Re: Don't Starve
or like me earlier today. I was on a roll, putting together a great camp, plenty of food, around 5 rabbit traps out, couple gardens, and really was set to make it through my first winter........THEN....I did something stupid and didn't realize.
I had 23 flowers in my inventory. They were all almost "bad" so I decided to eat them for the +1 health benefit. I didn't know if they are all gone, your sanity drops quick. I went from full sanity to empty instantly. Now, I have the shadows after me and night is coming so I saved and quit. I'm going to be forced to build a torch and search non-stop running from the shadows only trying to find flowers to raise my sanity.
I doubt I survive it but I'm gonna try.Comment

Re: Don't Starve
So just having them in your inventory is beneficial? Interesting.
I was in the same boat last night with my camp, but I got a little too chop-happy against some spiders and one took me out.

Re: Don't Starve
That's always my downfall. Try to do battle with something because "Hey, this time I'll come out on the winning end." Only to die a stupid death.
Can someone explain to me what the deal is with Maxwell's Door. What's that all about?Last edited by areobee401; 01-17-2014, 04:40 PM.Comment

Re: Don't Starve
I'm not sure man, that is only thing I can see. Unless consuming them gives a negative to sanity BUT I thought that was only with evil flowers and I'm certain these were regular ones.
So either them in inventory give constant bonus OR eating them reduces sanity. I didn't look, I was at full sanity, ate all 23 back to back then whole world started shaking, looked down zero sanity.Comment

Re: Don't Starve
Rabbit ear muffs, I get them early and store them in a crate in preparation lol. Plus the main character beard should be full grown by first frost and that is supposed to keep him warmer. I have yet to experience any of this, but I did stay at a holiday inn express.Comment

Re: Don't Starve
This is a game that every part of me wants to hate (and has every reason to hate) but I love it.
Talk about the perfect game for a Vita.
If I had a Vita, I could sit around for hours just playing it.
Man, for a free game, I can think of a good 3-4 launch titles that Don't Starve is miles better than.Comment

Re: Don't Starve
Yeah.....I had those, but for whatever reason it wasn't enough. I needed the jacket or something else but I didn't have the resources to produce one. You can only stand by the fire so long....
It's tough to get that far along only to die from something unexpected. I like that though, as it really makes you think about your actions before you do something.
It stinks when you know your demise in inevitable.Comment

Don't Starve
For hunting turkeys, you don't have to chase them down and corner them. Drop a berry and watch him come. This is when you stab the crap out of him with your spear. Just be sure to kill it before it reaches the berry/carrot or it'll just run off with it leaving you with nothing.
I found that the beefalo hats is enough to keep yourself warm during the winter, so shave a few of them in preparation for winter.
Also Phobia, chests are good to stay organized. I have about 3 or 4 chests filled with items. Sure, I could drop them instead, but do you realize how irritating it'll be to find the right items to pick up?
Wish this game had some type of leaderboard, I'd love to see how far people on my friends list get.

Re: Don't Starve
So I made it 7 days into my first winter, day 30. The worst part about my demise, it was my own brazen stupidity that got me killed. AGAIN. This time hurt bad as 30 days was 11 days longer than my previous high.
Playing as Wilson my camp was very sustainable, no problem through the summer. 3 rabbit traps inside the facility, 3 drying racks, 4 improved farms, I was not hurting in the food department, and had plenty of other essential mats. As winter crept up on me, I started to scramble. I created my winter hat and threw a pair of earmuffs in the chest, just in case. Went to the forest to farm as many logs and pinecone I could carry.
So as the days past I mostly kept warm by the fire and ate what I could to keep my hunger and health up. The cold makes exploring difficult and my 4 total rabbit traps were literally JUST enough to keep me from starving. As my sanity dropped and supplies diminished I was forced to head out. And I did.
While gathering flowers, saplings and grass a group of penguins hopped out of the sea. One strayed a bit from the group and I thought I'd go for an easy morsel. Not so much. The pack turned on me and that was that...I could've turned the other way, finished gathering and headed home, and I most likely could have fought off the rest of the winter.
Long story short, this game will punish you and make you pay for stupid mistakes no matter how long you've made it. The only difference is it hurts more the longer you've gone. And hence cannot wait to start again tomorrow
this game is awesome.

Re: Don't Starve
Love, Love, Love this game. Cant survive past 7 days consistently though. 9 is my longest. My curiosity always gets the best of me. Taking things I shouldn't, trying to kill things I shouldn't. Every damn time I die I drop my head thinking "that was so stupid of me."
I havent seen this beefaleno thing yet. Still haven't bee able to start a farm. The one time I did find random manure on the ground I squandered it by
I had no business.

Re: Don't Starve
Yeah, like when I ran across the nest with an egg in it. I knew it was a bad idea, a mother protecting the nest is a cliche, but I did it anyway. Turns out it was a tallbird egg. D'oh! Had a good map that game too, a spot where to the SE was forest with plenty of trees, NW was more rocks than I think I had seen in the game to date, a short walk NE was grassland with beefalo. It was prefect, but I just had to have that egg I hadn't seen before.Comment
