This might be off topic, but in high school, we got to tour the medium security prison in Raleigh as part of my Criminal Justice class.

The class had mostly seniors and most of the seniors were girls. I’ll never forget, walking past the men’s unit and seeing at least four guys making lewd gestures. One even tried to pull his pants down until a guard pulled him off the table.

It was then that I decided to never pursue a criminal career.

When I was in 3rd or 4th grade we took a field trip to the Cook County jail in Chicago. Classmates were saying hi to relatives. This was doing the 1980s. Even then Cook County jail was severely over crowded.

Lol, what kind of schools did you people go to......

A field trip at my school were things like going to a play, baseball game, amusement park, and even a field(technically a farm, but it's still a field), not a jail....

I grew up in Chicago. Field trip to the jail was part of Chicago's D.A.R.E program, meant to steer kids away from gangs and violence. Program been going on since the mid 1980s and hasn't worked in Chicago at all.

Other then that, in Chicago we went to the same places every year for field trips:

The Museum of Science and Industry

Brookfield Zoo

Dusable Museum

Lincoln Park Zoo

Shedd Aquarium

Shedd Aquarium is dope, I would've loved that as a field trip as a kid. We went to lame places like Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg.

It sounds like their school tricked them and instead of taking them on a real field-trip they took them to one of those prison boot camps for out of control teens like you see on Maury Povich.

Uh-uh, I do what I want!!!

I love Maury's unabashed commitment to lowest-common-denominator television. He finds 1-2 formulas that work, and just commits 100%. Bad kids getting yelled at = gold. DNA tests = triple platinum. Let's just cut out the fat and do those 2 things all day, every day.

I grew up in Baltimore but we never did the jail field trip. Seems like they were trying the positive approach by having career days and hosting different speakers to tell us all the good things we can do in life.

But your post on field trips reminded me of when I was dumb young. Me and some buddies had a major problem of staying in school. For an entire school year we probably left school early more than we stayed. A dumb thing we did was leave when the there was a field trip to the National Aquarium.

After skipping out on school wanna guess where we went? The National Aquarium.

Your school phoned it in man lol. They brought doctors from John Hopkins, lawyers, judges, DJs from 92 Q, athletes, and even scientists to speak to us. Didn't really do any good though. Its hard to teach science when the teacher tells the class to turn to page 93 and more than half the class says they don't have a page 93

Hell none of the national chained pizza places would even deliver to my neighborhood. The only pizza place that would was a hood joint.

My elementary school teachers had rock bottom expectation for us. First of all, they didn't think most of us would live to see the age of 16, let alone actually graduate high school. College was never talked about or even brought up. Teachers were like you can be a dock worker or truck unloader somewhere if you grow up.
