Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
that's the thing though, most servers are also non-ballers and/or college students. I know it's been said before but servers are paid a small amount and make most of their money from tips. A lot of people are trying to support themselves through school and when people like you don't tip it's very hard.
I've worked in the food industry before and let me tell you this: If you don't tip and are a repeat customer, expect to get ****ty service and ****ty food the next time at a place at the very least. You can use your imagination for the worst.
Penciling in a tip isn't for you? I hope you enjoy that bagel that was sitting on the floor by the trash all night or the chicken that was undercooked.
So if California does indeed pay servers minimum wage, I don't feel like a prick at all if I choose not to tip. If they didn't make min wage, I'd feel pretty ****ty not tipping.
And to everyone who swears like my food is tainted..
As I mentioned, there's a ton of places to eat out here in a ton of different cities with a ton of people. I'll take my chances with my outlook on tipping. It's not as if I live in a small town where there's like three eateries and everyone knows each other's names etc.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
Yeah, and keep in mind that you not tipping the waiter because something went wrong with the food is basically shooting the messenger. If they took your order wrong or something then that's one thing, but if the kitchen didn't cook your steak right, you shouldn't punish the wait staff.
There's a lot of things that can go wrong with an order that get pinned on the server just because they're the point-of-contact. Everything from the bar not pouring drinks fast enough to not having enough plates washed can make food take longer to come out or come out wrong.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
It makes absolutely zero logical sense to tip people, when all they are doing is.....doing their job. Waitresses and waiters apply for the job of waiting tables, why do they feel they are entitled to extra pay? If they knew they needed more than what they were being payed on base salary, they should find a new job.
The only thing I can compare tipping to is earning commission, and in the case of commissions, the employer is paying you the bonus...not the customer. It's bogus to have to pay for your meal (especially with increased food prices), and then fork over another portion of your earnings to support the chick/dude who brought you food and took your order.
Why do you not tip the cook who actually cooked your meal?
Why do you not tip the bussboy who cleans off the table, so you aren't sitting in slop?
Why do you not tip the dishwasher who makes sure you aren't eating with dirty forks?
Why do you not tip the firemen whom save your house from burning down?
Why do you not tip Janitors at your place of work, school?
Why do you not tip teachers for teaching you?
Each and every one of those examples includes people doing their jobs. What makes them different than waiters/waitresses? Why should I tip someone for doing the job they signed up for? The idea of tipping is just moronic in my opinion. With that said, I still tip, but only because I would prefer not to have spit in my burger the next time I eat out.Last edited by Double Eights; 05-08-2008, 06:37 PM.Comment

It's just a way to show some extra appreciation for good service, people.

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
I don't get this line of thinking. I go into an eatery with the idea that I'm not going to tip. It's all dependent on the service. If they do their job, then they'll probably get compensated, if they don't then they get nothing extra. Don't see how anyone can disagree with this.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
Yeah I'm not a charity. If you do an exceptional job, I will probably give you dobule the tax. We're all in the rat race down here in So Cal, I don't mind hurting someone's feelings if they don't perform adequetely.

If you were one of my friends I'd refuse to eat anywhere with you where servers were involved.Lux y VeritasComment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
I tip very well unless the services calls for the change from the dollar amount i.e. bill's 11.60 they get a .40 tip. You would be amazed how appreciative some servers are to know they did a good enough job to warrant a tip.
Think of it this way if you really need those extra 3 or 4 dollars you would tip your server should you be eating out in the first place??????There are 3 types of people in the world those who understand math and those who don't.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
Are you serious Brandon? People aren't perfect man. To answer you question, I go into eateries with no intentions of tipping. If the server does a nice job, then I'll throw em a few bones.
nobody's saying you've got to give away money but the reason servers are allowed to be paid less than national and state law minimum wage is because of the expected tips. I've got a lot of friends who are or were at some point servers and not one of them was ever paid more minimum wage or higher without tips.
hey man, you're not only one that lives in a big area. People remember things and people talk. Unless you got a different restaurant each and every time you dine, you run the risk of being recognized as the cheap guy who doesn't tip. You think you're not going to get recognized but trust me, it'll happen sooner or later. And when it does, pray that all you get is an upset stomach.
If you were one of my friends I'd refuse to eat anywhere with you where servers were involved.
That's ok that you wouldn't eat with me.Comment
