I called my Best Buy the other day and they told me that the laptops have to be in working condition with everything included including the hard drive.

Are they actually turning them on when you bring them in? What is the transaction like?

Been to 2 different BB's and neither checked. Today I told the lady that I didn't even have the charger and she said it didn't matter. Just scanned the serial #'s and did her thing. In and out in 2 min. Worst they can do is say no.

Mine didn't turn either on. They go through the same thing you see on the website. Open the lid, flip it over, scan the back, done and done.

Had 2 in one transaction, took all of 5 minutes.

That's bs about Gateway because that's what I just traded in. They didn't even open mine up to see if it was cracked. I even had a key missing.

Yeah it really is. She said I don't think these have any trade-in value. Said the one has a crack and then said they don't even show up because they are old. They're only like 10-12 years old.

Mine was about 10 years plus. I didn't even have the charger and told the lady so and she said it didn't matter. I think some stores are either uninformed or doing what they want.

Not sure if time is a factor but I would possibly try another BB before the 15th. Hell I might even buy a few used ones off my local Craigslist for $20 or so and trade them in.

I'm going to call the store and ask to speak to a manager. I just went on the site and it said my trade-in value is $75. Obvious this girl didn't know what she was doing.

Just got off the phone with a manager. She is saying they won't accept Gateway because it isn't on their list of brands and that they are too old. She also said if anyone is getting gift cards straight up that the stores doing it are doing it incorrectly. Says the gift card is only if you are purchasing a Samsung Notebook. Said employee news has been saying stores all over are forging and stuff. Whatever. I call BS. Website doesn't list Gateway specifically but gives you an option for other brand.

My Best Buy has always been a joke with promotions like this.

I traded a Gateway no problem. They just have to choose"Other" in the system.

Their drop-down selections are identical to the website if you do it from home. They even said $30 for mine without the charger but at the end it applied the full promotion value of $75.

I'd just take what you have in and go through the motions. Lord knows most BB employee's are probably clueless when talking on the phone.

Also, there's an additional promotion when purchasing a certain Samsung laptop (forget the exact model). You get an additional $75 per laptop traded. So that's a $75 gift card + $75 off the purchase of the Samsung if you were to buy it.

Shouldn't have a problem, didn't even turn mine on they just look at the sticker for the OS.

Most hard drives are very accessible on the bottom of the laptop, just a couple screw's or a release. Google your make/model and you should find some videos on how to remove it.

This manager doesn't have the first clue about this promotion. It says it in black and white that you receive both a gift card for 75 and also you receive a coupon for 75 towards a Samsung notebook pro 9.
