Re: OS Running Thread
Got my first run of 2014 in finally yesterday (had a bad sinus infection), and knocked out a solid 4.5 miles.
I've got a new pair of shoes, too. Picked up some Nike Air Pegasus+ 30 (part of my Christmas bonus) and used them for the first time yesterday. Felt a little lighter than my Brooks, but yet had good cushion and absorbed impact well.
My goal this year is to run a half-marathon. I've got a few training programs that should work well with my schedule.Currently Playing:

Re: OS Running Thread
I started back running about 4 months ago to get in a shape and lose some weight. I ran cross country in high school and was routinely running in the low 20s for 5ks, but that was 20 years ago. I can t believe I used to run that fast. Now I go out and I think I'm running and my pace is like 10 min/mile. Just now getting back into it, it's not easy.

Former XC runner here, too. I definitely got burned out by that experience, though. Had a four-time state champion as a teammate and his dad was the coach, so our training runs were brutal. I was so glad to be done my senior year, I went a good 6-7 years without running a mile.Currently Playing:

Re: OS Running Thread
Question for the group:
The last two times I've gone out for a run, the side of my left foot (just underneath the ankle) has been incredibly sore. The only thing I can deduce is that it must be the new shoes (Nike Air Pegasus 30) causing my foot to get placed in an uncomfortable spot. The weird thing, though, is my right foot is just fine. I don't feel like my stride has changed at all, so don't think that is an issue.
Any suggestions, clues as to what's causing the pain in my left foot?Currently Playing:

Re: OS Running Thread
Figured I'd post in here, as I've decided to take up running. Running is kind of my mortal enemy, but I've come to terms that to accomplish the athletic goals I wish to accomplish, it's the best route to take.
I leave for Jamaica in the morning, and I'm going to be starting off when I get there, on the beach, which I think will be pretty fun and set a positive association with running. My plan right now is to gradually increase my limits. I'm going to keep track of my times, and every day, I'm going to jog/run (just not walk at all) for as long as I can. Two minutes or ten minutes. I'll aim to improve gradually, even a second per day is something.
Any thoughts or advice to a newbie from experienced runners? Look forward to hearing it."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: OS Running Thread
I know a lot of you guys in here are more road race marathon/half-marathon types, but I got some news from the track to keep this thread afloat.
I'm a college freshman and I had some moderate success in high school so I'm on scholarship and every. Yesterday I raced at a pretty cool meet, it started a little later so it was under the lights and all that good stuff and the weather was absolutely perfect. I decided to race the 1500m and the 800m, I've always been a 400m/800m guy so stepping up to the 1500 in college is a natural progession. The 1500 was up first and being as inexperienced with that race as I am I just kind of sat in the pack and tried to let my speed do the work at the end. The plan worked pretty well and I ran a 4:02 which translates to about a 4:17 or so mile so I was VERY happy with that and I think I found a new race to experiment with. The 800 went a little differently for me. Since I was pretty gassed from the 1500 I just went out and did it for the fun of it. I have a lifetime PR of 1:52, but with the field and everything I wasn't expecting to get anywhere near that. At the start of the race I just got caught in a bad spot and I couldn't do anything really. I finished the last 200 really strong and salvaged a 1:57. I was pretty happy honestly, a 4:02/1:57 double is pretty solid and I get a week off then I'm back at it. Looking forward I would like a get a sub-4:00 1500 then come back and run a 1:55 or below. I just have to keep working hard man!Chicago Bulls | Chicago Bears | Chicago White Sox | Chicago BlackhawksComment

Re: OS Running Thread
The San Diego Rock N Roll marathon is coming up (June 1st) and I'm thinking about signing up. It would be my first marathon, I may do the half-marathon instead.
Any advice to make that first marathon a little easier?Comment
