Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
I'll typically tip on a buffet if they are serving drinks and still coming by from time to time and check. Some people want their server right up their *** the entire time in order to feel like they had good service.
Just come around once every now and then to check on drinks and I'll be happy and I'll still tip just the same. I don't like trying to have a conversation on a dinner date and constantly being interrupted.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
You tipped what??
I tell ya, I'm an incredibly cheap bastard. I was in Vegas this weekend where my flight and hotel was paid for. I was at the JW Marriott and my reservation included a free breakfast buffet. The place was quaint, and service was nice. They removed the $20+ fee and there was a line for gratuity. I penciled in $5.00.
The way I saw it, it was 25% of my bill, and even then it was swiped clean, so they should be lucky they got that.
Yeah, I'm not making many friends in high places here haha. Maybe that's why I didn't get the same waitress the next time. Then again, it's a buffet so they really only served me my drinks and asked how my food was.Charger Fan Born and Raised!

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
I tip based on the service I get. I don't believe in tipping based on a percentage of the bill. My waitress is not buying the ingrediants and cooking my meal. She is bringing the plates and cups out. What is on those plates and in those cups makes no difference to her job. I once had absolutely horrible service, waitress never asked if we wanted more drinks, forgot to put in our appetizer order, after our entrees came out we never saw her again, had to search her out to get the bill. I tipped her exactly $1.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
The one buffet I go to the wait staff does just as much work, if not more. Since I make 3-4 trips that is 3-4 plates that magically disappear when I am up and refilling. Which is much more than the one plate I get brought at a normal restaurant and the 1-2 refills I might get. I used to be a pretty cheap tipper, but have gotten better now that I have more disposable income.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
If I go out I just give like 15-20%. I don't really care about the service. I haven't had any bad experiences that made me want to stiff a server so I haven't.
I do get annoyed when I order a take-out order and they have a tip line though...the sushi place I love does that. I tip like $3 still...I'm a sucker and the reason they likely have that tip line.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
Yeah, same here. I admit the system does not seem ideal (employers underpaying staffers - sub minimum wage - and relying upon the customer to make up the difference) but in most cases, that does in fact seem to be the way it is. As such, I don't really believe in expecting to be absolutely pampered just for a hard working member of the wait staff to possibly earn more than the $3 bucks per hour they're originally due. If I get my food without waiting two hours, I'm probably in good shape. I figure I come across a lot of folks everyday who make more money for meeting less demands, so I'm not big on going the "I'm withholding money because you did not totally please me" route.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
If they don't make at least minimum wage in tips the restaurant has to make up for the rest of it right? So it's not like someone might go home with $10 of pay for 5 hours of work if they don't get any tips.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
In my opinion it makes no sense to tip... If you are good at making sure Im alright without being a nuisance and are very nice, sure thing you are getting a tip. But arent most tips just put into a jar and split between everyone anyway?Comment
