35-40. The age and "complications" thing doesn't bother me and I'm confident in my ability to find a younger girl to settle down with when the time is right.

This. Lucky for us, if we take care of ourselves, we are like fine wine.... we get better with age.

This probably isn't a thread I should reply to since it doesn't actually apply to me now, but I can say that I'm 34 years old and have a soon to be 3 year old and 4 month old, and aside from meeting my wife, being a father is the greatest thing in the world. I never really knew how much I was missing out on before parenthood, but for those of you guys out there that don't have kids, you would be surprised. Sure most only think of the negative things like less money, no more free time, and so forth........but now I don't know how I ever lived without mine before they were here. There's nothing that compares to holding your newborn the first time, or hearing the word "daddy" day in and day out.

A lot of people say this, but it is so true. When we had our fourth son, and they put him in my arms, a wave of emotion came on me. First, I knew it was our last baby. The other thing was that this was my fourth time doing this. I was considered a veteran. Whereas before I was all caught up in if he was ok, was he breathing etc., this time I had a real nice peace about everything.

I thought we were going to wait till we were 30 too (wife is 2 days older than me), but I'm glad we had our son when we were 27.....buys me some time for the wife and I to have our next child around 30/31 and still enjoy each other w/ the house all to ourselves before we both turn 50.

Anyways, I only ask because I know a couple that recently had a baby, and the mom is 38/39 and the father already into his 40s. IMO that is way too late...
Much more responsible to have them when your older and mature enough than young and immature for alot. A more glaring problem would be Kids having Kids

Good question. I don't know. First things first is meeting a woman that I think is good enough to bear my child.

I'm a bit picky, but I don't need a child to complete my life. Actually, I don't need a woman to complete my life either. So, if she doesn't fit what I want (and really it isn't much at all) then I won't settle just to start a family.

Would I like to have one one day? Sure. But, I want to make sure that I know I'll be happy with the woman for life and that she will be a perfect mother in my eyes.

Don't know about ya'll but I am glad to have a kid. My son means the world to me. He is 4 years old. I had him when I was 22.

To those of u that don't have kids all I can say is live your life up as much as u can untill u have kids. Having kids can be a pain in the butt sometimes and it takes alot of sacrifice and devotion.

Only thing that sucks is I cant enjoy some of the stuff I used to anymore like video gaming, hanging out late, and puffin on the la la. Yes I said it.

                      Older and mature sure...but 38/39 and mid-40's?

I say 21-35 is an acceptable medium. If you're an active male/female over 40, and can keep up w/ your toddler than go for it.

But if you're someone who is aging, and your age/inability to meet the physical demands (like playing outside w/ your kid) limits the activities you can do w/ him/her and becomes a disservice to your child I have a problem w/ that.

Why? To me, there are VERY few people on this planet that should have children before the age of 25. Especially us men, I can't think of a one guy I knew/know who I felt was ready to be a father at age 21-24. Way too immature still and not stable financially. In the grand scheme of things, you're still a kid at age 21.

I feel the "you need to get married and start having kids by your early 30's at the latest" is a really overblown in this country. I'm in better shape than most people a decade younger than me. I take very good care of myself and keeping up with kids when I'm in my late 30's will not be an issue for me.

My latest ex - her sister is 35 and the brother in law is 39 and they just had their first child a year ago. Both have very successful careers and are healthy/in great shape. To be honest, they're my role models for career/parenting/marriage. They accomplished a lot personally/professionally and brought their child into a safe, loving and financially secure family. To me, that's the ultimate goal when it comes to me having kids.

This is pretty much irrelevant because there are tons of obese people in this country regardless of age. There are tons of parents in their early/mid 20's that can't meet the physical demands of being a parent.

I see your point. I've just seen so many grandparents rasing grandkids because the parents were incapable mentally. And the Grandparents were much better at it by being present and giving them the support they need. Just my view from life experinces.

Yea 21 is too young too...25-37 a good range? We were both 27 when we had our son. Certainly financially secure, mature, etc. far outweighs the need to be able to be physically active (no scarcasm).

Its just that if you're older and not willing to go out and do too many things because in your older-age you're not as inclined to go out to public settings, and/or walk around the DC zoo or something...then I think you're doing a disservice. You're kid is not getting all the experiences they should be, had mommy and daddy been younger when they had him/her.

This is true too. Not going to refute that. If you're an obese person and a poor example of health then you likely should've never had a kid to begin w/ because your same nutrional standards etc. will be passed down. As a society we have to just deal w/ these issues because its not like we're going to turn into China and start dictating who can and can't have kids...or how many.

Why does somebody need to be a certain age?

Age, for the most part, is worthless in this discussion. You are either ready/willing/able to take care of a child or you're not.
