I have no time for people playing politics with this. Saying reopening has caused spikes, but the protests somehow had no effect, or the protests had an effect, but reopening did not. It's so dumb.

More people out = more cases. If more people stayed home to avoid the crowds/protests, and that somehow balanced things out, that's cool. We're still where we are at with cases because fewer people have stayed home compared to March/April. Was always gonna happen.

Of course, reopening had a effect.

Pent up for 45 days or more, warmer weather = get out of Dodge mentality.

We had a similar surge in Wisconsin yesterday.

A person could blame the protest and the bars scenes for the uptick in positive cases. Wisconsin's number of tests were down yesterday as well. Both events have the potential of drawing a large amount of people, one outside and the other elbow to elbow with customers and bar owners not following the local governmental guidelines. ie mask wearing, washing hands, social distancing, spreading chairs and tables out, sanitizer stations, blah, blah, blah.

Let's not try to paint a serene peaceful picture of a bar finally opening after months of losing profits and only allowing a certain amount of people inside. I contacted a bar about scheduling a event, oh, what about the 25% capacity guidelines, oh, those are just guidelines, not rules, we will allow anyone who wants to enter to come in. Ok, thanks.

Wisconsin people were chastised because bars were allowed to open after the state supreme court hearing and people were seen inside a crowded bar, no mask, no social distancing and one nurse in Milwaukee said she didn't feel she needed to wear a mask inside a bar.

The next day she apologized and she took a 7 day self quarantine.

We all wish for the old normalcy to occur as soon as possible, but I personally feel we need further collaboration with owners of businesses and people to work together to get to that goal. Today, was the first time in task force history that Vice-President Pence suggested people should start wearing mask.

Cities and states literally asked people doing contact tracing to not ask if they took part in protests or riots.

So, saying they had no effect doesn't mean much. Can't be reflected in data if they can't even ask about it.

Also, there's an LA Times article that says the opposite anyway.

Nobody knows. Only common sense shows.

On another note, some of the masks I just got have openings to add filters. My original masks aren't like that.

Does this mean these masks that have the pockets won't work without my adding something or is the paper towel (thinking to use this unless someone else has other ideas?) I'd add into that slot just "extra"?

I put coffee filters in the pockets of my masks. Somewhere I read that was recommended.

None of those masks are going to 100% work. Filters will help more, but you could also just put some paper towels in it.

Basically it is just going to stop larger stuff from getting in/out. They should be effective enough unless you are extremely close to someone else though.

Trying not to be around anyone too close or for too long when wearing the masks. Tomorrow I'll have to pick up my traveling brother so I'll have to wear it then and for about 20 min driving home.

I'll try to get some coffee filters I suppose.

Have him wear one also and you should be good.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

Sunday is usually a low volume day in Wisconsin for positive cases, not this Sunday. 41% of people testing positive were from the 20-29 age group.

State health officials announced 457 cases — the most yet on a Sunday — in a little under 6,500 test results. That’s a positivity rate of 7.1%, the highest since 8% on May 20.

The daily positivity rate — a key indicator of the disease’s overall prevalence — was regularly below 3% during the first half of June but has trended up recently, fueled in part by an increase in cases among 20-somethings.

That age group accounted for 186 of Sunday’s positive results, or 41%, compared
with just 22% of 27,743 total confirmed cases since the pandemic began. The Department of Health Services didn’t report new deaths Sundays, and the statewide toll remained at 777

Went to the gym today for the first time since the start of this. Ours opened up almost 2 weeks ago.

Felt relatively safe. I'm only going to go for lifting I'll do any cardio outside and it seems like a lot of people had the same idea as the cardio section was literally empty.

Temperature check when you get there, machines that weren't already 6 feet apart were spread out, more spray bottles and such. They close every day from 1-2 to do cleaning and then open back up for the rest of the day. You are supposed to have a mask, only required to wear it in situation that you aren't 6 feet apart. I had one on the whole time, seemed like maybe 25% of people did, most people weren't wearing one.

As long as our numbers in CT stay good I'll keep going, if the spread picks up again I'll be a lot more hesitant.

I know the focus has been on daily cases

But looking at the daily death numbers, tolls have dropped quite precipitously. Not sure if it's younger/safer people getting it, better treatment, or the precautions that were implemented. Maybe it's just a combination of everything?

I am interested in seeing if this trend continues in a couple of weeks with the recent spike in casesScreenshot_20200629-100835~2.jpeg

I agree, T, the mortality rate is also very good data to look at.

It will be interesting to see if those go up in a few weeks or more?

Combination and potentially weaker strains. They said Florida has a weaker strain today, which is why the hospitals aren't overloaded with all the positive tests.

Almost everyone was wearing a mask today in the grocery store. It was early on a Monday, so mostly older people shopping though. There was a younger woman who wasn't wearing one and she also didn't care, went down the aisles the wrong way and got in people's space. I can't stand people like that either to clueless to see the arrows or feels they don't have to follow them and invade your personal space.

First time I was in Walmart with my wife, people were going down the wrong way. I told my wife, it's hard to avoid these people, can't they read. lol

She said, actually, they are difficult to locate because not everyone looks down all the time.

This article is a opinion piece from NPR and mentioned that protesters aren't what is causing the positive tests going out, it's because young people are moving around much, which is what Dub has been alluding too.

The median age in Florida in April was 60, now it's 37. This opinion piece's conclusion is older people get it, stay away from large crowds and the younger people are not getting it. And they add that is cause for concern because they could go home and infect mom/dad's, grandma's/grandpa's and not even know it.

I think they cited a couple of large parties in the article.

I think maybe another factor is people in areas that were hit harder back in April are being way more careful in general than people in areas that did better. I keep hearing people talk about not seeing their parents for months, or only interacting with family members from outside their living room window, etc. That definitely isn't the attitude in the area of CA where I live. Maybe it was a few months back, but even then I doubt it. It's a pretty big generality, granted.
