Glad to hear you have a new dog!

We also rescued us a new dog several weeks after our dog passed. Both my wife and I have caught ourselves calling her Autumn, even though she is Polly. I have to agree that it's not something you should be too upset with yourself about and your dog is unlikely to have noticed.

Ahh yes, this thread. I still remember how incredibly sad I felt when I saw my little girl lying motionless on the floor. I have gotten over the pain since then and it has been mostly happy memories since then. As you guys know, I have a new little multeese named Sophie and she has been terrific thus far.

Ennepetal, I am glad you have found happiness in your life. Have fun with your new love.

Sorry to do a 4 month old bump, i didn't want to start a new thread, but my dog just died tonight, and it is probably the hardest thing i've had to go through in my life...i really dont know how you did it Alex, because I'm fortunate enough to have 2 other dogs already, so it's helping me a bit.

She passed away in my arms on the way to the vet, and now, she's buried in our backyard. She was only 8 years old, January 2, 2001 - November 9, 2009.

Sorry to hear bro. It probably is better she went that way. I took my dog to the vet and they had to put her to sleep. She looked just like Alex's dog. It is was tough. This was over 14 years ago. But I still mess Holly. Got her when I was in 6 grade. I am 38 now, and she died 14 years ago, so she was old. But it is still hard and having to put her to sleep and to make that decision was very hard. My mom could not do, so I made that call. Once again hang in there and just know she is not in pain anymore.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I had a Newfoundland who died at the age of 12 1/2 (very old for a Newf) He'd had stuff going on for a couple years, though we never could figure out what, and had lost a good bit of weight, but never seemed to be in any pain or distress until he just passed during the night one night. It is hard and my sister took it particularly hard since she found him that morning. Our chocolate lab was also acting kind of weird for a few days afterwards, though that's not really saying much since she's always been kind of weird.

It's going to be the saddest day on earth when I update you all about my guinea pig dying.

                    Re: My dog just died.

Reading this thread gets me thinking. First off, sorry for all your losses. I know how it feels. I was 12 when I found out my favorite dog in the Philippines died at the age of 4-5 years because of worms. Sucked then, and it still stings now since all I have is a couple of photos of that white dog with orange/brown spots. One with me walking him and the other carrying him when he was a pup (when I was 8 I think).

As much as I don't want to think it, I know sooner or later my cat will be going in a few years. I don't know his specific age because the date they have on his records is an estimate. Based on that, he's around 10 years old, but according the vets he's healthier than the average cat his age, so either we've been taking care of him well or he's younger than what is recorded.

It's going to be painful, because he's basically the younger brother I never had. Talkative, loves to play (especially hide-and-seek, I always like to test his memory), and what not. Sleeps on the bed to, tucking himself under the blanket and resting his head on the pillow.

My family also two Yorkies, both I think two years. They're not the brightest pair of dogs, but still, they're awesome to play with.

Edit: I just went through this thread again and that one picture of the Maltese, the smalller yorkie looks almost like that dog (obviously different hair color). She's so sweet and really just likes sitting on people's laps, while the other one, the bigger one, loves to play and run around. Whenever I play soccer with her (kick around one of her toys, either let her retrieve or have her chase me around), she is so proud when she gets the ball or the toy.

Edit #2: Also, I don't mean to leave this out. Whenever I start playing the piano, my cat runs from wherever he is downstairs to where the piano is, and either sits on the couch or on the swivel chair near the piano. Every time I play, he does that and listens.

Yeah it is a part of life "death" It sucks, but some day the pets we love will be gone. It does not get any easier, but you just try to go on and be strong. Or cat ran away. We moved to a new house and so I open up the garage door and Ruthie took off running down the street. I never saw the cat again. She has been gone for 2 years now. My 7 year old still talks about his cat. And it is not easy telling him Ruthie is OK. That was a cool cat too. And I am a dog person, but this cat got me big time.

Sorry to hear you guys' losses too

Without her, everything feels weird, like something is missing, every time I sit down in my chair to get on the computer, she would jump and sit right next to me, but now, it just feels weird, having that empty space in my chair.

My family has had many other dogs before, but this was the first dog I was actually able to say was mine. Sometimes, when I sit in my room away from the dogs, it just doesn't feel real, I still can't believe it had happened. She never had any symptoms besides fatigue, but I thought it was just because of her old age . I still believe she was too young though. For the first 7 years of her life, she was the only dog living in our house, so I felt bad whenever I left her alone at home, especially when I went on long vacations. But in the past year, we got 2 more dogs, so hopefully they spiced the last year of her life up whenever I was gone.

1-2 months ago, my cousin's dog passed away, and one day, she came up to me while I was next to Didi on our chair and she told me to play with Didi everyday, and cherish her everyday, because one day...she might be gone. And I have to thank her for that, because I took her word for it, and hopefully I made Didi's last few months as happy as possible.

Sorry to hear about it. I've had 2 family dogs die in my lifetime. They went up in the woods to be alone during their final hour. Couldn't imagine if it happened in the house. Only time will make things more bearable.
