    Re: Quirky things you do...

I don't watch trailers for movies I already know I want to see. So if one trailer gets me excited, I likely won't watch that one again or any additional ones. Theaters end up messing me up, so if "that trailer" comes on I will lower my head, cover my ears, and play a mellow "LA LA LA" song. Same for TV spots during commercial breaks. I'll just mute it, go to the guide, change the channel, look away, or fast-forward if I'm able to.

Laugh all you want, but I have found that my movie-going experience has been enhanced so much by not letting trailers spoil plot points or moments. Many impressions I post in the "movies seen recently" thread, I will generally comment about going back to the trailer after seeing the film and approving or disapproving of people seeing them beforehand.

It really messed me up once when I went to see a double-feature (The Gift and Sinister 2), and Sinister 2 played as a trailer right before The Gift. I got exposed to two scarier moments before I even realized that's what I was watching a trailer for. Kind of ruined those parts for me and I just ho-hummed during those parts for that actual film.

When playing baseball, it mentally messed me up if I watched a pitcher shake off, so I would often look off-center until he started his delivery or set motion. I might have been playing guessing games in my head already for what was coming, and the moment he shook off I would start second-guessing myself, wondering if they are opting instead for another pitch or just pulling my leg (for example, if the catcher just uses a "shake-off" waggle as a sign). Now I start thinking about how the pitcher and catcher are communicating my at-bat, and which pitch he really wants to go to next. On that note, I also didn't like when the pitcher and catcher had a quick visit right before or during my at-bat, because it makes me feel like they're getting a leg up on me haha.

Pretend like you're the batter and the catcher says during every pitch: "A fastball is coming." That would psych me out so much and screw me up more than just not knowing! It shouldn't, oooh it absolutely shouldn't. But it does. Is he saying that so they go to offspeed? Is he saying that so I think they're going to offspeed and he still throws it? Even if they throw nine fastballs in a row with that comment, when is that other pitch coming? The treachery! To spin off a White Goodman quote: "Nobody makes me think my own thoughts!"

Anyway, the only really quirky part about that is me looking a little off to the side when a pitcher may or may not shake off his pitch.

Love this! I am going to print this out. When I call pitchers up to varsity from jv and go over the signs. One is a shake off, just say no and shake it. It will get the batter to rethink what they think is coming.

That is usually met with a very very blank staaaaarrrrrre during the explanation. Hahah, the beautiful ins and outs of baseball. Love it!

Oh, absolutely. I do this all of the time, going as young as 10U travel ball teams. A lot of times I will course through the first part of the lineup only going to the changeup if I have my pitcher "shake off to it." Then eventually I'll work in some changeups without the shake-off, and when I want to bust that inside heater against the #3 or #4 moment in a dire situation, I'll have them shake off to a fastball.

Even if the batter isn't thinking anything, nothing is really lost along the way. But if the batter is thinking something (and on my teams whether I'm coaching or playing, we talk about tipped pitches), it works in your favor.

But again, like I said, the shake off for me always throws me in a rut. I get so ****ing confused. I start questioning myself way too much after that. People say that you can overthink something at the plate and I usually never believe it (as long as it doesn't really affect your swing, so to speak), but once a shake-off happens overthinking is all I end up doing.

Just try peeking at the catchers signs instead.

          Nothing but fun ensues.

Haha, my catcher will put down the middle finger. The pitcher will then deliver the ball directly into the numbers of the 'peeker'.

When pitching during my baseball days, I would walk around the mound and then get on the mound from the front (between mound and home plate) before the start of each inning. During the inning, once I received the ball back after a hitter I would stand behind the mound and tap my glove, with the ball in it, 3 times on my right thigh.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

                I am a huge even #'s person.
Everything always has to be an even # from the volume on my radio or TV to the thermostat in my condo.
Even if I am in someone elses car I will change their volume to an even #.
What is even weirder is my girlfriend is the same way.
We have been dating for about 5 months now. About a week in I noticed when she turned up the volume in her car radio it went to 23 and she immediately changed it to 24.
I asked her why and she told me she hates odd #'s.
Guess we are meant to be!

No. Just going to sleep around usual time tonight and everythings fine again.

Similar to when time changes, I never get as impacted by the clock as most other people are. I could change my clock, go to sleep, and wake up around the same time I usually do based on what the clock says.

The only thing that ruins my sleep cycle is sleeping at hotels because I'm used to clock being on other side of my bed, which isn't really possible to do in hotels.

I never understood the whole time thing screwing up peoples sleep cycle. If you goto bed at 10pm and get up at 6am what's the difference? It's still 8 hours later! I don't know anybody it effects anyways, but I have read about people complaining about it. Like with me it changes during hunting season in the fall. The only difference is what the clock says, instead of being in my stand at 7am, I am there at 6am, so what? My body doesn't know it's 6am now and not 7am.

Edit:I should say except for the one night it actually changes, even then I don't notice. Of course I only sleep 3 or 4 hours a night anyways.

                              Having "head in the clouds".

As in me being calm by just looking up at clouds. Not in public or anything random like that, but just at home either from my deck or just looking out window.

Not most times, but sometimes depending on the cloud formations or the lighting (sunset/rise or moonlight shining off them) provides for some cool visuals and makes you just admire nature.

same, but different: I do this but not in the day or for the clouds, but at night, for the stars. but I have to stop after awhile because the peaceful easies eventually give way to the thoughts of the possibilities of what bad things up there lie beyond
