I went to system restore, and it said I never backed up anything (not even those windows update backups that get auto done).

Didnt know what else to do. I thought all my files were gone forever which would've been horrible since many important things are on it. Yes, I manually do back up some files on my external drive, but many hasn't been backed up since probably Christmas (I do it about once every quarter), and didnt think of backing up other files at all in all the years I've had a drive.

I restarted the laptop and randomly everything came back.

I'm backing up every last file on the laptop now, everything from photos to browser bookmarks and everything in between.

It's not even 10am....how was everyone else's day lol.
Mine did that to me a few weeks ago after a windows update. Freaked me out too

Did it happen again or just a one time thing?

I've been thinking of cloning the HDD onto a new SSD and using that instead, maybe this was a sign I should.

But not sure if the issue is the laptop as a whole or just the drive. If the issue could just be the drive, that's an easier fix.

Windows updates, least for 10 have been screwy lately. I'd still back your important stuff up just to be safe imho.

I've noticed many times despite updating everything, once the restart happens, it claims the updates were unsuccessful and its undoing the updates.

I've just set it to metered connection so no update happens automatically anymore.

Just hope the process to clone the drive is fairly easy. Cheap way to breathe new life into the laptop since the drive is the only bad thing about it, the ram especially is great on it.

They need updates for their updates. Windows 10 is just a strange and wonky experience sometimes.

One thing that I've always felt was odd/dumb is that when you select the default "shutdown" is doesn't fully shut it down, it puts it in a hybrid sleep mode. For some reason that has always bugged me to an irrational level, even though I know there are ways around it. It just results in more people having stupidly long uptimes, which creates problems in and of itself.

Windows 7 is still my fave OS out of all. Never found anything wrong with it.

What do you mean its not a full shutdown?

I'm going to clone my HDD to a new SSD, so hopefully there won't be any issues and I won't be simply transferring the issues over to a new drive.

Only positive is that I already have a SSD, so that's about $50 saved right there in this process.

Random "encounter" today. For context, they have a 3 person limit in the elevator.

The elevator is going down, and stops at a floor since someone on that floor pushed the button to go down as well. However, since this elevator is at the social distance capacity limit, I pressed the button to close the door as soon as the door was opened, partially to save time, and also just to avoid this person trying to come on incase they had any ideas of doing so.

As the door closed and the elevator is about to continue going down, I hear this loud thud on the door. I'm guessing the person who was on that floor punched or kicked the elevator door because of that quick close.

Yes or no to what I did being an acceptable thing?

Nah. You’re not god of the elevator. I don’t think you meant anything by it, but you’ve gotta let the doors open and let whoever see things for themselves. Closing the door on them as it’s opening is a dick move.

Question is: what are the chances the person decides "**** the rules" and just gets in, and then everyone has to either force him/her off (probably not happening) or deal with the fact that everyone on the elevator is now responsible for breaking the rule. I'm all for avoiding that nonsense altogether. The person was supposed to be left behind regardless.

That's another thing too. Not much that can be done, and no point having confrontation over what would've been some 10 second elevator ride.

Although there were times in the past where I might have been the only person on and someone was gonna get in, hesitated, then asked me if they could enter. I had no problem with that (I'm sure if I said no, they wouldn't have gotten in, but theres no reason saying no to begin with in this case).

Regardless, once everything goes back to normal, not sure how long it'll take to even adjust back. My daily commute even consisted of being on a super crowded train, where you almost had to push people to get off at your stop.

What if one of the other two in the elevator was going to get off on that floor?
