I finally downed that gigantic son of a bitch.

Also, Bayek turning around in the saddle to fight on the butt end of his mount is awesome.

      Re: Assassin's Creed: Origins

I'm like 14 or so hours in, level 20 something. I'm playing this coming right off of The Witcher, which I played right after going through Syndicate.

I don't know how to feel about this game. It does some things very well. The graphics are incredible. The world is extremely impressive, from the way animals are to the people in the areas basically leading full lives independent of what you are doing. I just feel like... For this to be the 10th game in the series, I want a little more. Just feels like constant baby steps in a direction that I'm not even really sure of.

Coming off of Syndicate, my takeaway was that Assassins Creed as a whole is monotony perfected. It was the perfect series to just get lost in for a few hours, seeing historic sites and meeting historic people. The graphics were there, the city was alive, everything was in place. Jacob and Evie were cool characters, the only problem with Syndicate IMO was the main story...

So far I don't see a ton of improvement in that area but I'm not far enough to really judge. I hated the opening. I'm big on game openings (God of War 3 Poseidon battle ranking near the top of my all time gaming moments). I was amazed to see that they didn't open Last of Us style, letting us play out the mission where Bayek's son dies. They just drop you in the middle of nowhere and say go ahead.

I don't love or hate the combat changes, they're just meh to me. I really dislike seeing giant numbers pop up above my enemies heads in such a realistic world like it's an arcade game, but that's fairly minor. I am also not a fan of using the bumpers for combat. I expected to really dislike using Xenu, but he's been a pleasant surprise. Sending Bayek off to a way point and then switching to Xenu to scout the trail is a lot more fun than I imagined.

I still kinda want my ninja Assassins Creed, but I've mostly given up on it. I think at this point I'd be fine if they just buried the series and connected it directly to Watch Dogs so it could be brought to the present. Strange as it sounds, I just don't feel like the series has much of a soul anymore.

        Re: Assassin's Creed: Origins

Awesome to see this kind of post launch support:

Ubisoft announced Assassin's Creed Origins will receive an update this month adding a Horde mode, an increased difficulty setting, enemy scaling, and a few new quests for the open-world action-RPG.

A new event quest will be added pitting players against endless waves of enemies in the Cyrene arena. The quest, titled Here Comes a New Challenger, is recommended for players Level 32 or higher. The update will also introduce another new quest, which Ubisoft is leaving as a surprise, but it may involve a mount with feathers.

Nightmare mode will become available after the update, which will increase the difficulty of the game, making enemies more resilient and dangerous. Added by "popular request," Ubisoft is also adding enemy scaling. When this option is enabled, low-level enemies all across Egypt will have their levels increased to match the players.

I will definitely be enabling enemy scaling. Hate going back to an area and finding level 12 guys to fight when I’m in my 30s.

I mean it’s easier but I’m assuming the xp is also minimal when you are fighting guys 20 levels under you. As long as I keep my gear leveled guys right around my level are a breeze anyways.

                Re: Assassin's Creed: Origins

That update does nothing for me. I will be more interested in post game beaten stuff added. I never cared for horde mode in any game. Nor have I cared to beat a game on the hardest difficulty known to man either. Fighting the gods don't interest me either. I'm waiting for them to add stuff that continues on the story in the after math.

This is my main game at this point! The attention to detail re: Egypt has been magnificent. I like characters and the story.

Holy ****. That cleopatra extended part was brutal for somebody who just wants to explore. Only complaint so far. Can’t stand when games take you out of the world for an extend time like that.

                          Assassin's Creed: Origins

With Black Flag and Unity still in my "to play" library, is this game worth playing and skipping the other's?

I'm sure it does things better than the old games, but by how much? In need of a good couch game.

Would be playing on Xbox on my 1080p. Only saying because X1X on 4K is probably a no-brainer.

Edit: I'd be grabbing it used at $40 if that changes anyone's recommendation.

Black Flag will depend on how well you like the pirate aesthetics and naval gameplay that was introduced in AC3.

Personally I think it's the best, but it isn't without it's flaws particularly in the main narrative.

The only thing this game is missing that would make it the best is the double assassinations.

That would have messed up the story though. Double assassinations weren't a thing until what ? AC2 or AC3 ?
