I always flush public toilets with my foot.

If I go number two I always flush twice. Once for the business and one courtesy flush.

Nothing more disgusting then walking into restroom and seeing leftovers of someone’s previous business

I don't find toilet flushing with a foot quirky. sanitary, yes. sensible, yes. what would be quirky is if you threw away your shoes after every flush

I don't know if its considered quirky, but this is why I don't allow shoes to be worn inside my house.

You take them off at the door. Each door entry into a my home has a dedicated spot to place one's shoes upon entering.

when it gets cold at night and someone hogs all the covers, I empty my sleeves and pull my arms inside my shirt for warmth. after all, chivalry ain't dead and despite what you may have heard, I AM strong enough to steal the covers back, if I wanted

                Re: Quirky things you do...

When eating at home, if I got some goods still on my plate after finishing the e-mail (like sauce), I still lick it clean. 32 years old, and I still eat like a child.

I probably mentioned this in the "Took you way too long to realize" thread a long time ago, but my dad finally told me like my senior year of high school that I hold my fork/spoon wrong in my hand. I didn't know there was a proper way at the time because as long it gets in my ****ing mouth then it's all good, right? I'm a messy eater in general. A lot of it is attributed to the fact that I eat fast as all hell. Anyway, I got it corrected, which is probably good going off to college and not looking like I eat like a baby.

What I've noticed with others though is that most people look up when they take a bite out of their food while eating in public; it's like a subconscious act and they aren't aware of it, but I'm sure there is something there prodding at them to see if others are watching them eat or something (which of course, if I noticed this, then technically I'm doing that heh heh). And yet... I don't look up when I take bites. I mean if I'm having a conversation or something and showing that I'm listening, then sure. It's not an instinctive reaction of mine, though.

That's what I hate about public eating. I like focusing on just eating, so people sometimes see me just looking at my food/head down, and have to point it out.

I'm not doing it to be rude, I'm just not someone who chews their food while staring at others and/or taking breaks in between bites to start having conversations.

The more you talk when eating, the less you eat. It won't happen this year, but that's always been something I hated about family Christmas get togethers. I never eat a lot because I can never simply just eat. Its always talking in between every bite, looking up at everyone else talking and all that.

There's a right and wrong way? Now I'm wondering if I've been doing it wrong.

Along those lines (and you've probably done this considering your job)...anyone ever look at how many different ways people hold pens and pencils? Similar to how people hold utensils, who cares as long as it works? But I remember when I was younger I'd look and try to mimic others' styles just to try different techniques.

Sounds weird when I read it back, but oh well.

I can see that it matters how you hold chopsticks but a fork/spoon? unless you're putting the handle in your mouth, it's pretty hard to mess those up

I feel like most of the so called "etiquette" rules of dining are about not seeming like an ungrateful slob when someone invites you over for dinner. But the stuff about holding silverware correctly, using the right utensils for the right course, etc, feels stodgy and self-important. Forgetting to put a napkin on your lap doesn't equal being somehow low class.

Theres obvious ones like no chewing with your mouth open or slurping food.

Ones like proper utensils, napkins on lap, finger bowl and all that just seem extra.

I'm never eating at a place, or with someone, where I need to use a specific spoon for soup vs a diff meal, and a diff fork for salad, a diff fork for a diff meal, needing to use a finger bowl, pinky out, and all that stuff.

Those "high society/elite class" types annoy me.

Although I'm not the type of person who likes eating at a restaurant either. I hate sitting down in a setting like that with all those rules, and then getting someone to bring you food and filling up your glass every other time you take a sip. Buffets though are a whole diff story.

I have never heard of a finger bowl. I had to google it to learn about it.

But in my defense, the people who use a finger bowl probably have never heard of the almighty spork.

I'm so tired of Prius drivers doing 10 below the speed limit.

If I ever have one race up behind me, I now deliberately slow down to lawnmower speed in imitation of them.
