I'm timing my walk up to the store, usually slowing down and letting people go ahead of me, then I get inside and politely wait for people to grab a cart, then I have to wait again for them to wipe it down when I just want to get in the damn store, buy and few things and leave. I can use the exit side, but my luck sucks there, too. A whole crew of families will be coming through and I have to go back to the entrance side, just to find more people wiping and blocking

My other walmart grinder, and idunno if this is everywhere or just local, but we have random salespeople standing near the exit waiting for people on their way out to accost them about some sales crap. This drives me insane. I'll see them standing waiting for someone to walk by and try to sell whatever it is they're selling and I'll stop and wait for someone else to walk by, trail them to the other side, and the salespeople will get them instead.

My other strategy was to quickly walk by and say "no thank you" but they're trained to have the saddest puppy faces if you reject them, so I tried pretending to angrily interact with my phone. It doesn't stop them, they'll throw a hand out in the air to distract you and get your attention, and then it's on. No! I don't want this! Leave me alone!

I have the same experience at my Walmart. I tell them I'm not in charge of unauthorized expenses, only my better half can make any financial decision and that I'm fortunate enough to be allowed out on my own to even purchase gum.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

I honestly don't understand people who still go inside stores. I've been inside a Walmart once in the last 8 years or so, and that was because I had to take someone else.

I've been inside a grocery store once in the last 6 years, and that was because I had to buy a coffee pot as mine quit working when I was leaving to pick up my curbside grocery order.

I can't relate to these gear grinders centering around going inside a store.

I order everything I can from the devil (Amazon) and get the rest curbside. **** going inside stores.

Anything that costs more, takes more time, or is not particular to my needs is more of an inconvenience to me than the hassle of personal grocery/retail shopping.

In grocery stores, I want to pick out my meat, my vegetables, my eggs, read labels, look at expiration/packing dates, and handle my items with care. I think of it like shopping for a new hat: not every 7 1/4" size cap will fit the same or have the same logo print, bill curve, or stitching. You have to try them and see which one works for you and gives you most peace of mind (knowing it's better than the other ones you tried on), otherwise you wait days for something that might not be good/best, only to have to play the exchange game afterward.

In fact, it actually behooved me that people did not mind waiting days for a Netflix DVD rental to arrive, and returning discs awaiting their next exchange. I be like: "There's a Blockbuster/Redbox down the street. I win."

I go into Walmart for food and I dislike the idea of even just one more person handling my food than is absolutely necessary.
Plus my Walmart has a Subway so I go there for that too.

Outside of obvious stuff that requires you seeing it in person to pick out the best/freshest kind, if I could have everything I want from a grocery store delivered at the same cost of actually going there then I'd do it, but if you're paying a per order or monthly subscription fee for a service, and that service might not even get 100% of the items you wanted, you're better off just going yourself unless you really don't have any sort of free time at all or it's just too hard to go to/from a grocery store.

I definitely use Amazon a lot more than going to anywhere like a Walmart. Even Walmart I might go at most once every few months and that's only for stuff I couldn't order online/had to pay extra to get it delivered.

Going to Subway and finding out halfway thru making my sub I find out they're out of cucumbers.
No, I'm sorry, I can't, I won't, I'm not eating a sub without cucumbers. Long story short the homeless neighborhood dog ate good tonight. Turkey, roast beef. Meanwhile I'm eating left over chili. I still had it better than the stray. Poor animal. Imagine, eating turkey and roast beef with no cucumbers.

I'm honestly not sure how serious you're being with this. Giving a sandwich to a stray do just because you didn't get one topping seems a bit drastic. You could've just taken it home and added your own cucumber if you had it. I've never put cucumber on a sandwich btw. Also, you shouldn't give dogs turkey as it is bad for them, though the dog I had growing up (Newfoundland) ate a whole bunch of leftover thanksgiving turkey my mom had left on the washer when we got home from Thankgiving dinner at my aunt and uncle's and it didn't seem to bother him.

Finally, I also had a gear grinder at Subway this past weekend; they were out of Dr Pepper. But at least they had root beer this time unlike a couple trips ago when they were out of both Dr Pepper and Root Beer and those are the only 2 kinds of pop I care to drink.

I'm absolutely serious. I've never pretended to be a rational guy. I would have went with meatball marinara if I had known they were out of cucumbers. Skinless turkey is fine for dogs. I would never give a dog turkey with skin. And rootbeer is underated as a soft drink. I've never met a rootbeer I didn't like. Even Barq's, as it is not a true and traditional rootbeer,

This sounds kinda whiny probably but I have used WM grocery pickup a good bit over the years and some of the problems I've experienced are:

                          - Saying the product is out of stock but it's actually not.
                          - Picking out packs of meat that are half of what I had on the list.
                          - Leaving items off.
                          - Giving me someone else's groceries.
                          - Requesting that they don't use plastic bags and then them doing it anyways and giving me 500 bags because they put 1 packet of seasoning in it's own bag.

I also don't like that there have been times where they put the hold on my card for the value of the order when It's picked up then a week later it's refunded and pending again to my bank account. I'm assuming because of weighted item adjustments? Either way it's happened several times and I'm not a fan of it.

I'm kind of the opposite though in that I couldn't imagine never going into a grocery store. I like picking out my own cuts of meat and produce. For ex: they are giving you the greenest bananas on the stand. I've tried putting something like spare ribs on an order and getting a rack that I don't like. I also think the human interaction is good for you. It sounds silly but we are too isolated as a society and no one knows how to communicate anymore. I will build my list and stuff ahead of time and then breeze through and grab what I need so a lot of the thinking is already done.

The most annoying thing about trying to shop in a Walmart now is never being able to get around because of the people filling pickup orders

EDIT: I just want to add that I think it's good if the pros outweigh the cons. I used grocery pickup a lot more when my kids were little but I get up a lot earlier than I used to and that is half the battle with grocery shopping.

I'm a big expiration date checker. I'm a single individual so my food needs to last longer. Let the big families get stuff close to the expiration and plow throw it easily. I reach to the back and find bread expiring two weeks later than bread in the front, that's for me

I'm also a hypocrite because I'll buy the stuff off the clearance "about to expire" rack and gobble that down as fast as I can before it goes bad, while the foods I've stocked up on eventually go bad anyway because I'm constantly trying to find more deals

I don't experience any of the problems that you all describe on any regular basis with my grocery store (I've never done curbside at Walmart for anything).

I get my groceries from H-E-B (only in Texas and Mexico). If I have any problems, like a missing or close-to-expiration item, a couple of clicks in their app, and it is refunded - no questions asked.

I get my groceries every Sunday morning, generally at 7 a.m., and there is no hassle or extended wait at that time.

Yes, the cost is a little higher (about 25 cents per item) but their in-store coupons are in the app and I always save more than the extra charges and I would never use paper coupons so for me it's actually less expensive.

Even if it were more expensive, it is well worth it to me to not waste 1-2 hours of my life every week in a store. My free time is far more valuable to me than a couple of dollars an hour.

My personality type is INTJ, so I don't look at going to the store as a social interaction but rather as a nuisance. I get plenty of social interaction, in other ways, to keep me well-balanced.

I'm not so impatient that I can't wait a day or two for something to be delivered from Amazon. It probably helps that I re-order things before I run out so as not to have my life controlled by necessity and my lack of planning.

In short, it sounds like I'm lucky to have such a fantastic grocery chain at my disposal. However, if I ever move somewhere with stores that don't know how to do curbside right, I'll still rely on Amazon for almost everything else. Life is too short to waste so much of it shopping, at least to me.
