order on another game. So if I pay $60 for it but get $30-$40 trade credit towards another game, is it $60 for an 8-10 hour experience or $30? I'm bothered by most reviews completely ignoring this aspect of the world we live in where trading in or reselling a game is an easy and viable option.

To be fair, that seems to be the general consensus on this game everywhere but here.

It's just strange that you don't see this kind of championing for the myriads of other mediocre games that come out. This thread has been fascinating.

        well well,what have we here....

        A couple of random shots....

Still enjoying this game alot, and what's funny is I'm not saying that to "justify my purchase"....This game is what I was expecting going in and have not been disappointed.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

A lot of other games that can be classified as mediocre bring nothing new or exciting to the table. This game, "bland" gameplay and all, does...its a beautiful looking and beautiful sounding game that nails the atmosphere of a time period that up until recently, has been all but ignored.

Its like its become taboo somewhere along the way to enjoy a game that looks and sounds amazing even if it doesn't necessarily do anything new on the gameplay front. I'm not directing this at you, personally. Just in general, reading some of the comments below the mediocre reviews for this game.

I can't believe I'm defending a Sony game as much as I am this one lol. I've always owned multiple platforms but have also always gravitated towards my MS hardware for pretty much everything but exclusives. I'm as close to an MS fan boy as there is without actually being one. But it feels like people are ripping on a game unfairly.

I'm most surprised by the "professional" game reviewers. Seems after every E3, all they do is complain about all the sequels and the lack of new IP's yet absolutely tore this game a new one with very few acknowledging the strengths of the game.

            Kramer, those screens look great.

Any opinion or feedback about the gun/gameplay mechanics thus far ?

Some highly touted games with awesome stories like The Last of Us had crippling gameplay mechanics for me. I just couldn't enjoy that game. I sort of get the vibe I'll find myself in a similar place with this game.

I'll probably get it as soon as I see a $40 price tag on it online.

I have too much going on between the laptop and few games I just purchased along with my deep collection of PS4 games.

                Re: The Order: 1886

FYI - Read on a couple of review sites that you may want to turn subtitles "on", due to the different languages that are spoken in game. I know many like to keep an authentic style, especially with a game like this. However, some of the conversation is important to know, and by turning subtitles off, it will also disable any foreign language conversations that occur.

Best looking game I've seen this Gen. Wasn't able to get far into this but I'm digging it.

Hopefully going forward in this thread it will be about impressions from those that are or have played

Not here in Canada there isn't and I have no trouble supporting a studio that tries something new. My reference wasn't to the people who rent games. There's few games you couldn't power through in a week's rental.

My reference was to the people saying they're going to wait until it drops to $30 or $40.

If I create a studio that creates a game, and it's literally a re-copy of Mario 1, are you going to say that I tried something new?

Perhaps you should have reworded it. Because the gameplay mechanics are basic, boring, and uninspired from what I've played.

If you like it, cool. But this is nothing new. At all.

No game looks like this, no game sounds like this, no game has touched on this historical fantasy/fiction...there's a lot more to games than just how I run, jump and shoot. Which btw, NO game has introduced anything revolutionary in the FPS/3rd person shooter genre in quite some time.

Its all rehashed ideas. This is a brand new IP that's not a military shooter, modern, historical or future. Nor is it a 200 hour RPG time sink or any other number of overdone game types. Hence, this studio tried something new in a number of ways minus most of the actual gameplay and they're being ripped on for not being new enough.

What is this an EXACT copy of, even gameplay mechanics-wise? And to counter that, what game that has come out in the last 5 years has been so revolutionary it didn't borrow most if not all parts from previous games before it?
