Smuttynose is up there for me. Pumking and Dogfish head's pumpkin are also good. There's one more I had but the name escapes me. I'll have to tell you in about a month when it's on the shelves again. Flying Dog has one too but I'm still undecided on that one. I'm not a fan of too many pumpkin beers myself.

Was just given these as a gift. I've had Stone IPA before, but haven't heard of the others.

Went to hangout with one of my friends at a place called Goodfriends Beer Garden & Hamburger shack.

They had these two on tap:

                Peticolas Great Scot!

What beer would you guys recommend for a noob? Just to start me off on something and go from there. I've never had any type of beer past the Miller Lite's and Bud's and Corona's of the world. Would definitely like to start taste testing some good ones to see what I like, but I don't have the slightest clue on what to choose. I looked around for a little bit last weekend, but ended up just buying some rum because I couldn't decide on a beer. And the weird *** names of a lot of them don't help. lol

What type of alcoholic drinks do you usually go for?

It probably won't help much. Rum and coke is my go to drink. I don't really have a big variety of drinks that I like. I usually just go for drinks that taste good but have a nice kick to it. For beer I generally choose Corona, but I don't drink beer that much.

I've just been reading this thread lately and seeing all these types of beers and names and am genuinely interested in trying them out. The problem is I have no idea what the hell to choose!

Is there any type of brand or taste of beer that most people like? If so I'll give that a go.

I'm definitely not an expert like most of the fine gentleman of this thread, but I think a honey lager is a good place to start. I have a bad feeling this opinion will be met with utter vitriol, or maybe I'm paranoid.

note: I understand the guys in this thread have experienced beer palates. I'm just suggesting a potential starting point

Before I developed a taste for beer I was a bourbon/rum and coke guy. But even back then I thought dark beers such as Guinness looked incredible. After my first taste I fell in love with stouts. Maybe that would be more up your alley for a start.

You just need to dabble in the different types and see what you like. Try a Guiness to see if you'll like stouts, get a widely available IPA like Sierra Nevada to see if you like IPA's. If you want something lighter like a wheat beer, try Hoegaarden or Sierra Nevada Kellerweis. There's really no way to tell until you try them.

One of the better ways is to find a bar/brewery that offers paddlers/samplers. They normally have 5 or 6 4 oz. glasses and you can try a variety of styles to see what you like.
