Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Just made my first smoothie. It was unbelievable.

1 cup frozen fruit (strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, rasberries)
1 cup skim milk
1 cup grape juice lite
4 ice cubes
1 tsp Splenda

I'm not gonna use ice from now on, but it was damn good.

Ice adds texture to it. If the ice is grinded up it really adds to it. If you make them in the summer, I bet you will use ice.

Leave Splenda alone man. That stuff is the devil Stinger.

I use splenda myself, my doctor said it's the best to use for artificial sweetener because its base is sucralose which is a natural based sugar, unlike equal and sweet n' low which uses aspartame, which from all i've read really is terrible.

I don't know about the ice, it just seemed like it watered it down a little. My boy told me to use fat free yogurt to make it thicker. Should I just keep using ice?

btw, I love Splenda. I love diet sodas as well. I love a lot of stuff people say is bad for you. It seems like whatever you eat is bad for you by someone out there. Fried foods are bad, okay. Eat more diet foods. Well, diet foods are bad for you because of what's in them. Screw all that. If you listened to everyone (and the weird guy in those vids that DC lives by ) then you wouldn't be able to put anything in your body at all because it's all bad for you.

I agree any diet you go on anything you eat someone is going to say it's bad for you. I'm not saying that guy in the video doesn't know what hes talking about but if you listened to everyone then no diet would be good for you, no food would be good for you. Just do what is best for you. Everyone is different. What is so great about this thread is how everyone has different meals they do, workout's, etc and we can try these things to see if they work.

I know I haven't posted much in this thread but I'm right here with you guys trying to lose weight. Currently at 165 and trying to get to 150.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Sting, I know what you mean about "_____ is bad for you". I hear you 100%. We aren't trying to be perfect here. I appreciate all tips but I really am the type of person who likes to be 100% perfect and I just don't want to get to the point where everything that goes into my body is analyzed like that.

I will say this, I drink diet soda too, but not much, about 1 or 2 a week, usually on Saturday when I don't have to worry about the cafeine keeping me up. I've heard if you drink diet soda to try to drink RC as it uses sucralose instead of aspartame. I will have to check that out.

The only thing that worries me about soda is that I heard it can make you have a craving for sweet foods due to the brain thinking it's getting something sweet but then when it figures out you've fooled it, then it really does want something sweet. That doesn't worry me too much since I don't like sweet foods like pastries, cakes, donuts, etc. But I worry for someone who may struggle with that. I also wonder if it's true or not.

There is really nothing I hate more in real life than meeting up with someone else who is into this stuff and having them point out every little thing they can find wrong with what you do, like if you drink regular cola they would say "too much sugar" and then diet cola they'd say "oh that has aspartame" and on and on. Now don't get me wrong, here on a message board it doesn't really bother me, I'm talking in real life. The kind of guy (or gal) who when you are done talking with them are convinced the only safe thing to eat is scrubbed organic fruit and purified water. Yeah highly annoying.

I try to think of it like this Sting, you and I and the folks in this thread probably eat healthier than 98% of America. Why stress so much on the 2% there? I mean, always room for improvement to a certain extent. But we can't become OCD about this stuff either. And believe me, I already have some OCD about this stuff as it is, LOL.

Good post, Odogg.

Here is what I had for lunch.

Salmon Burger- 100 calories
Arnold Thin Buns- 80 calories
1 Slice Swiss Cheese- 110 calories

Low Sugar Ketchup and horsey sauce- 50 calories

1 apple- 100 calories

440 calories for lunch.

Also, before lunch, had a strawberry smoothie.

1 Cup Greek Yougurt- 170 calories.
1/2 cup millk 1%- 55 calories.
1/2 cup strawberries- 70 calories

295 calories. I didn't want to add in my 1 scoop of protein powder as that would have added 120 more calories.

Need to have dinner and go workout.

Add the 300 calories for breakfast and it comes to 1035 calories. Need about 400 more calories for dinner then off to the gym.

A cup of frozen fruit..is that not enough natural sugar there?

I think I'd be ok with it not having a sugar flavor.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Great post there Odogg. It's hard because if you take an serious interest in health and fitness and you are doing something that is working people tend to become an "expert" on how they do things and why it is best. The problem is that there are a multitude of ways to loose fat, get fitter / healthier etc and not everyone works best for every person. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to lose weight imo it's really just a matter of what works best for you and fits best with your lifestyle.

I love me a smoothie and I find freezing the fruit (particularly banana's) helps make the smoothie thicker and creamier. My post workout shake is pretty simple: 1 cup of skim, 1 cup ice cold water, 4/5 ice cubes, 1 frozen banana and a scoop and a 1/2 of ON chocolate protein powder all blended together. It honestly tastes like a milkshake to me and i love it and it really fills me up.

My weight hasn't dropped much this week (only down a lb) but i am down another belt size (that makes 4 belt sizes smaller since i started) so all is good. I seriously need to buy some more good work slacks because my current ones are too big for me now but i figure i'm not done losing weight yet so i'll wait until i hit my goal before getting them.

Diet for me today is:

B'fast:
Wholegrain cereal
skim milk
low fat yogurt

Lunch
2 slices of wholegrain bread
some lean pork
some dijon mustard
1 slice of low fat cheese

Dinner
1 medium steak (fat removed and given to the dog)
1 potato
mixed steamed vege's.

I'm not sure if i'll get time to workout today but i'll try and squeeze some cardio in after bub goes to bed around 7 tonight before dinner.
