I’m not to stop. We still have a chance to avoid a catastrophe. But we have to act before people like you are comfortable because of the lag in damage this particular virus does.

Essential people have to work, obviously. But that doesn’t mean t-ball.

The pandemic sucks. All of our choices suck. Doing nothing and pretending it will go away to the worst of our crappy choices. We could be where the EU is right now to open the country up. We CHOSE not to.

That means more businesses dying. More unemployed. And more money than we can imagine being spent on healthcare instead of entertainment and other stuff.

I mean, Texas and Florida opened up because they listened to people like you. Look at them now as they clumsily backtrack while trying to save face.

So I’m going to argue against your “plan” every time I hear it, regardless of who is supporting it.

Scratch that. If Scott Gottlieb says it, I’m in board. I won’t argue with him.

Enjoy going back to work. Your state is now starting to show that problem with thinking 4-500 cases a day is manageable.

At least I will be able to feed my kids. You don't seem to mind them starving or thousands of other kids. See, I can play this game too.

The thing is, I believe that you do care. It would be great if you would extend the same courtesy to us.

No, but that is a fair point to bring up.

I wanted, and still want an actual federal plan. That would include staging food and supplies around the country to feed and care for people, along with a program to hand out at a depot or delivered. A ton of folks getting checks could be used to handle logistics.

We saw some of that start in April as restaurant groups started food programs. But they needed support and help from the government to make a real difference.

We mobilized an over one massive challenges before.

Thats all good, but what about right now? Should I just stay home while my kids starve and hope the useless federal govt stops calling eachother names and passes something, or feed my kids and, according to you, kill thousands of ppl?

You have all the answers. Tell me what to do.

Unemployment and food stamps are still there. I'm getting paid so far. That will supposedly end on July 25th, because its over, right?

I'm on unemployment for the first time in my entire life.

If things get hairy, I might have to go move with my folks, because if my wife is forced back into the office, it's probably not safe for me. All that sucks. But it's dealing with reality.

Sorry if you think you were too good ever need welfare. But it is there.

And based on the first comment you replied to and the "breathing your own air" bit...the info is coming from the same circle spreading false information online to discourage mask use

But as I alluded to earlier, I think you know that [emoji23]

You make more generalizations about people with zero facts to back them up then anyone in this thread. We've gone from nobody would care if you died to now the poster you failed to quote apparently believes he's too good for welfare without ever actually saying that.

Furthermore you've accused one particular poster of trolling yet with comments like the one you levied in your post some would argue you're doing the exact same thing.

I cant repeat it enough, take a breath and try and keep the emotions out of the posts as its serving no good.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

Was typing a really nice post and I accidentally clicked on another page and lost everything.

What I was trying to say is that, speaking as a mod here, we're "looser" on this thread because we know that this thread has to exist and we know that politics and news are impossible to separate from this ****. We try to dance because those are the rules here. We're letting some things go and that's clear.

We are all angry and frustrated and confused and unclear and furious and whatever else. Hell, look at my posts and you guys know me. Tensions are super, super high and we've never experienced anything like this ever. Not a stretch to say that, given the times and the impact (and the impact to come), this *is* probably the biggest thing to have ever happened. Ever.

That doesn't give you anyone an excuse to make personal attacks, etc.

Take it easy y'all. We've tried to be as good as possible this entire time and like it or not, this situation is gonna last for a long long time. We don't want to close this thread or hand out any punishments for anything. Just be smart. I know sometimes I have to remind myself of that too.

Yeah, this whole thing is just a mess on every level. Like someone said earlier, what this country really needs right now is strong leadership from the top, but that clearly isn't happening. There is just too much division and too many people at every level of our society who only care about their own interests and can't see the big picture.

For me, I've been wearing my mask when out, though I have been going out to eat at different restaurants since they reopened. But I am always by myself and try to go at off-peak hours and keep my mask on until I sit down with my food then put it back on when I get up to leave. It seems like most people are still getting their food to go and only a few are eating in, though it also seems to differ by place.

Allegheny county has seen a huge spike in cases this week though, mostly in younger people (19-49 years old) a lot of whom had travelled to other hotspot or were out at bars and/or restaurants. We may end up having to go back to the yellow phase.

My sister, her fiancee, my 2 nephews, and the older nephew's friend are currently in North Myrtle Beach, S. Carolina which has become one of the major hotspots recently. Hopefully they are at least trying to take precautions and will self-quarantine for the recommended 2 weeks when they get home.

Some interesting findings from a CDC study. Here's the article about it: https://outkick.com/cdc-now-estimate...navirus-cases/

On Friday, in a story that received relatively muted media coverage, the CDC released its latest data on the prevalence of the coronavirus in the country and the results are fairly eye opening, especially for those who haven’t paid much attention to the antibody studies in this country — the CDC now estimates there are ten times as many cases in the United States as our testing has uncovered.

That is, instead of around 2.6 million cases in the country there have actually been 26 million cases.
Here's the actual study if you want to get into the minutiae: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...e=articleShare

This is kind of what I was thinking (and I'm sure many others) about the virus. I'm pretty sure I've had it, being a teacher and having multiple students miss 2+ weeks with the "flu" back in January/February. I've seen the information about what the virus can do to a person's respiratory system even if they're asymptomatic.

I'm still going to be cautious and wear my mask out in public, but I've never really been that worried about myself or my family getting the virus. Our nanny does fall into the at-risk category as she's 74. She's as active as any 70+ year old I've known and is in great shape, but for her benefit my wife and I take our precautions with masks and disinfecting our home for her.

There's just so much seemingly conflicting information out there, it's very difficult to get a grasp of the seriousness of this virus.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

We should all pay closer attention to Hong Kong. They have had fewer than 1200 cases and only 7 deaths and they have not closed their border to China. Most of their cases have been traced to travelers (particularly to the US).

They can't really social distance either as they have a population almost as big as NYC.

I have a friend who lives there and I talked to her a few days ago. Her explanation? "We learned from SARS."

She listed several things that they do and we only do one of them - wear masks. Of course, some of us don't do that, either.

She said they wear splash shields or protective glasses. They will carry a fork in a plastic bag to scratch their face if they have to.

They close the toilet when they flush. They clean their toilets with bleach daily. They pour a bleach solution down all of their drains every night.

They take their shoes off outside, spray the soles with bleach and leave them outside for 20 minutes.

There were a few other things but you get the gist.

I don't know which of these is actually important but they are not getting sick and they are not dying like Americans are. She's not worried about her 13 year old son who is in Dallas, either. Why? "I taught him how to keep himself safe since he was very little."

I've always done the close the toilet lid after use/flush and taking shoes off outside because I don't allow shoes in my house.

Never even thought, or would've thought about the other things. May have to start doing the spraying the soles with bleach before bringing them in. I've always taken them off then use a towel to wipe them down before bringing in and putting in their designated spot by the door.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I wish I could find the video on the Hong Kong Medical Expert, but he was the first one that I noted that explained the virus and transmission clearly.

On another note, Wisconsin is trending upward in positive cases and it's not because of more testing:

                                539 new cases today.

Percent positive up again, to 5.9.

We saw our lowest number of tests in 5 days... so don't think this spike is because of increased testing.

The largest group of infected persons is 20-29 at 22%.
