    Re: Battlefield V

    Welcome to Battlefield Royale?

No thanks. Perhaps that's an oversimplification, but this didn't appeal to me at all. I wouldn't care about them going off grid and making something like Bad Company, but then don't give it the "V" moniker.

Edit - I should clarify this is in response to the actual trailer. Maybe it'll look better with time. I'm somewhat cynical, though, about EA latching onto fads for profiteering. I understand it, I just wouldn't consider it Battlefield in a sense.

      Re: Battlefield V

I thought I was going to end up skipping BF5 and the new COD this year, but man, the changes they're making to this game sound incredible to me. I'm a little iffy on the "Squad Call-Ins" and maybe the fortification stuff, but for example, removing passive resupplies and healing is an awesome idea IMO and is a huge change to the dynamic.

I'm going to have to consider preordering this now.

lol that's like me saying, I don't understand why people play text based sims like OOTP. We all have different desires with our gaming time. For me I love the battle royale experience and I'll explain why that is.

Right before BR's became a "thing", DayZ was pretty big in the PC gaming scene and the stories that unfolded.
                Spoiler

You were living and surviving in this harsh land but the adrenaline rush moments were sporadic and random and this was heightened because death was permanent, you lost all gear you've worked so hard to acquire.

The combat in DayZ to put it lightly was a mess, it was clunky with hit detection problems, and when you combine those issues with perma death, it got very frustrating. So while the core of the DayZ player base such as myself loved the stories being developed, we also longed for a properly made version with slightly more action.

When the Battle Royale mod hit on ARMA 2, it was still functioning on the same engine DayZ was running on, so many of the same issues were present. By the time the mod was moved to ARMA 3, it really started to take shape as a hardcore survival/action game which incorporated many of those story type moments DayZ would supply.

but yet again, it was clunky but very fun!
                Spoiler

DayZ being stagnate for so long drove the same player base which loved DayZ towards the BR games, H1Z1 popped on scene, then PUBG with a more realistic and more refined engine than the mod, but it's still lacking the AAA polish Treyach or Dice could rightfully give the genre.

So short version, I love the minor "story" changes each round creates. I'm also very competitive, 99% of games I play are multiplayer, so the single winner style draws me in. Yet in the end, we are lacking a true triple A studio created BR game and my love for the battlefield series thought it was the perfect fit. Big maps, vehicles, cool weapons, gamey but realistic combat, and best of all tight polished controls & silky smooth engine. Sadly for me, luckily for you, Dice decided against it!

That's why I love AND want a BR game

As long as we get Conquest mode back I'm a happy camper. I loved playing that on Bad Company 2. Well until I'd get spawn camped by a dude in a helicopter.

Where are people getting Battlefield Battle Royale from? The only thing I've seen resembling a mode like that is the final stage of the Grand Operations, but it's still a team based mode that just lacks respawns, it isn't Battle Royale.

Q&A with the lead designer of DICE.

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dh4MHyozPyU" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Interesting quote at the 15 minute mark. The question was why isn't this BF 1.5 as a lot of folks will view this title as such and his quote was:

When we were setting up with what are we going to do with this game, we settled quite quickly: "We should push innovation broadly and let's do it in design...a lot." I want to push the second-to-second choice you can do.

Adding more abilities and capabilities to the soldier will just cater for those player moments when you can choose different things. Once you can sit down and play it for an extended amount of time, all of these changes is what will resonate and make this game different from previous titles.
It really feels like the design decision of this game is to allow multiple options for the player to do at any given time...less gimmicky and more gameplay designed almost. It sounds as though as it's all choices and decisions that the player chooses to do with either whether to win the battle NOW or survive and win the next engagement (think cost/benefit). It feels like it's a lot less centered about the ability or perks of the class/soldier you chose at spawn. An example is the attrition design (which I think is good, in theory) where a player doesn't have full health or ammo and must rely on teammates or scan the world/map to survive. Utilizing your team and specifically your squad sounds to be much more necessary, which is great as well.

I think once we play the game, it will definitely feel a lot different. To me, it almost feels like they took the best of Battlefield and took the best of Fortnite/PUBG to create BFV which, honestly, is what they needed to do. Going back to the design of BF4 or even BF1 (or BF 1.5 with improved gun mechanics) just wasn't going to cut it and given the success of the Battle Royale games, why not incorporate the best of that too? They HAD to make this game different from both previous BF titles and current shooters.

I'm looking forward to this...I don't know why but usually after seeing this trailer would have me triggered but it didn't. Maybe I'm just getting old lol It's different and I will definitely play it. I do love DICE's sound effects and to have it back to WW2....man I can't wait to hear it.

Anyway for you hardcore WW2 buffs out there there are two games that are coming out...both will have 50 vs 50 (I think) players. I hope BFV player count goes up instead of 64 players only....

You said something I feel as well. That's a trailer that normally would make me think WTF, but honestly, it's got me intrigued and hearing some youtubers give out the real details has me very excited. I don't know if it is where I literally just got back into playing BF1 after being put off when it launched, or what it is, but I am more excited for this than I normally would be. I'm not a huge fan of some of the cosmetic items it looks like we'll be able to customize, but all of the gameplay changes sound right up my alley. The war of attrition and every interaction being physical, both leading to a much slower pace are exactly what I wanted from the series. I felt Bad Company 2 had excellent pacing and after that with 3 and 4 they took the pace of the game and the importance of squads to positions I didn't really like. It is nice to see that gameplay wise they are somewhat going back to their roots in a way.

I was hoping for a gritty and somewhat accurate WW2 Battlefield.... definitely not this. I will keep an open mind till gameplay videos come out. However, for me, this trailer is a dumpster fire with it's Mad Max/steampunk/Braveheart aesthetic and wildly inaccurate historical representation of WW2. BF was never that historically accurate (for example all the automatic weapons in BF1) or sim (all BF's) but i honestly thought the trailer was at first a post apocalyptic world with older weaponry. At least BF1 gives a semblance of fighting in WW1. The katanas, full prosthetic arm, cricket mallets, British fighting with the Japanese at one point made me spend most of the trailer wondering WTF was going on. BUT..it is a trailer and I will hold out judgement. However, if this is what the actual game will be like...then I I guess I will play it like it's Fear and Loathing in Normandy. Hopefully, the experience of tripping balls in WW2 is at least fun.

Hell Let Loose is the other one I'm interested in Goffs. I like the idea of Post Scriptum I just hope its not to similar to Squad, its running on the same engine, I just hope they speed it up a tad bit. Hell Let Loose looks to be a good middle ground of realism and fun.
