In regards to the protests and how they actually may not have contributed to a rise in cases...

"The researchers found that protests correlated with a net increase in overall stay-at-home behavior in cities where they occurred — and the increase was larger in cities that saw more sustained protests or reports of violence."

As protests against racism and police violence swept across the country, drawing massive crowds into the streets amid a pandemic, public health officials worried about what the overall impact would be. Would these protests — which many health leaders said they support — also turn out to be virus super-spreading events? But a new study […]

Idk. The conclusion makes sense to me. Pretty solid explanation if one is actually open to understanding why [emoji2377]

If we take roughly 130k deaths, we've had about 44 9/11s due to this **** in 3 months.

And the perpetrators will face absolutely zero repercussions.

          Cool story.

So basically enough people saw the protests and were like "nah, I'm good, I'm staying home" to help cancel out whatever spread the protests might have caused.

Craziest thing it still has a long way to go to get to the number 1 killer in the US. Heart disease. That averages about 1750 deaths per day which is a lot. Hopefully we don’t get there though although it’s certainly possible.

I mean, maybe that helped. But that doesn't particularly prevent the spread otherwise considering the volumes. I mean cheesecake factory is not serving 50k people, you know.

True, if it stays at the present pace, if, then it will probably rank #3 in the US and much more deadly than the flu in given year.

Only mildly thread related but spent about 5 hours today in ER with a heart arrythmia. Pretty dejected because I had a procedure to cure this last year and up until now thought it worked. Now waiting on next steps but could be trying it again.

Good news is the timing was a lot better now than in April and May when hospitals here were getting overrun. Things seemed very calm there

Its all the processed foods most americans eat everyday, either got too much salt or too much sugar. Which pretty much makes half the country obese and vulnerable to alot of diseases

My grandmother smoked caffeinated bacon every morning for 89 years and she lived until the age of 95.

Yes, it was a joke. To get it, you need some assumptions that aren’t true. Those assumptions were the message. It’s how satire works.

I responded to the message. People are not desperately trying to suck more money from the government. People, like me, are accused of not caring about the economy, and think thinks the government should just send us free stuff.

So I’m pointing out that I thought the first check was dumb, and saving the economy is important, and has always been important. But it’s like getting a staph infection, but going to work instead of taking time off and getting it treated. You can save money, but you destroy the ability to generate revenue long term.

We had one opportunity to address the virus without completely tanking the economy, and we passed it up. That ship has sailed. But we can’t save the economy until the epidemic in the US is actually under control.

My wife’s law firm has just pushed back opening their offices a second time, and this time is because the 26-year-old lawyer who has nothing to fear brought it to work with plenty of 60+ old employees, at-risk employees, and employees like my wife who may be at less risk, but would bring it to me, who is at extreme risk.

That sent 10 people home, and the second case is in another group, so another group are going home. But it’s the people at home that are the problem.

Do Americans Understand How Badly They’re Doing?

America, however, is an utter disaster. Texas, Florida, and Arizona are the newest hubs of contagion, having apparently learned nothing from the other countries and states that previously experienced surges in cases. I stared at my phone in disbelief when the musician Rosanne Cash wrote on Twitter that her daughter had https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Eb8PMPlX...jpg&name=large been called a “liberal *****!” in Nashville for wearing a mask to buy groceries.

That insult succinctly conveys the crux of the problem. American leadership has politicized the pandemic instead of trying to fight it. I see no preparedness, no coordinated top-down leadership of the sort we’ve enjoyed in Europe. I see only empty posturing, the sad spectacle of the president refusing to wear a mask, just to own the libs. What an astonishing self-inflicted wound.
