At the same time though, if I'm trying to lose weight and become healthier, I would rather eat healthy food instead of just reduce my calories, still eating McD's and Wendy's, you know? I don't think weight is the be-all end-all.

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
A big thing for me is how full you can feel on healthy food. I mean i can have one relatively small burger from a fast food joint and that's 500 cals gone. I can also have 1 whole grilled chicken breast, 1 cup of brown rice and 2 cups of mixed greens and that's 500 cals but i'm really full.Comment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
i hear ya and it gets easier once u hit ur stride. when u do, u find u dont need fast food anymore. if i eat that stuff, i feel so gross afterwards and tired. its more of a lifestyle change is the way i look at it. moderation is so important.Comment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
At some point in 2010 I was upwards of 300 lbs, then I got a spark and seemingly effortlessly got down to 273 last week. Had a little bit of a relapse over Spring Break, but getting back on it come Monday (or tomorrow) when I go back to "normal" life. Crazy thing is, I lost pretty much 30 pounds, but got BIGGEREagles | Phillies | Sixers | Flyers

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
I'm going strong. Weighed in at 305.8 this morning. I want to hit 299 by the end of April so I should get there the way I am going! Goal 1 is almost here! Then on to 280 to get to high school grad weight. Then 260 to freshmen weight. I've always been big..Comment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
I weighed in at 254 yesterday morning.
I was at 272 the weekend before starting P90x about a month ago. I had one last "bad weekend" of eating. I was shocked when I saw the scale at 272, so I weighed myself the next morning and was at 264.5.
So I am at least down 10.5 pounds since then.Comment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
Lol nope nothing wrong
sorry dude but this is simply wrong. Scientific studies published in recent years actually show your metabolism increases when fasting for up to 48 hours. The whole 'needing to eat every 3 hours' thing is a myth perpetuated by the supplement companies who sell things like shakes and protein bars.

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
I hope i didn't offend you in anyway as that we not my intention but there are so many myth's that exist in the general public that people just blindly follow when the science that is coming out is actually saying the complete opposite.
Many of the things preached like the eating small meals etc actually make sense in some form which is why they are so easily followed but it's just not true.
For example a recent study showed that it takes the body over 7 hours just to digest whey protein and it's way longer for real food. A decent piece of steak or chicken may take 24-48 hours to be properly broken down and utilised by the body so eating every few hours is irrelevant. There's nothing inherently wrong with it and for some people it suits them best because they can eat that way and enjoy it but for people like me who actually like to feel full and satisfied by a meal lots of little small meals leaves me feeling totally unsatisfied and always hungry.
Another one is that whole "don't eat saturated fat as it'll lead to heart disease' thing that has been endorsed by the government both in your country and mine. There is actually no link between dietary sat fat intake and cholesterol and no link to heart disease. Hell if anything a diet low in fat is far from optimal because it reduces testosterone in men which is critical for libido, sexual function and building / maintaining muscle and low fat diets have been linked to depression.
Like AA touched on in his Paleo thread the reliance on refined carbohydrates in the western diet is ridiculously high and is the real reason people are getting fat.Comment
