Well, Iowa high schools rushed back to start baseball and softball. Now multiple schools across the state are reporting positive tests and have to cancel games for 2 weeks.

Parents protesting to school boards to "let the kids play" and now their kids have the virus. Great job.

I was curious how that would go. Pretty much as expected, it seems

Craziest thing about all this to me is that we could return to about as normal as we can have just by wearing masks. If people really bought in, wore their masks out in public 100% of the time we'd be on solid ground and may not even have to wait for a vaccine to develop

I forget where I read this (wherever it was, just know it was a legit/trusted source I promise lol), but I had seen an article showing that it doesn't even take universal compliance to drop the R0 below 1 (where the virus eventually dies out). It was something like 60-70% mask compliance would be enough to do the trick and eliminate the virus.

And its so EASY. You would think people were being asked to donate money or skip lunch or abstain from sex or something

Just cover your face. Just cover your face. You couldn't ask for an easier thing to do.

My father in law was like "Man. You guys got it easy. Back when I was coming up, people had to decide if they were going to do their part by fighting in the war to protect the people of this country...and to protect people now, all we're being asked to do is wear a mask at Costco." I think the problem is some are viewing wearing a mask and socially distancing is being asked to abstain from sex [emoji23]

            Yup instead we get:

Person 1: We need to stay at home for a period of time to slow this spread and get this thing under control.

Person 2: **** that, I need to live my life!!!

Person 1: Ok fine, we'll open things up and you can go about your life just wear a mask when you're around others and wash your hands and be safe.

Person 2: No way, I'm not wearing a mask and I'm gonna lick some railings and be dumb cuz 'Merica and Freedom!!

New law passed here where masks are required in all public indoor spaces, so any kind of shopping or work will need one.

Sounds like it could be required until at least September.

I'm still on the fence about specific masks. Yes I think masks are needed, but all of the ones people are getting flat out say they don't stop you from getting sick or anything. It stops germs from major things like someone sneezing near you, but I feel like the masks available right now aren't as germ proof as many thing.

Definitely a small placebo effect here.

I'm thinking of getting an extra one from Adidas, but want to see how the Amazon one holds up first. Although by then, the Adidas one is probably sold out.

"Reopen protests" were populated with middle aged and older people or whatever, right? That's why they were mocked because people thought they just "want haircuts!" or whatever, right? They're just OK boomer or ma'am this is Wendy's or whatever **** people like to be douches about.

So if the age of the virus cases is skewing way younger right now, and there's a strong connection and overlap between ideology held by that age group, people visibly present at the protests and riots being younger, and those who incessantly and annoyingly mocked the old folks for not wanting to lose their businesses and livelihoods then uh.....yeah.

You misunderstand. I don’t a **** whose fault it is. It was humans being human. I said protests, Memorial Day, and reckless openings all spiked the cases we are seeing.

But if we are at the point in the pandemic that we are blaming each other for causing the spikes, then at least we can agree there is a problem to solve.

Dr. Anthony Fauci says U.S. coronavirus outbreak is 'going to be very disturbing,' could top 100,000 new cases a day

The U.S. is "not in total control" of the coronavirus pandemic and daily new cases could surpass 100,000 new infections per day if the outbreak continues at its current pace, White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said Tuesday.

The country is now reporting nearly 40,000 new coronavirus cases every day*— almost double from about 22,800 in mid-May*— driven largely by outbreaks in a number of states across the South and West. Fauci said about 50% of all new cases are coming from four states: Florida, California, Texas and Arizona.

"I can't make an accurate prediction but it's going to be very disturbing," Fauci told senators in a hearing held by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. "We are now having 40-plus-thousand new cases a day. I would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around, and so I am very concerned."

Fourth of July celebrations will certainly cause a whole 'nother spike, especially with everybody hanging around food (means no masks).

I just want to see Tenet, that's it! Let me die in peace after that.
