I was going to take advantage of this but I was too late.

I don't blame Best Buy. I blame the animals trading in broken **** without moral compass or a lick of reservation trying to game the system. The entitlement is unreal. Best Buy did what they had to do to protect their business in the end. Smart on their part.

Eh, Best Buy should have known that going in. They should have followed their own rules to make sure the laptop worked. People are always going to take advantage.

This is like when MS cut the limit on OneDrive unlimited storage because people were uploading terabytes. It's like they probably shouldn't be doing it, but you definitely shouldn't have said unlimited storage if you didn't mean it.

If they followed their policy, tested and rejected the broken laptops, there wouldn't be an issue. You have to expect people to try to take it to the furthest extreme.

Yeah it's really dumb to blame the public for not following the rules that you set for a promotion. That is 100% on your employees for allowing it.

If they followed their policy, tested and rejected the broken laptops, there wouldn't be an issue. You have to expect people to try to take it to the furthest extreme.

They are at much at fault for accepting the bad computers and the person trading them in knowing the terms before heading to the counter. You can be mad at Best Buy for ending the promotion early but you can't not partially blame those trying to scam a buck from them at the same time.

For those who traded in working laptops and got $75 credit congrats. For those who traded in computers that didn't meet the terms of the offer thanks for ruining it for the rest of us.

Not the first time they did something and got a response so they closed the promo down early.

Not sure why they bred to be defended here.

I was going to take mine today and lo and behold. No fault of my own which was a perfectly legit working laptop ready to go.

I missed out on the deal by a few hours. By the time I got off work, they'd gotten the email earlier. I still traded my nearly ten year old Toshiba for $65. Hell I didn't want it. It gets hot after five minutes. Had to use cooling fan to keep it from cutting off while wiping. I'm sure that can be fixed though. Probably just need the inside blown out. I'd never done it.

I got $70 for a laptop a couple months ago that was an old Toshiba with a terrible battery. Still decent trade values to be had if they are the same as the used to be I guess

There was an option for "No power adapter/battery" that could be selected when trading in the laptop. How does selecting that, then trading in a laptop that doesn't power on equal scam?

Forget about local stores, managers and employees not knowing the terms; don't put specifics in fine print if you can't make your website match. It's not like the selection process on the trade-in website varied by store...not to mention the employees selected from the same menu. You almost can't even blame them.

This issue is on a much bigger level than ignorant employees. Least of which should fall on the consumer.

Yes because the idea the public won't do what you let them get away with isn't new. It is incumbent upon the employees of any type of promotion like this to validate what is being traded in.

And while there most certainly are people who will just attempt to outright rip off stores, the majority of bad trade-ins come from customers who just figure they will take something in and it's up to the store to determine if it's ok for them to take it.
