I didn't even read the part that you're comparing to frozen pizzas in grocery stores and not baked pizzas in pizza eateries. My bad.

The only national type pizza chain I have eaten at is Pizza Hut and that was in college long ago. Living in NY there are mom and pop places on every street and frequent them instead. Not sure how these chains survive when there are far superior choices at every turn.

It was sort of a rambling post, I'll give you that. It it were a pizza, it would be a "deluxe" or a "supreme" for sure.

My consternation (great word, imo) lies in that there seems to be no real niche for "take and bake" pizza. It combines the expense of ordering out with the inconveniences of waiting on making it yourself and not having it delivered.

You have your economy grocery store frozen pizzas and your mid-level frozen pizza--these days you can spend upwards of $10 bucks on a grocery store frozen pizza. You have your hot & ready that gives you grocery store prices but without the onerous task of turning on your oven (God forbid!). You have your chain pizza restaurants, your slightly upscale carryout/delivery, and your more authentic let's take the family or make a date of it places. Then, you have basically any ingredient you could want on a pizza, including crusts and doughs and kits, also at the grocery store for those who want their pizza just so.

Maybe I feel too strongly about this, but if there were a political election upcoming and one candidate was pro "take and bake" and one was against (or at least neutral), I know who I would vote for.

Well, I think your questions are answerable. For one, not everyone lives in New York City and has that many choices. Heck, even in a decent-sized Midwestern city (~100K), your choices are much different/less. Also, the mom and pop places know they're good and charge accordingly. Price and availability.

In reading about Papa John's and the CEO's stupidity, I found out Domino's is apparently the best performing pizza chain as they have a very high stock price. Turns out, their price has gone from like $12 in June/2010 to $272 today. Their rate of return this year is almost 50%!

With how awful I thought this chain was doing after redoing everything, that surprises me greatly.

Dominos has had a very smart marketing campaign for a little while now. I can't stand Little Ceaser's having pizzas premade sitting under heating lamps instead of making you a "fresh" one.

Count me in the group that doesn’t understand the take-and-bake model. We have several here. They make zero business sense to me.

Whatever. The pizza discussion is always pointless to me.

The worst pizza in the world is better than literally 90 percent of anything else someone can possibly eat.

I took my Dad and uncle to Texas Roadhouse last night. I don't know how many times I've eaten at Texas Roadhouse in my life, 50? 100?, and not one single time have I, or the party I was with, had bad food or service.

There is at least 10 different entre menu options that I'll eat from there. Last night I had the Roadkill.

Weird. Down here it is called Indiana Roadhouse..

I like that place too, and now that you bring it up i haven't been there in quite a while. I must be in a restaurant slump, because i haven't even thought about it. I think it's about time to go back.
