I've got all 4 things, but I can't remember where the friggin' door was! Should have put a sign or a trap by it. Smh.

Re: Don't Starve
If you've already located the door it does show up on your map. If not I believe the divining rod will lead the way.
Btw, want to talk about being thrown to the wolves (again), adventure mode is a pain.

Re: Don't Starve
I'll hafta look again. That map sometimes kinda just all runs together. May just build the diving rod then. I made a compass, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't do anything but take up an inventory space. Great, as if this game needs to get any harder. Lol!#LFC

Re: Don't Starve
Lol yea I believe the sole purpose of the compass it to always point North. Double check your map for the door, I know the divining rod helps you find the 4 "things" not sure about the actual door tho.

SpoilerStart off by gathering enough basics to make an axe, a fire and a few extra logs. Pre build your fire by creating it but not "placing" it. It will stay in your inventory til you're ready to use it and will be ready at a moments notice. 2 logs will will fuel the fire for the entire night. A few berries and carrots to cook on the fire, pick those as needed but grab a few in the area where you start as they're abundant. If your inventory starts getting full don't be afraid to drop stuff on the ground, cook and eat some and pick your stuff back up.
I get moving as quickly as possible, looking for rocks or beefalo as you need both to start your camp. If you find beefalo 1st just make a mental note of where it is, make sure its a decent herd, they will be your guardians come hound time. When you find rocks create a pickaxe and farm the crap out of rocks, flint and golden nuggets. You only NEED 7 nuggets to get going, but if the rocks are far from the beefalo just grab a full stack of 20 golden nuggets. I also usually go for 40-80 rocks depending how long its taking me. You'll want at least 40 but really the more the better bc you can just stash them and use them as you need later, and you will need them. If you have the space fill them up. Only mine the boulders as only they yield the golden nuggets.
From there find the beefalo field. Then I look for an area in the field that has a few rabbit holes close together and if possible close to the edge/ocean. I like using the ocean as a wall to back camp up against, but rabbits are most important, especially for surviving winter. You want your firepit to have 3-4 rabbit holes close and 5-6 (the more the better) total in close walking proximity. Set a trap directly on top of each hole and bang you have a constant influx of rabbits.
Build your science machine and alchemy machine right off the bat. Stash the extra mats that you don't need to always carry around your camp or make chests for them. From there you need to make your drying racks, crock pot, improved farms. Also instead of picking saplings, grass and berries build a shovel and dig them up and replant them close to your camp. Also plant some pinecone so you have evergreens close by as well. Don't forget a lightening rod as all your hard gardening work can vanish in a flash...
That should be a good start for you. Things will start to click and the game becomes very addicting
good luck! Anything else just ask.

Re: Don't Starve
And as mentioned earlier. A bird cage is a big help. Bacon and eggs will be a lifesaver for you in the Winter.

Re: Don't Starve
Which bird do you need to catch to produce eggs? I have 2 caged up, not sure what kind, but I only use them for dragonfruit seeds. I've never seen an egg other than from penguins and tallbirds.#LFC

Re: Don't Starve
Don't set your camp up too close to the beefalo, mating season is a pain.
As for the rabbit holes, if you don't have a good size right next to the base I like to create a pen (make sure no holes are in the pen) and trap the rabbits inside. That way you have a food source that never spoils. Just make sure to only enter at night as to not lose rabbits.
Also, is anybody else having trouble catching the boomerang?Last edited by Kaiser Wilhelm; 03-07-2014, 08:45 PM.Thanks to LBzrules: So these threads won't be forever lost.

Re: Don't Starve
Just started playing this today, had a number of quick games and a few of 8, 12, 13 days. I am currently at day 17 on my newest adventure and it is intense. I am trying to scout the whole map and just take what i need until i find a solid location to build, im just stocking up on berries and seeds and searching large areas until its all clear on the map setting up a fire pit in areas where i am considering building once i clear the whole map. Before this save i was trying to build too soon and had a decent set up but didnt have enough resources close to sustain and had to venture way out to find anything. The best i had it before this save was a stone wall "hut" with a zig zag entrance that helped me run away from some danger but wound up getting devoured just outside of the compound by hounds. On another i got too far out without food and starved.
The closest call in this current save was with hounds who were one bite from killing me til i lucked out and ran into some pigs that drew the hound off.
Im hooked.Comment

Also remember a great defense for the hounds areSpoilerbeefalo. They save your ***
If you have PC and steam, Don't Starve Together is an absolute blast. It's the only way to play the game once you try it. So much fun with friends.Last edited by Gerg04; 02-02-2015, 08:07 AM.Comment

Re: Don't Starve
I finally got the entire perimeter of the map and majority of the interior cleared, only took 31 days...of course a few of those were backtracking to stock up on berries, seeds and other small food items. Should finish clearing the two sections I have left of the interior next time I am on then will build a home base. Should I focus on building the stone walls or are the wooden walls enough? Definitely going to build near the beefalo and put up some pig huts around the place.
I accidently burnt a large section of forest near my home site, do those trees come back eventually or is it a total loss?Comment
