Ok. But in your honest opinion. Do you or any of your co-workers give special attention to some customers as opposed to others based on their "looks" and who'd you think have the potential to give a better tip?

if you dont want to tip, then dont go to that type of restaurant.

If you do go to that type of restaurant knowing that you are not going to tip...dont make the waiter/waitress jump through hoops serving your *** if you are going to stiff them, or you are an *** ****

You leave Kobe outta this! I would never tip those dudes in the bathroom.

Naw but really I don't know if you got a chance to see my other posts, but I WILL tip if I see it fit. I worded my OP wrong, I simply go into a tipping situation with the mindset that I'm NOT tipping. The possibility is there though.

Anyway Fist was worrying about my women and when we go out.. that was funny to me. I see where everyone's coming from, definitely.

              From my experience, no.

Why lose potential money by not paying attention to someone because of how they look?

The best way to get good service? Be friendly and they will (unless they are having a terrible day, which happens - they are humans) be friendly back to you. Don't make everything you ask for sound like a command, just ask nicely.

Really, just be nice, be courteous and your waiter/waitress will be nice to you. Do not, under any circumstance, tell them "You are only going to get X-amount, at most. Depending on what you do, it will go down." You'll get even worse service than you would have otherwise, trust me.

As for my own beliefs, after working in a restaurant and also having my sister work in waitressing, I will always tip well. As far as delivery people, it depends on how much I pay, honestly. I usually just round up to the next closest 5 dollar amount and let them keep the change (unless it is, say, a 24 or 34 dollar bill, in which case I'll give them thirty or fourty, respectively, and take 3 dollars back).

Being fair those people are doing much more work for you than the server is. I'm just curious how consistent people are with this.

For me if the person did a really good job I will tip them or if I just don't feel like carrying around loose change on me. One of our local pizza places that specializes in takeout has one, the only time they get tipped is when it's spare change. Why? Because it is family operated in every aspect, everyone knows this, yet they beg for tips like a common panhandler.

I may drop my change in the jar if I pay cash and if I pay ATM and they have a spot at the bottom for a tip, I may add a buck or two, but it just depends on how complicated my order was, how much I spent and how I feel.

The difference to me is these people are at least making minimum wage and usually a little more.

Servers, except for California, do not. Typically they are making less than $3.00 or so an hour and need that tip to at least get them back up to minimum wage.

Also, I'm not convinced at all that these people work as hard, let alone harder than servers. These guys are usually standing behind a counter doing the same thing over and over. I mean think of Subway and how much do. One person opens the break and puts the meat on, they pass it ot the next person who puts the veggies and dressing on and then wrap it up and pass it to the person who rings it up. Half the time you ask for a little may or mustard and they flood your sandwhich with it. Servers usually have multiple tables, take your order, bring your food, keep your drinks filled, clear your dishes and at least are personable and knowlegable about the menu.

I do find it kind of kind funny, but also irritating that you see these tip jars everywhere now. I'm not going to tip someone for getting me a bottled water or putting a bagel in a bag for me.

Same with me. If it is something that I do ordinarily and takes no effort, I'm not going to tip someone for it. 99.9% of the time I go out and take a leak, I wash and dry my own hands, but .1% of the time you're going to put someone in there who just hands me a paper towl and that is supposed to cost me a buck or two...no way....though when I was in Mexico, the guy was providing my buddy with free ciggerettes, so in that case, I could see why he tipped them.

To be perfectly honest, yes. It happens all the time.

It mainly happens because of past experiences. Is it right? No, but it still happens.

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping

I always give 20% unless they screw something up and don't fix it quickly. Even if they don't bring water or something boneheaded like that, as long as they make it right in a reasonable amount of time, it never affects their tip. I tend to like fairly hands-off service where they're not constantly filling up your water and asking if you need stuff... seems like I always have a mouthful when those talkative servers wanna check up on me..

As far as delivery, drivers for pizza places (chains anyway) get a solid hourly wage as well as gas compensation, so I tend to tip them less than the family-owned Chinese place (the owner is usually the guy doing the deliveries). But I go with the same 20% or more rule basically -- but I don't leave tips of less than $3 for food because it seems sort of insulting on anything more than $5.

I leave $1 per trip to the bar (more if they're making like 5 drinks.. it's usually just me and whoever's with me) or the same 20% if it's a tab thing. If they make me a kick-*** drink, it gets upped.

Good point. So if I eat at a place where the meal cost me $90 b ucks I should tip them more then the place where my meal cost $30? Not me...

If anyone knows the fast food chain Sonic and know what I'm talking about, do you tip them? I never know if I should or not. Or if they are even expecting one.

The only people that I really do not feel like tipping are the guys in the bathroom at clubs.

They give you a paper towel and squirt soap in your hands. I really DO NOT want to tip them at all. But I do it anyway. I figure its a nice deed and whats a dollar anyway.

And the thought always pops into my mind that the guy could really be God trying to judge my character... LOL

I don't tip at Sonic, but my grandmother does.

I don't put change or anything in those jars it's stupid. I hardly ever drink but if I do and at a bar I am not tipping them either. Wow you made me a drink, it's your F'ing job.

I was with my girlfriend and her friend at a bar once and she was ordereing a drink. The server asked after "so what do you got for me" basically beging for a tip? My girlfriends friend leaves her some money. So we then get our drink and she asks us the same thing, we tell her nothing and walk off.

It's one thing to get tips but to ask for them? GTFO!

I think everyone uses sterotypes in their life and I'm sure servers are no different. I'm sure sometimes they are right on and other times, it may hurt them and of course that is their fault when it happens.

I don't think most can't help looking at a table full of professionaly dressed people and believe that if they do a good job, they will be taken care of with a nice tip. And vice versa, if you see a table full of loud and obnoxious highschool kids, you can't help but fear that at most you're going to get is the change from everyones bill. Sometimes, the professionaly are going to stiff you and those high school kids may all be servers themselves and take care of you.

My college roomate had a theory that he called the "Lemmegetta" theory. Anyone who ordered their meal by saying "Lemmegetta (Let me get a)...cheeseburger or whatever...was going to be a crappy tipper....said he was never wrong with this theory.

and for the people who say if you can't afford to tip at least X amount don't go out to eat. How about this, if they can't afford to not get a tip they do a good job or find a new one.
