I found this on the internet

After I found the first car body for the Magnum Opus I went back to the garage/hideout. There Chumbucket tells you how to upgrade your vehicle etc. After you collect the parts for the harpoon you go into the upgrade menu. HERE I was able to access my Ripper car body. I'm using it now.

Was just getting ready to post this. Took a little bit before the Ripper was available

        Re: Mad Max

After almost 15 hours yesterday, im loving this game as I knew I would. Granted, I have a few nitpicks with the game but nothing major.

Storms are insane. Early in the game during a story mission, a sandstorm came in and a big piece of metal junk smacked me and knocked me off the platform I was on. Later on, a lightning storm came through and flung me around like nothing in and out of the car. Also, I was hit a few times by lightning. But I prevailed and still acquired all the motherloot.

To be perfectly honest, this game shouldn't get anything lower than a 7/10 in my opinion. You would really have to hate open world games, have no interest in the Mad Max universe or be too focused on that other game to give it anything less.

As I was expecting, the game will easily hit a 9/10 for me personally unless some major horrible garbage happens or something but I don't see that happening. On fun alone, Mad Max is a 10/10. :P

Totally agree! When I first learnt it was being made by the same guys behind Just Cause 2 I was pleased and a little concerned. Pleased because that game was visually gorgeous for its time and so packed full of content in an enormous open world but concerned because that series has a corny feel to it. The enemies were cartoon fare laughable goons and not to be taken seriously but more so the driving and handling of the vehicles was very arcade level stuff.

With Mad Max the game has a deliberate eerie atmosphere full of demented waste landers just like in the movies. The cornyness of just cause 2 is nowhere to be found. Mad Max is a far more serious game but it is filled with nutters because they are typical to the Mad Max IP.

There are also constant reference points to the movies. One thing that I find amusing from an Aussie point of view is the cans of dog food Max eats from called Dinky Di. They are ripped straight out of Mad Max 2 but they are pronounced Dinky Dye after an Aussie saying meaning 'everything is alright'. Chum Becket pronounces it as Dinky Dee which misses the Aussie slang meaning. So to tie it all up Mad Max the game is freaking Dinky Di!

The audio mix is pretty amazing. I love the sound of walking in the desert sand, the sound of the shotgun and explosions.

Loving the game, but wondering if anyone has run into this problem that I have. Digital version here, ps4. A couple of times certain sound effects have disappeared from the game. For example, once the car engine sound completely disappeared for the duration of my play time. Another team it was the noises made by NPCs attacking me. Both times if i exited the game completely and re-entered those noises were back, but until i did that it would not fix itself despite changing any audio setting. Very odd playing the game where your car sounds like a Prius lol.

Loving that there are a few open world games out this week, mad max among them.
Question though: how is the map variety?

Before i got the game I watched some reviews and wasn't impressed to learn that the whole game world was desert and wastelands. I was worried it would feel bland and become a chore to hang out in. Having played the game I am surprised at how incredibly good the game world is. They have very cleverly varied the landscape in both subtle and strong ways. You get a very good sense that the environment has become a harsh and cruel place. Mud pits, cliff faces, scattered and rusting debris littering the undulating terrain and lots of rolling sand just cannot be conveyed well enough in words to do it justice compared to the actual experience of playing in it.

Funnily, the seeming emptiness happens to work in its favour because there is no illusion of shops or buildings that are only scenery but cannot be interacted with. Pretty much anything that resembles a human outpost, dwelling, hub, fort, mining facility can be interacted with. This provides an honest game world with few tricks about it. There are still some invisible walls but not when it comes to places of habitation. You won't find a pretty shop front with windows and door that act as nothing more than fake facades. If you see a door or a gate most of the time the game is wanting you to go check what's behind it and normally requires you to smash the obstacle to bits before you can enter.

They have also included some interesting and odd stuff that help to tell a story about what the different areas used to be before the world feel into cataclysmic ruin. The inclusion of this eclectic mix of past life material also allows for interesting variations to the environment.

Probably the best thing about the game world is how faithfully and creatively it makes you feel tied into the Mad Max universe. The game is very much a mix of the movies 2,3&4 not in terms of story but in terms of setting. Whereby you get a visceral encounter with not too different elements of the source material and the game for me is all the more empowered by it.

You can be slowing down in the Magnum Opus to check something in a pile of shipping containers that catches your interest only for a pair of vehicles belonging to a hostile faction to come bearing down on you forcing vehicular conflict. It's in moments as innocuous and common as this where the game just clicks and it feels and looks very much like a pursuit in any of the movies and it's so cool to press the reverse camera button that frames the Magnum Opus and the gaining cars and think I've seen this in the movies! And the cars always look demented and psychotic in that kind of way that is evident in all of the films.

Game is just bloody bananas man.

                      Re: Mad Max

I am enjoying this game a lot. I'm a beast in this game. So far I haven't even done the 4th mission in the game(Drive to Dead Barrens) and I nearly completed the lower portion of the map. I made things a lot easier for myself progress wise this way.
The only thing I cannot do to clear each zone are the minefields. Guess once I move on in the story I can come back to clear them. The map starts dark pink and gets to light tan as you clear the zones.

                      A few tips for people:

                      1. You can have enemy cars in your inventory 1 of 2 ways from my guess. If you see enemy vehicles, try to pull the driver out, or use the harpoon, and take the car to your base. Or by doing Death Runs(my guess, as I haven't done 1 yet).

                      2. Grab the Buzzard Drop Kick. It makes doing the convey missions easy. Get in front of the convey and
                      Spoiler

The thing I didn't like the use of Griffa tokens. It makes you use your entire stash. You cant lets say use 5 of 10. Gotta use them all before you can confirm. Or just cancel out. I had about 30 the 1st time.

Over 35 hours into the game and I have completed "Jeet's" territory 100%. Going based on this, game may take me 150 hours to complete. LOL.

Story wise, I have only done five missions and am currently in the Gutgash territory. The only thing that I haven't tried at least once is the Death Run races but will next time I play which sadly won't be until Sunday due to work.

Mad Max is definitely the most underrated game this year. Out of all the games I have played this generation, Mad Max is the most fun that I have had out of them all.

The minefields have to be done using Chum's buggy since you need the dog to sniff them out. I did the last three of these in Jeet's territory last night after clearing out everything else. Makes it easier to do without enemy cars coming after me while im the buggy.

                          1. You're right about "collecting" cars.
                          2. I haven't tried that but to be honest, I mainly like using the Magnum Opus. Unless required, im not using any other car in the game.

Agree in regards to the Griffa tokens but it's minor. I'm almost done maxing Max, the Magnum Opus and my Legend. I should be very strong once I get to the other areas.

You'll be wasting your time trying to pick the armor off each car 1 by 1, just to get to the leader. Conveys add more cars and armor as you progress. The last one I faced was around 7 vehicles deep. I took the 7 car convey out less than 60 seconds..

A small thing that goes a long way with me is how well the looting is done. It's not overwhelming, it's just there and within its simplicity is its draw. I'll be driving past a little abandoned area and can't help but stop knowing there will be one, two, maybe three gear pieces to pick up. Once I'm done, the area tells me I'm clear (which I love btw), and then I'm on my way. No Riddler Puzzle bull****, no Assassin's Creed chasing, climbing, etc... just good old fashioned scavenging and moving on.

How much have I enjoyed the game so far? I'm at my in-laws lake house for a four day weekend of boating and kayaking, and I'm on OS posting this because I can't stop thinking about going home to play... #nerdalert
