    Re: Off-Topic

It’s much more about brand awareness than it is product awareness.

Not everyone can afford a new car but seeing what a particular model of a new car looks like tends to pique interest to someone looking to buy a new car to look at one of their older models.

Same with smaller items. If you’re married to a particular brand advertising doesn’t tend to do much but for those that bounce around seeing ads for different brands can make them think about it more.

To the majority of the public, advertising is very effective for different reasons. But there is a portion of the public it does nothing for.

I know yesterday was Halloween and all, but doesn't sink that it means October is over and it's now November.

Maybe because I'm getting older but I swear this year has been flying by.

Time change this time around feels more depressing even though you know what to expect every year.

Days get darker sooner and weather gets colder.

Hate when things get dark well before you're even having dinner.

Tradeoff of course is earlier sunrises, but depends on when you wake up/leave home as to if this impacts you much. For me the later sunrise and later sunset is more ideal.

Ya, the difference between the morning light starting to show at 6:20 vs 7:20 seems to be meaningless. It doesn't really fix anything, or making anything better in the winter. There are fewer hours of daylight regardless, and whether it's still pitch black at 7am, or the sun is down completely by 3:45pm, it's like pick your poison.

I wonder what it would actually take to stop doing this?

A single area isn't gonna just stop, everyone needs to be on board.

You're not getting Canada stopping while the US isn't, then suddenly the times are all weird, especially for TV networks and businesses.

You're also not having NY stop while California continues doing it either.

I know in Canada they've basically said if someone like NY state does it, they're doing it too (which doesn't mean much really since they'd be forced to be on board whether they wanted to or not).

If they ever do stop, just set clocks forward in March or whenever it is and don't go back.

If you tell people you can have sunrise at 7am+5pm sunset or 8am sunrise+6pm sunset, more are probably saying 8 sunrise and 6 sunset.

If 7-10 and 4-7 are rush hour, doesn't it make more sense for the peak of the rush (aka 5-6pm) to be brighter vs 7-8am?

I dont recall which one, but Indiana or Arizona never adopted DLS time and the other only part of the state observes it, and there are Indian Reservations that dont observe it. Also, it hasnt really been around all that long, most places didnt adopt it until as recently as the 1960s. Another thing most people dont know is this period for the next 4 months is the "normal" time. The "artificial" change is when we spring ahead in March. I think the main reason we go back to normal time is so kids arent waiting for their bus in the dark in the mornings.

Arizona doesn't change. The rest of the country needs to follow.

Daylight savings time should be the time, period. We're not even in this 'normal' time for all that long anyway - it's like barely 4 months. More daylight in the evening = better. When we spring forward in '24, we need to just leave it there.

I have to ask, the ESPN scroll, there was a soccer match between Man City and Young Boys. That was real? There's a team called "Young Boys" and they played "Man City"?

and would that've been on the scroll for any other reason?

Kind of reminds me of when the Giants and Cowboys play and then its G-Men vs. 'Boys.

I think they were so wonderful back then because there wasn't an over-saturation of memes at the time. Now, people try to make a meme out of everything to the point that the idea of a meme for a particular scenario sometimes feels fatigued.
