Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Canada got rid of pennies a decade ago. Now its just rounded if you're using cash.
If it's 50.03, you need to pay at least 5 cents.
If you pay 10 cents, your change of 7 cents now just wind's up rounding down and you get 5 cents back.Comment

Yeah, RiteAid has the KidsCents program if you’re a member there where you can have the change rounded up to nearest dollar and have it donated to children-focused charities.
I’d honestly probably opt in to this for all purchases if it was possible.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I usually pay by card or online, but yeah, you end up with a jar of change at the house. Most stores have a charity thing that lets you round up. I just do that. I'm not going to miss 40 cents.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
People who have no concept of situational awareness.
I just spent 3 weeks in Japan with my wife for our delayed honeymoon, and the number of times she impeded the main foot paths by stopping right in front of the very busy ticket gates at the metro stations to look at her ticket or something like that. It's like she was wrapped in her own world and didn't see the dozens to literally hundreds of people that she just blocked where if she took 6 steps to the side then she wouldn't be in anyone's way and we could look at the map as needed.
Not to only pick on her lol, those examples are just top of mind as it was the most stressful part of our recent trip. I'll also add that this also includes people who stand in the middle of the aisle in a store, walk slowly in the middle of a busy parking lot, abruptly stopping in the middle of the airport in the middle of heavy foot traffic to give someone a hug (recent example), etc...there are a lot of things that people do where they either are somehow unaware or simply don't care that they are impeding many others around them and in basically all such cases it would only take a very minor action on their part (like taking a step to the left) to not cause a complete breakdown in foot traffic.
Also, intense PDA. I'm not talking about a tight hug or even a quick kiss. This was also on my recent trip. Another tourist couple in line in front of us at this attraction. We were waiting on the elevator and this couple was having a full on makeout session with audible lip smacking and a lot of heavy groping. Similar to the above, it was like they were in their own world.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Related to this, I hate when people act like something that isn't a stop sign is a stop sign (or vice versa).
They'll be trying to turn right on a red light (or coming out from a different street) and acting like cars driving through their own light (or going straight down that main road) should stop, slow down and/or leave room for them to turn. You're at a stop sign, not me.
Or, when you are at a stop sign, people just go right through regardless. Bikes mainly, but you always see someone who tries to sneak behind the car infront of them who does have the right of way, but last I checked, you're not tethered to that car, you need to stop after they go, not driving on their bumper go to through while others stopped for them.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I know I've talked about "people spoiling things" in this thread before, but I have to post about it again because I really just don't get others' mindsets...
I'm at school prepping for the new year I gotta teach, and to help make time fly better, I thought: "Welp, maybe I should put on that Giants-A's game I didn't get to watch yesterday! Should make the time past a lot more smoothly." A custodian walks in to empty the trash, and says: "What game ya got on?" I wanted to ignore him because I feared the worst, but to be friendly I was like: "Oh, well this was a game that I didn't get to see yesterday and didn't hear about so I want to watch today." He sees the teams and goes: "Oh, Giants?" Then decides to not only state the outcome, but get very specific about certain details!
I smiled and went on about my way, but wow ****ing wow. I don't want to be the "Don't say anything if you saw it!" person, especially if it seems out of place if the guy doesn't watch the sport much less this particular outcome. But of course, I probably should have because he of course went on to spoil it.
What I think may be a worse gear grinder, now that I think about it, is when they try and justify it and think they're doing us a favor by spoiling it, saying something like: "I'll save you the heartbreak." That's not what he said or anything, but in thinking back with other people spoiling it that's not exactly what I cared about. Or when people think they're not spoiling it by saying that it was a nailbiter but not saying the outcome or what the score was. It's like when you say the movie has a surprise twist ending... well, now it doesn't.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
First world problem....
Going on vacation and I'm looking around at different local restaurants to try.
Websites, menus, you name it, basically non existent or not updated since 2018.
Sure, just walk in and see what they have and for how much, but in this day and age if you don't even utilize the internet in some form for your business, you're making a big mistake.
How hard is it to simply take a photo of your menu and that's literally all you need to upload to your website, google page and so on. You don't need to have online ordering be a thing. But just let people know what you have and how much it costs. That's one of your only jobs.
Some places will have a pic of their menu, but it's the most zoomed out blurry thing ever. Or their only google pics are just pics of the owners smiling infront of the store, a random professional photo of a single dish with no name/caption or something and that's it. That does nobody any favours.
I flat out don't even bother going to a place if I don't know their menu ahead of time. As much as I don't always want to do it, I wind up just going to some big chain simply because I know their menu and prices.Last edited by Majingir; 08-12-2023, 11:46 AM.Comment
