    Re: Off-Topic

I was in college in the mid-2000s and the lecture halls had all been refurbished with ethernet ports at regular intervals along the tables. We'd bring our laptops and cables to class and plug them in. It was like "wow, this is modernity."

If they'd have known how soon wireless would arrive, they could've saved a lot of money. In fact, if memory serves me, I was using ethernet as a freshman and wireless as a senior.

Ya'll remember the free internet disc you could get from like K-Mart, but it came with an ad banner that took up a fourth of the screen?

People used to get internet from a disc, and now the internet has replaced physical media. Strange how that works.

Those AOL discs made great coasters.

Yep. I also remember having to make sure I dialed the local number for NetZero or they charged me long distance rates.

Similar thing happened with my tv setup a few years back. They have cable boxes that no longer need to be directly connected, you just have a single modem and the channels comes through internet from the tv company too. The amount of cables that got thrown away because of "wireless tv" was great.

When I got my first gaming system with a wireless control, it blew my mind. Think it was the 360 where I didn't have to be anchored to the console.

To nobody's surprise, I got banned from AOL chat rooms like 9 times and had to have my family appeal or make me a new screen name each time.

I survived on free AOL discs in college lol, 14.4k dialup couldn't do anything but chat rooms and buddy lists, and it somehow worked

With the way they lived their lives while it was all being broadcasted on television and hearing about other things going on in their lives, I'm surprised any of them are alive right now.

May she rest in peace, though.

I've posted about my concussion woes here quite often, so I won't get into it other than to say that I haven't been able to play a video game since early June because of concussion symptom woes that resurfaced (from two concussions that occurred in summer 2022).

Around late October I finally began feeling some improvement, and now I'm able to do a little bit more physically as well as being able to watch more things a little more normally. With a little downtime from work, this morning I tried a 3 inning game of SMB 4 and did the opening mission of Spider-Man on PC (which takes 25-30 minutes)... and boy, I feel terrible all over again.

I don't know what's wrong with me and my head, or what I can do to fix this, but it seems I have to put maybe a year of pause on gaming, or close to it at least. This is so upsetting. Those June symptoms resurfaced from what seemed like a combination of running and gaming, and I don't want to revert. I can't afford it. It's too much on my body and I won't be able to work if so, much less operate like a normal human being.

Small steps, sir, jumping into a 30 minute campaign mission probly can wait, settle in with side quests, something less stressful, maybe explore an open area for a bit and see how that goes. Hopefully things get better for you, head issues are not fun

I can relate. After having gone through several concussions during my time as a cop along with a messed up neck and the surgery that followed that in 2019, I suffered a TBI in September 2022 at the hands of my now-ex-wife during an altercation that is too bizarre for me to indulge you all in at the moment. Since then, I have battled numerous side effects and symptoms of brain injuries, most of which begin occurring months or longer after the initial injury. Tasks as simple as writing have become difficult and my tremors are becoming worse, sadly. I am on different medication to prevent seizures and they seem to be helping some, but I just pray daily that things will begin to improve rather than continuing to decline. Such is life, always unpredictable.
