Anyone know when the current competitive season ends?

I'm not looking forward to the PTR patch going through to live. I agree that Soldier needed a nerf, and I like the Rein ult fix/nerf. I hate the Hanzo changes though. Just out of personal preference I hate the character, and now he's going to be a good bit better.

I like the Orisa change from the standpoint that it was needed, but I do not want to see this game turn into Barrier-Watch. Even now, a Rein/Orisa combo is very difficult to break through on certain choke points. I think it will make Orisa more playable at higher levels, but it's going to be very annoying at lower levels.

            Re: Overwatch

The salt in this game. It's so great.

Playing mystery heroes tonight with a couple friends. We get into this game against this guy Nihlium. We're on defense on Dorado. We had a very favorable team comp, like Bastion, Mercy, Orisa, etc...They never got the cart past the initial bridge. This Nihlium guy says in chat "bronze scrubs getting carried by Blizz rng". (I should note that my friends are in Bronze, I am a not)

Game 2: Nihlium is again on the other team, same map, and this time we're on offense. We are not doing good...we have 0 healers for the entire first point until it gets to overtime. They had Zen, Mercy, Orisa, Junkrat, Reaper, Symmetra. Then we get a single Lucio and steamroll them and kind of never look back after that. Again Nihlus chimes in with the "lucky you Bronze scrubs got carried".
I decide to check out this guy's profile assuming he must be a Seagull smurf account to be talking so much trash about low tier players. His high across 4 competitive seasons was 2597 (he ended that season below 2k), and his SR average was round high silver/low gold. So finally I just tell him, "you know, you'd think you'd hit a bit higher rank before you start talking about Bronze players".
lol if he was salty before, then he took it to a whole new level.

            Game 3:
Round 1 On Nepal - Villages. We both start out with pretty similar comps, almost perfectly balanced 2-2-2. We roll them at the first fight and they are never able to regroup we win 100-0. (just ignoring him at this point).
Round 2 On Nepal - Shrine. First team fight goes and they win fairly easily, and they hold it for another push or 2. Finally, we make a final push and capture it. From there we don't even let them get back through the choke point. Needless to say more trash talk, and then the game tried to put us against him a 4th time. So finally we just agree to leave. Then of course he sends me a whisper "Get F***** loser LUL" and quickly blocks me. I don't think he liked me telling him in that final game "git gud silver pleb"

Quite entertaining. It's kind of interesting. The vast majority of the really bad toxicity I have seen in this game has come from average to slightly below average players.

I keep wanting to play something else but then I have a great game and want to replicate it.

Interesting...I don't think of myself as a good Lucio player at all (I can't do all these jumps and staying high on the point) but I have like a 75% win rate this season with him in like 20 games played.

Lucio is one of those characters where you don't necessarily feel like you're playing as if you were a pro-tier Genji, but then the match ends and you realize how big of an impact you had.

Finally doing my placements for the season, and I DC'd for the first time ever. Sucks because we wont he first round easy and were half way through defending.

Did anyone do their placements at the end of the season?

I'm trying to figure out what caused me to place 600 points lower than my S3 finish. I'm wondering if this is because I waited so long to do placements and it somehow adjusted the ranking because of it, I went I think 6-4 in placements.

Another possibility is a bug in the system. I DC'd for the first time ever in this game in one of my placement matches. I was able to rejoin the game, DC'd again, then rejoined again and finished it (we obviously lost). It counted the game as 3 losses on my profile despite it only counting as 1 for my placement total. I'm wondering if those additional losses were used in the rank formula. I guess it could also have been a Disconnect penalty?

I was planning to just do my 10 placements and be done, but when it put me in silver I had to play a few to get to gold. It made my win % for the season look good though so there is that.

                          Re: Overwatch

I was much lower in my placement matches but that was at the start of the season...I started in Silver too (1900) and had to work my way up. I'm at 2600 now.

Next season, once I encounter a loss I think I'm going to stop until the next day because losing streaks seem to pile up on this game more than winning streaks.

                            Re: Overwatch

That sucks, but at least you made it up. I just assumed I'd place Plat again or at worst gold and then decide if I wanted to play a few games to try and hit Plat. I was pretty shocked for Silver.

A lot of Overwatch youtube channels give similar suggestions. After a couple of losses it's probably time to call it a night on comp.

Jeff Kaplan recently reported that they were looking at taking a more aggressive approach on toxicity/bad teamwork. I just kind of accept that toxicity is a part of any online game, and even to some degree it's healthy. Still, I'm glad to hear that they may be cracking down on some of it soon. For the most part I haven't had many issues aside from a few I've mentioned in this thread plus a few others (over 12 months with the game so the really bad ones aren't very common). I do hope we see more crack down of things like what happened in one of my placements the other day. I was Solo Q'ing, got placed with a 3stack and a 2stack. The 2stack refused to ever join team voice chat after multiple requests, and then picked Hanzo/Widow after we lost the first round (not to mention constantly berating the rest of us in the team text chat) with the clear intent to just throw.

On console at least, I think they need to make it where a group automatically joins team chat and they must manually click a button or trigger to go to group chat.

For that matter, I think each game they must make each user forceable remove themselves out of chat. It's so frustrating not to have players in chat...whether they speak or not, at least I can call out who to focus fire on.

I'd even take it a step further. If you're in competitive then you're in team chat period, with no options to remove yourself. Competitive is the "try-hard" mode, and if you're playing it you should be taking it seriously which means you should be on the voice chat if you have a mic. There may be other reasons that you don't want to be comms, but the game mechanics should force you to go out of your way to not participate. Like making you mute everyone in team if you don't want to hear them, and if you only want to talk with your friends then your only option is a 3rd party app like discord.
