Whats up OS runners? I decided I wanted to try and do a 5k on January 1st 2013. Now I know that's nothing to most of you guys but this time last year I was roughly 300 pound but have gone to 229 and I'm thinking by that time I will be 200. I always wanted to run a marathon but was always doubtful because of my weight but I think its time to cross this off my bucket list.
I haven't jogged at all this year because I get pretty bad shin splints and I just recently got over a bad case of plantar fasciitis earlier this year on both of my feet. I was told that maybe I should work on my form to help prevent shin splints and I have inserts for my shoes to support my arches.
I was hoping if someone could lend some advice how I should start training for it. Should I start on the treadmill or start running outside? How many miles should I shoot for at first and how I should gradually move up the distance?
