I believe the laptop trade in has ended early based on what I read on another site.

Was there like a promotion flier that Best Buy sent out with the dates? Would like to trade my old one in just to get some extra money to spend at BB.

Ended early due to people abusing the system.

Not coming at you in an argumentative way at all, but how did people abuse the system? Did they just get a bigger response to the promotion than they anticipated?

From my understanding and the way I see it, BB allowed the abuse. The deal was supposed to be one trade in per customer. From reports, this limit wasn't enforced very much. The deal was supposed to be for laptops that turn on and boot up to the OS. This wasn't even checked at most places. Instead, just a price check with their trade in system and a scan of the Windows sticker on the bottom of laptop was all that was being done in most cases.

It's even happened where customers did most of the leg work themselves at home by registering the trade in and printing out a receipt/coupon at home to speed up facilitate the trade in store. Only to be rejected when they show up at BB with this guaranteed price quote generated from their system.

This falls to management failing to communicate exactly what was needed and ensure the promotion was properly handled. I worked for Best Buy while I was in college and there were countless promotions that were never communicated to everyone in the store, resulting in a lot of associates not knowing what the customer is talking about. Unfortunately, the customer now-a-days knows more about the products/services/promotions than the actual associates, which I feel is a contributing factor to the decline of the actual in store sales and the decline in actual customer service when you go in to buy something. I'm not saying this is the case in every store, but in most of the stores I have been in, this happens all too frequently.

I don't know...I'd hardly call the ignorance of employee's abusing the system. Especially as just stated above, I don't see the consumer being at fault for poor management.

I almost never read fine print on anything so I'd have taken in two laptops from the get go. But if someone said you can only trade one, that'd have been that, no qualms. But if I get credit for two, no questions asked, I don't see that as being my fault.

Seems like bestbuy puts up a promo and stops them early all of the time.

I promise their stuff is screwy man. They never stick with their own stuff.

Uh maybe because they were allowing it and their employees were not trained properly on the promo? That's how its screwy. This falls at Best Buys feet, not the customers, Best Buy is who is supposed to know their own promos.

Reminds me of the time Ace Frehleys (from Kiss) new CD was featured in their flyer with a bonus prize for like the first people to buy the CD at the store. I go in and ask an employee about it and he says he doesn't know who that is. I'm like, well that's fine, some folks don't know who he is...but here it is in the ad and he looks at it and says "well I don't know anything about it" and walks away without helping me.

Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous. I worked at Hills Department stores and the first thing I did each week was study and know the ad that began on Sunday.

This is one of many reasons people are just starting to shop online because so many of the stores employees either don't know, don't care or a combination of both.

Why was Best Buy accepting broken laptops? Seems they should've done their due diligence and tested the laptops to ensure they were in working order and able to be re-sold or whatever Best Buy planned to do with them.

Best Buy is at fault here, not the customer.

Not the first time they did something and got a response so they closed the promo down early.

Not sure why they bred to be defended here.

I was going to take mine today and lo and behold. No fault of my own which was a perfectly legit working laptop ready to go.

Same. Had mine ready to go in the car and was going to go after my sons basketball practice on Tuesday, but nope, let's stop a promo early because our employees weren't doing what they should have been.

I was going to take advantage of this but I was too late.

I don't blame Best Buy. I blame the animals trading in broken **** without moral compass or a lick of reservation trying to game the system. The entitlement is unreal. Best Buy did what they had to do to protect their business in the end. Smart on their part.
