The US used to have year round schools but most children didn't go to school making it poorly attended but yeah the heat and costs was a major factor.

To be fair in abunch of places though, doesn't it cost just as much if not more to heat the building as it would be to cool it down.

Not taking into consideration parents lives at all, a nice balance would be something like just July off, no March break, and just 4 day weeks every week. About 25 days off from August/March break to use up, and maybe 45 or so weeks total of school. Factor in PA Days and public holidays, you'd probably have 35 or so full 5 day weeks anyways. So you end up with 10 or so fewer days of school(those 35 weeks minus the 25 extra days gained).

As nice as it is to have 2 months off, how many people here honestly remembered what they learned last year by the start of next year? September ends up being wasted as first week or so is simply just review.

My schools never had AC either. Was horrible being there on hot days. Teachers turned lights off, opened windows, and brought out those giant circular metal fans.

The "ACTUAL" reason there's a summer break is because back in the day, farmers needed their kids to help work on the farm during the summer.

I always felt like the term, "year round school," was a bit of a misnomer tho. My experience with it was, yes school was open all year round, but kids were still getting their 2-3 month breaks. Just at different times throughout the year. I'm glad I only attended a school district using that for about 1 year. Having friends on different tracks was unfortunate.

That reason was debunked 3 years ago. Farmers plant in the spring and harvest in the fall.

Where did the concept of summer vacation originate? Despite a long-standing myth linking a summer break to the nation's "agrarian past," historians offer a different explanation.

Yeah I thought this as well, and was gonna post it. But hit Google and it proved otherwise. It didn't make sense for farmers to be active in the summer.

You know what really grinds my gears?

My parents just told me that school started when the NFL started and ended when the NHL season ended and summers were meant for kids to watch the Cubs on WGN during the day and the Braves on TBS at night.

lol, I used to think of it that way too which sucked at times. I look forward to start of NBA/NHL season, but it also means school will have to start for that to happen. But then I know once baseball season comes around, school will be ending soon.

My step-daughter has already started school. Actually started last Thursday.

Commercials for "The Nineties" documentary on CNN focusing almost exclusively on Friends, Shania Twain, Arsenio Hall, Seinfeld and Bill Clinton playing saxophone. Most of that doesn't make me nostalgic in the least lol.

It makes me nostalgic(not the parts you mentioned as much minus Friends/Seinfeld).

But that show has been a huge letdown. I get it's CNN, but this series focuses so much on news stories you'd hear on CNN vs things like talking about Friends/Seinfeld,the internet, console games,90s fashion, sports and things like that. Even their episode dedicated to TV in 90s, they skipped so many notable 90s shows(didn't even mention TGIF), mentioned Friends for like 40 seconds, and focused mostly on early 90s stuff.

Most of the stuff in general seems to be huge early 90s emphasis. You could tell most of the people working on this series were probably already adults in the 90s.

Sounds like you're looking for "I Love the 90s" and not, as you said, something done by CNN.

I just thought it'd be better based on the commercials they aired. Not false advertising since they did show what was in commercials, but all the clips used in the commercials were basically the only clips in the series about those specific topics.

I vividly remember watching that and the others on vacation at the beach.
