So I have no problem lasting to first winter on constant basis before I voluntarily start a new game because I don't really do anything?

I still enjoy the hell out of game and it's about all I play, but i find myself just staying at base, building a few things and just standing by the fire at night.

I'm curious, once a spot is found near some foods and beefalo and a trek from rocks, how much more exploring does everyone else do? And how many "base camps" with a fire pit and farms do you build around the map?

        Don't Starve

Explore the world. I have yet to venture into a sinkhole and explore. Recently I just spotted the elephant dude, the pig king, and fought a tough walrus that nearly ended my game. I'm still trying to figure out what the "ring thing" and "crank thing" does, but I'm almost positive I'm gonna be using it on some object I find in the world to create something.

It's not just about getting by surviving each night as that gets pretty easy once you get the basics down. I still haven't even touched the magic stuff that you can build. No idea where to get gems from.

It also gets tougher as you go forward. Instead of being attacked by a couple hounds, you'll be greeted with at least 10.

I still haven't broken down and bought this game, but I enjoy reading about all of your experiences with it. Check this thread every day!

yeah, i think we need to start posting pictures of our "camps" (under a spoiler tag) so we can see how everybody is set up. I'll see if I can post mine tonight.. I think I'm on day 24 at the moment. My storage containers are full of jerky and rabbits. I am camped in a home-grown forest right near a rabbit haven. I just hope my gal doesn't get sick of eating rabbit as we try to survive winter.

What I've done the past two times or so is find the Beefalo herd and typically there is a "fort" already established somewhere in the area. I like to just make camp in there since it has walls up already and the beefalo provide wool and manure for farms. Rabbits are also typically close by.

I do same thing, I start out Day 1-5 getting everything setup for harvesting everything. Then this whole time I'm a nomad just traveling looking for the beefalos. When I find them, I do a large search around them for a big rabbit field. THEN I setup camp and start preparing for winter with farms and stock piling food & wood.

One thing I always try to shoot for before day 20 is a log suit and spear to fend off the first batch of hounds.

Does food stay longer in containers? How do you keep it from going bad? Rabbits are pretty easy since you can keep live ones forever.

Also, what is the other piece you need for the beefalo hat? It looks like a beefalo horn, but I haven't seen one drop of the 2-3 I've killed.

Where do you get the "nuggets" used for the drying rack and the fridge components?

Charcoal? Light a tree on fire and chop it down once the fire goes out. Be sure to not light a tree in the middle of a forest though.

Gears can be found by some clocktower creatures. There are a few laying on the ground or you can kill them to acquire some gears.

My 1st and only time starting a Forest fire was scary. I'd not been paying attention to the time when it went dark I panicked and just started a camp fire. Went from super dark to very bright in seconds lol. Next morning I realized I'd burned down every tree within about 25 paces in every direction.

How deadly or the clocktower creatures? I was hit once by one that shot a fireball and I ran for the kills.
