Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)

I'm about halfway through Act II and while it's fun and I enjoy the game...it's definitely open world paint by numbers. Other than the gorgeous scenery and unique setting, everything here has been done before, and often better. There's nothing WRONG with that, as "open world" is a genre unto itself at this point, but it no longer holds the surprises and wow at exploration like it used to.

That being said, Horizon never held me and I've yet to play an Assassin's Creed game...but if they are like this then count me out.

So this is interesting and was not expecting.

I normally never play online and don't even have a psn+ but i may have to for this game and tony hawk 1-2 remake.

The presentation is definitely the game seller here and it really lifts up a lot of mundane or "normal" features.

I'm not exactly sure what the lure is for this game, but I don't want to stop playing. The presentation is fantastic and the world is absolutely gorgeous. Nothing else has really popped its head up above the rest yet.

The narrative around stealth is an interesting one. For now it is playing some type of role in how I approach bases, though I can see the "moral dilemma" being forgotten all things considered. Still, I have to give them a golf clap for it. Similar to Watch Dogs 2 and its bevy of non-lethal options its amazing how you can restrain a player without actually implementing anything other than "morals" or "feelings."

I think what makes the differences is that it's a simple story but it's told well through a likable protagonist and side characters. It's a beautiful game and there's a lot to explore but it's not an overwhelming size. Yeah it's not breaking all sorts of new ground gameplay or story wise but it doesn't have to and that's where a lot of other games fall short, sometimes keeping it simple is the best. I want to be a bad*** Samurai and live by a code, occasionally straying from said code and look good doing it and that's what the game delivers.

I find the simpler stories are almost always the best when its built around top notch gameplay, voice acting and world.

I have to admit I have already tried to slice and dice the horse several times by pressing Triangle to hop on.

Yeah breaking some of those old AC habits are hard. I’ve noticed when you do that the horse will be a little hesitant to come to you.

The voice acting to me is one of the best I’ve heard in a video game. From Jim to the Khan and all your buddies, it’s just incredibly believable.

The cinematic presentation for this game is fantastic and the cutscenes are great. Sony really upped the presentation game for all of their exclusives this gen.

Khan's performance is great even if the character isn't really given much detail yet (only in Act 1).

Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)

I'm having a blast playing this game and its on pace for a 9 out of 10 for me. I wanted this game to take up most of my time till the ps5 and its going to do that. I'm completely done with Act 1 and done a little bit of Act 2.

                        Major Positives
                        Gameplay
                        Simple Story
                        World is beautiful
                        Upgrade System
                        Side Characters / Voice Acting
I never want to turn it off (fun)
                        Mythic Tales / side quest

                        Minor Positives
                        Fast Travel system
                        Outfits
                        Playing as Samurai is cool
                        Throwing the knives
                        Trophies

                        Major Negatives
                        Game length is bloated

                        Minor Negatives
                        Uncharted jump system
                        I've got to many charms
                        Could use more mission variety
Wish you could change outfits quicker

If your doing all/most of the side stuff its a 40-50 hour game according to howlongtobeat.com. I think 5 or so hours easily could be shaved off that. I'm not at the point where its getting old now however I think I'll be there by the time Act 2 ends since I'm going for the platinum trophy.

I don't have the exact number of fox dens, bamboo, haiku etc. While they were fun/cool at first you could have easily cut those down and not missed much. It was fun following the fox at first, but now I've done that a lot and the reward I'm getting I wont ever use. You could cut out some of the basic side quest and bandit camp. This is a problem on just about every single open world game nowadays.

                              Oh OK. Thanks for explaining.

Those side tasks can get a bit annoying but on the harder levels there's some real reward to them. I do think there are too many charms. I'm already switching my outfit a lot based on the situation (Sakai/Ghost for combat, Traveller's gear for item hunting/exploration, Tadoryi for shooting arrows, etc..) but you can pretty much beat the game on Normal without really equipping yourself properly.

I absolutely loved the side stories though (Norio, Yuna, etc...). Really helps endear yourself to the supporting cast and makes the final Act incredible as it all comes together.

I kind of got board with the game and put it down. I was going all the side stuff in act 1 and I guess I got burnt out.
