Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)
Oh OK. Thanks for explaining.
Those side tasks can get a bit annoying but on the harder levels there's some real reward to them. I do think there are too many charms. I'm already switching my outfit a lot based on the situation (Sakai/Ghost for combat, Traveller's gear for item hunting/exploration, Tadoryi for shooting arrows, etc..) but you can pretty much beat the game on Normal without really equipping yourself properly.
I absolutely loved the side stories though (Norio, Yuna, etc...). Really helps endear yourself to the supporting cast and makes the final Act incredible as it all comes together.
I looked it up 18 hot springs, 16 bamboo strikes, 16 shrines, 8 lighthouses, 23 pillars of honor, 49 fox dens, 19 haiku, and 25 duels. You easily could have cut those down a good bit.
I'm having a amazing time with the game and I know I don't have to do those things. Its just the 1 major negative I have. Most gamers are programmed to do stuff that's on the map so having the bad side quest can water things down.Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)
I'm already noticing I'm not going to have any problems having an abundance of minor charms. Half of my current quests include that as a reward.
I'm really liking the size of the map/region so far in Act 1. I expect Act 2 to be somewhat bigger, but for now this is nearly perfect. Big enough to not feel cramped, but also close enough to traverse by foot if wanted.
How are you guys approaching stealth? Doing a standoff for each scenario/Mongol camp is a little...underwhelming? Which feels weird to admit, but just strolling into their camp and hollering at them is about the exact opposite of how I've played every damn game ever lol. Does the bow not count as a stealth kill? There's no internal monologues or scoldings about that, but I'm also to the point where I'm internally debating to Jin how stealth is NOT a dishonor to you or to the Mongols. Damn this game lol.
Anyway, I think I'm going to knock out the 9 quest for the traitor archer. For some reason I'm super interested even though the narrative is fairly basic. These characters are fantastic, though. I agree a lot of the praise should be given to the voice actors for bringing these characters to life, but so far they are written well. I'm also enjoying this layering of exposition rather than getting a character "background" dump in their introduction/first mission with Jin like a lot of games typically do.

My stealth is the same as it is in every game I get in to big if a hurry and quickly get spotted. So I then just take out my sword and kill everyone in plain sight.
You won't be able to knock out all 9 of the side quest you will have to wait till act 3 to finish them. I would recommend playing all of them in a row when you get to act 2 you can get about 4 more of them. I just finished part 7 of the one with the female understudy and older man and I can't wait to see how it ends.Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

Not a story spoiler but don't want to ruin this feature of the game... you've be warned!

Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)
Idk what happened but my standoff skills just fell off the face of earth when I got to Act III.
I usually go stealth with the ronin outfit equipped and then when the action kicks up I switch to Sakai Clan Armor.
I agree about the charms.... way too many of them.
I also use poison, smoke & sticky bombs, whatever.
No honor in my game!

Sucker Punch made inFamous and I would have loved a morality meter and gone rogue. Give me a groin punch button and I’m all set.
I encourage everyone to post videos of heel like acts on twitter under #heeloftsushima. It’s very rewarding.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)
So just finished... Well finished act 3 as I still have most of the optional quest remaining.
About the ending... Obviously spoilers ahead...
Do not pass go if you don't want spoilers...
SpoilerSo I went the honorable route probably on an l80/20 split. Knowing basic story patterns I knew they'd kill Taka once we got captured so figured that would be my catalyst for finally becoming "The Ghost". I had to become the hero Tsushima needed. So in my mind I was playing with the mindset of the Ghost being a necessity from there on out.
So fast forward to the decision to kill Shimura or walk away. I choose walk away figuring the scene would play out with Shimura eyes closed waiting for the killing blow but it never comes because Jin just walked away to leave him in shame. I immediately regretted that decision. Maybe I'm just judging the scene wrong but it came off a bit more cold and angry than I had anticipated. In my mind the Ghost was a necessary evil and I'm cool with being a traitor and I'm hurt that Shimura is so bound to the code he'd kill me but not exactly angry as I understand.
So now I'm contemplating going back and picking the other one. Normally I just go with whatever choice I made but this one bothers with me. I know it doesn't really change the post game stuff but it just doesn't sit well with how I thought of Jin."Listen son, you only have enough runs when you’re showering after a win."Comment

I just finished the game and got the Platinum. There are a lot of side missions to do for that but I always enjoyed my time.
The game overall is excellent and a lot of fun. Graphics are really good. If I break down each individual part of the game I don’t know if I would say anything is excellent but largely good to very good. The whole package makes it fun. The story telling isn’t nearly as good as Naughty Dog but it’s still a solid story. The “investigate” stuff wasn’t that well done and might as well have remained a cut scene. I liked the Archer side stuff the best plus you were rewarded with extra weapons.
I think the game really opens up when you start to get a lot of different weapons to kill. All the ghost and range weapons made it great. A good amount of boss fights throughout the map added to the challenge which was a bit off. As soon as you get a lot of stuff you get virtually invincible. When I entered Act 2 I bumped it up to Hard and then I couldn’t be so careless. By Act 3 it was probably too easy other than the big duels.
So this ended up being a very long, open world game with a good main narrative and a lot of side content. It had fun combat even if it was a bit simple (parry and attack). But with special moves and ghost weapons it ended up a lot of fun. I can understand why Johnny wasn’t in love with it as this is fairly standard Open World game stuff. I really liked AC Odyssey too although I would give the nod to Ghost. Better graphics, stronger story and combat was a better too.Comment

Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)
So since my last save prior to finishing was 3 hours old, I'll just embrace being The Ghost fully for the remainder. I went into the end game a little under leveled I think but managed it. When I realized how close I was to finishing the main story I just said screw it the side stuff will be there post game.
It's definitely one of my favorite single player experiences of the PS4. Could be a top 5 but definitely in my top 10. Its one of the few games that I want to try and platinum. I like the world enough to just find all the random bits and fill out the skill trees."Listen son, you only have enough runs when you’re showering after a win."Comment

Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)
Finished this last night, and while I really liked the ending, wished it had happened like 15-20 hours earlier (lack of a time counter is mildly annoying). Liberated all the regions, did all the sidequests, but couldn't bring myself to find the last shrines, foxes, etc.
My complaint remains it was bloated, too long, and shallow. Didn't even realize until the end that enemy difficulty was color coded...maybe an incentive for Kurosawa mode? Still, an utterly gorgeous game, but not one I'm looking to revisit. I have nothing against long games (Witcher 3 is the GOAT) but felt my time investment wasn't valued enough here.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)
I've already started getting that feeling and I'm still in region 1/Act One.
It is absolutely beautiful and everything it does it does well, but so far nothing has really made any impression on me like other great open world RPGs from this generation.
I think I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to progress and done running around the map doing random things. Outside of your player the world feels dead. RDR, The Witcher, Watch Dogs 2 and others make you and the playable character feel not only as part of the world, but you get the feeling **** still happens when your character isn't close. Ghosts feels like everything is explicitly for your character and the world feels empty and lifeless without him around.
I've gotten to the point where I'm beginning to abandon the stand-off because it makes no sense for any of medium/larger bases and honestly just doing sword melee combat gets old. Once you get down parry and the side-step normal enemies are ****ing cake. Even when they threaten to surround you there's ways to easily crowd control. I've yet to really feel pressured outside of the first hour or so.
I feel like this is the type of game where it is really well done and all of the things in are "good", but there's nothing that really pushes it through the cream and to the top for me.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)
I can't seem to want to pick back up the game. I started playing Apex again and haven't played anything else besides the 2K21 demo.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)
There's a few reasons it doesn't feel bloated or too long for me. Every open world game I get, first thing I do is check and make sure I can do side missions after the end of the story so the pressure of having to get everything done is non existent. Second it quickly became apparent that I could progress the story without having to do a vast majority of the side missions. Aside from a few quest I only did side stuff if it was along my way to main story missions. There are a bunch of villagers currently waiting for "The Ghost" to rid the island of the Mongol hoard I'll get to them eventually lol.
I can see how doing all the side stuff would make you overpowered though. That seems like a side effect of all the open world games making it seem like it was necessary to get stuff done before moving the story along.
I think the How Long to Beat website clocks the main story at a bit over 20 hours long which to me is a pretty good length IMO. Witcher 3 has a lot of side stuff but is so good and just epic that you want to just keep playing. AC Odyssey was beautiful to look at but ultimately I got bored with the story and the side missions.Last edited by jrnlgrn; 08-31-2020, 07:59 PM."Listen son, you only have enough runs when you’re showering after a win."Comment

Re: Ghost of Tsushima (PS4 Exclusive)
Finished up, last night. Man, what an emotional roller coaster of a game. It had it all. Made me laugh. Made me angry. Made me think someone must have been chopping onions. Just a really solid game and story. Hope we eventually get a sequel on the PS5. Well done, Sucker Punch!#LFC
