Good post, Born.. agree completely. This kind of stuff just undermines the entire justice system and exacerbates issues of mistrust (whether warranted or not) that the public has with the police, especially minorities. If one restrained man can be gunned down in a crowd of people, it adds a lot of unnecessary fear and consternation on the part of both the public and the police. BART cops are probably looking over their shoulders because there are a lot of REALLY pissed-off people roaming around with a bone to pick with them, and they might be even more hair-trigger the next time they make an arrest. The entire situation just sucks, and this is another reason that I think that quasi-cops like these guys shouldn't even be allowed to carry guns.

Re: Man shot in the back by cops, while on the ground
No one was debating that cops do more good than bad so thats besides the point. The majority of people in this thread bashed that particular cop....not the entire profession. I wasnt confused by your sarcasm...I just didnt think it spoke to the point the majority of people in this thread.
For better or for worse, this man's actions don't speak for the entire police force. Like any profession, there are any number of cops that fall beyond and beneath the call of duty. This conversation is about this incident, this cop.

when i was younger they tried to stop us from train hopping and we would throw stuff at them and call them flashlight cops.
it wasnt until they started being concerned for theier saftey due to 'gangs' that the different cities started allowing them to carry firearms. (Oakland, Richmond)
Some units actually have k9 and semi auto weapons.#SimnationComment

Just an FYI. From the BART website;
Qualifications and training for BART police officers exceed the guidelines of the state's Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, which certifies all California peace officers.Originally posted by Alexis de TocquevilleThe America Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.Comment

"far exceeds" what does that mean?
and in what area do they far exceed. Gun use? Gang violence? Narcotics? Hostile situations?
They are police men, nothing more nothing less#SimnationComment

Ha, the fact that they get the same training as the other CA cops makes this even worse... I'd feel better if they did turn out to be glorified mall cops with guns. Jeez...Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Agreed. A lack of training would have at least offered some type of reason for the incident.Originally posted by Alexis de TocquevilleThe America Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.Comment

Witnesses say the officer said "Oh My God" right after the shooting. What is a Bart officer? They not regular cops?My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Man shot in the back by cops, while on the ground
They are cops that Bart hired. They are sworn in and go to the Academy. Yeah this is really big here right now. To me it looks like he got distracted and though he had his taser. I don't know. There were a lot of people on the wall while they were trying to secured the area. I think it was accident. I feel bad for the kid's family. He is a 2 year old too.Comment

Re: Man shot in the back by cops, while on the ground
BART I'm going to guess is "Bay Area Rapid Transportation"?
So they are the Subway Police?
I'm asking, because I don't live in the area, so I don't know. They have to go through the state Peace Officer Training Academy, just like city cops, correct?Last edited by ChubbyBanana; 01-07-2009, 08:21 PM.Comment

Bart has it own police. They are mostly cops that are hired by them.Comment

Its a sad and unfortunate situation. I would like to hear the officers side of the story before I condemn him though. I get what you are saying cebby, and you are right. However in this kind of case its a person who is supposed to serve and protect. Not a thug. That is why a lot of people want to hear the cops side before the jury of public opinion sentences him to hell.My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment

There was some on the wall. That weren't cuff. That was apart of the fight on Bart that started all this.Comment

With 3 people you don't even need cuffs. I could get 3 13 year olds and they could successfully restrain that guyMy latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment
