    Missing Malaysian Plane

I still think it's likely in the ocean somewhere but I also don't understand why you'd fly for nearly 8 hours just to down the plane in the water.

Very intriguing story as tragic as it is.

Plenty of terrorist friendly countries in those parts, I think. I don't think finding a place to land it is that unlikely.

I also think the most likely scenario is the ocean, but after eight days and the resources being used to search for this enormous plane, it's very odd that not a piece of luggage or wreckage has been spotted yet - big ocean or not.

Obviously the eight hour theory makes the search area much bigger, too.

I don't know what the hell to think at this point.

I don't really have a theory, but if this plane is being used for terrorist purposes, I don't think the U.S. is the target. I think Tel Aviv or Jerusalem is. But I think that's very unlikely. If not, all hell would break loose.

Jerusalem wouldn't be targeted for anything. Tel Aviv, yes. But Israel's defenses are pretty sturdy too. I'm not sure an attempt to use this missing airliner in any sort of attack on Israel would have any more success than an attempt to use it against the US.

Is there anyone here that actually knows about modern radar and detection systems? I keep seeing "fly under the radar", but it seems like it would be pretty hard to fly a 777 under the radar for very long.

There is also the fact that the US would be well outside of the possible range for the plane on a single full load of fuel from any of those countries in the Middle East/Central Asia that could be harboring it. Not to mention that it supposedly couldn't have even made it that far from Kuala Lumpur on the fuel it had. One article I read suggested that it could have landed somewhere in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, but it also said that there are only 3 airstrips on those islands that could accommodate a 777, all 3 owned by the Indian government. It just seems like the more we learn, the stranger this whole thing gets.

“The further south you come from Malaysia, the more complicated, deeper and rugged the terrain gets,” Gallo said. “We could be talking about 3 miles, 4 miles, easily, of depth. Possibly deeper than Air France 447 [2.5 miles].”
                ---
"A possible if less likely track goes toward Kazakhstan from northern Thailand, which would force the airliner to fly through Chinese and possibly Indian air space.

Investigators largely discount the northern track theory because the nations along that route have robust air-defense radar systems, and no evidence has turned up that the rogue plane flew into that airspace, according to a person familiar with the probe who spoke on condition of not being named because of the sensitivity of the information."

Somewhere in the Andaman Islands? Holy crap....it's the North Sentinalese finally making a move against civilization.

Well, that's the thing about a circle and its infinite radii. I mean, they really have to assume it could have gone any direction on any piece of [probably remote] land they can find.

This is the strangest story of the decade.

1000 miles off Australia puts them right in that initial "southern path trajectory", US has stood firm on where they think the plane is for a while now.

This is a wild story, hopefully something will be found so these families can have some sort of closure. I'd hate for this to go unsolved leaving loved one's unsure of what happened or could be happening to their friends/family.

I thought about Israel the other day. The Israelis would shoot it down before it could do any damage within their country. But how would China react to Israel shooting down a plane full of Chinese?

I think if you get on a plane nowadays...you fully understand that if the plane is hijacked....you are most likely dead one way or the other if it is going to be used for nefarious purposes. Either by the terrorists...or the country they are planning on attacking.
