Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
1. I was not aware of the waiters being allowed to be paid BELOW minimum wage. That's bleak. Take my topic, and just assume that everyone's at least getting minimum wage for the sake of a discussion.
TJ, I don't want everyone to get paid the same. If someone does a crappy job serving, they've earned their tip [or lack there of]. I did say I was 100% against it, but if someone does an exceptional job I have no qualms giving them a little extra.
HustlinOwl, what does having the ability to wash my car have anything to do with anything. I don't have to eat out either.. But if I did, I could literally walk back to their kitchen and fetch my own plate of food, get my own drinks etc. I could make my own food at home.. I don't get that point.
The bottom line is, for us non-ballers and struggling college students [me], every dollar is very valuable. So penciling in a tip isn't for me.. that's what I'm getting at. I'm coming in with the expectation not to tip.. but if you go above and beyond then I honestly would throw a couple bones at you.
If you don't want to tip, don't go to a place that serves you food. Eat at McDonalds or Burger King. If waiters were paid standard wages, the restaurants would have to charge more the food probably a $1 or $2 per plate. So think about that before you go out to eat, if you don't have enough to cover a tip, don't eat there.
I think it supplies good incentive for good service, if restaurants paid servers a straight salary regardless of service level, good luck getting a re-fill.
The other thing is, if you plan on taking out a girl, good luck with the rest of the date after you stiff waiter/ress. You'll look cheap and tacky.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

As long as you're not a regular at a specific location, I really doubt it'll come back to haunt me. Plus factor in that you'd have to have incredible bad luck to go into the location and get the same waiter/waitress again.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
I try to tip about 20% everytime I take the family out to eat whether the service was bad or not. I can't explain why, I just feel it's proper. I guess I look at it like they have bills to pay also.
It would pretty much take them to throw my food in my face for them to get a sh***y tip.
P.S. You never know how their day is going. I don't mean to stereotype, but these folks probably aren't driving around in Bentleys, if you catch my drift. I look at it like if I can help get their kids a little extra "lunch money", it's worth it. My wife thinks this is sexy of me and we then go home and have wild, passionate, jungle sex.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
I worked as a waiter for a little bit, and there's nothing better then getting a nice tip. Especially with some of the people you have to deal with. Ask some waiters or waitresses about their stories.
I made $3 an hour, my girlfriend makes less, around $2.50, which is the standard. Basically tips are our income because the wages are ****ty. Leave 15%, or more, please. Don't be a jerk.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
I tip all the time at restaurants unless the service is just abysmal (happened once).Blind to this impending fate

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
LOL. Because like I said, you never know how their day is going. I know that doesn't excuse their behavior, but seriously, I never really had a problem.
The worst I ever got was they hardly came by the table(maybe they have alot on their mind) or they were kind of rude. Ehh.
I mean if they were over the top ignorant, well then, yeah, I might give only 10%.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
If someone is that bad why not just ask to talk with a manager and be asked to move into another section? Simply not tipping them is not showing them that they are horrible or are doing a bad job. Might make them think that you are cheapComment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
EDIT - With more thought, I don't think they do this for the upper deck sections. I think the ushers just look at the ticket and send you on your way. Since my fiance's family has season tickets for Steelers games, we get the same treatment in our seats every time (100 level). No one goes to Pirate games so we always get this treatment when we sit right down by the field.Comment

Wow. I thought this was the norm. I guess I've been spoiled by PNC Park and Heinz Field. At both places the ushers will take you to your seat and wipe them off for you.
