You're just generalizing/typecasting a group of people.

Not all cops are evil, nor are all cops out to screw the general public.

Please let me know why I'm anti-police. If you're trying to suggest that I or anyone that I know are criminals then you couldn't be further from the truth but I guess if you don't agree with unnecessary beatings/killings or certain people being allowed to break the law then you must be a criminal. And just so you know, one of my uncles is an officer.

I've seen many cops turn on their lights on a busy road just to get through traffic and then turn their lights off once they are through.

We don't go lights and sirens to every call as it is a danger to us and depending on the call, it may tip them off that we are coming. We turn the lights and sirens on at intersections so that we can get through safely and many times we get called off shortly after clearing those intersections as enough police are on the scene and do not need any more cars. Unless you have a police radio on and you know our car number, then you may not know the situation.

What are you talking about, I know an officer that gave himself a ticket for breaking the law. Beat that! Now tell me how many of you would have done that cause I highly doubt you would.

I'll straight out tell you I will not write another cop or firefighter...never.

You expect me to turn around and stop a guy who has saved my life, and that I trust with my life, and write him or his wife a ticket? It's the same reason I would never write a military solider. Go join the forces, go to Iraq, and get in a few firefights. Then come back home, join the police, and go work patrol 4 days a week in the dark of the night with only your partner to count on. The you'll learn real quick why King Henry V said, "we few, we happy few, we band of brothers." The bond created is a strong one...I would lay down my life for my fellow officers. And you expect me to write one of them? I'm sorry I just can't.

I see where you're coming from, and somewhat understand...I just think it's f'ed up that cops won't get tickets for going 100 or get a DUI because they're a cop. Is it ok the next time they think they're above the law and end up killing someone?

Can you explain why I should follow the law when a certain subsection of the population isn't required to? Just wondering...I've heard of cops weaving all over 4 lanes of a highway drunk off their asses (off duty) and JUST getting a ride home, not arrested. That's bull, IMO. Being a cop doesn't put you above the law, again IMO.

People aren't machines. They have emotions, and they act on them. When you see someone you care about, are you honestly going to do something to hurt them?

Ex(1): Your a police officer. Your pull your mother over for going 82mph in a 65mph zone. Are you going to,

a) give her no ticket
b) give her a speeding ticket worth $80
c) give her a reckless driving ticket worth double the speeding ticket.

Ex(2): You find out your son/daughter is on drugs. He/she is also growing marijuana in your basement. Do you,

a) call the police
b) tell him/her to get rid of the stash

Most people will let things slide. It's not BS (well it is, but I understand why they do it)...it's human nature.

Edit: I say this mostly for small things like speeding tickets. If you find out a fellow officer is running some huge illegal drug operation, you better turn them in. If it's something minor (speeding ticket), I am all for letting a fellow officer off with a "warning."

Yes it's BS that they get to break the law simply because of their profession. I have things I have to do but if I'm caught going 20 over the speed limit I'm not going to get a break. 5-10 maybe but getting a ticket for going way over the speed limit isn't something to complain about, whether you're a cop or not.

See this is a generalization once again. Without going into details, I have seen other officers arrested for some of those things you have listed above. We have what is called internal affairs. If you think that every police officer is not required to do his civil duty then you are grossly mistaken as our jobs, way of life, is always on the line. Do not assume that we do not do our job based on one or two incidents in certain parts of the country. This thread should be shutdown as it is an attack on police when it is only an issue for only a select few. As with any job, you have your good and you have your bad. Do not forget the bottom line of what we do..........."we protect and serve". I'm done reading here as this thread should be called "anti-police".
