This is so a person could only have mild systems.
At best it's 50% right now. Basically everyone is also having adverse reactions of varying degrees. The Pharma companies will also be protected so you can't sue them if you still get it or have issues from the vaccine because they didn't test it enough.

Whoever wants to be the first and test it out, be my guest. I won't be getting it quickly. If I'm forced to by work, that will then be their problem if something happens.

I haven't had a flu shot since I was 21 or 22, and it wound up giving me the flu. I have had the flu once or twice in the last 28 years which isn't a bad track record IMO, though I did get pneumonia 7 years ago and I'd just as soon not see that ever again.

as for the covids, I figure if it was going to affect me it would have already done so. I would be stunned if I haven't already been exposed to it and I'm just one of the many, and mostly, that it luckily doesn't affect. I don't see any need for me to get covid vaccinated. maybe as I get into my 70's and by that time (still 20 years away) they'll have plenty time to know how effective vaccines are and how dangerous the side affects are.

but what I really wanted to ask, employers can require a vaccination on something like this?

It will depend. My job generally requires 100% travel, although that may change now. If states require you to quarantine when entering unless you have the vaccine, then you are required to get vaccinated to do your job. If the companies insurance says anyone entering the building has to be vaccinated, then you are required to get vaccinated to do your job.

It will vary by state, but it will probably be similar to traveling to other countries for work. You could be required to get vaccine boosters or additional ones before leaving. If you can work at home, you should be fine. If you can't, you could be forced to get it or sign a waiver that the company and insurance will not cover any expenses.

Eventually we get some kind of a vaccine, and people either decide to get it or they don't, but regardless we go back to the normalcy of individuals deciding what they want to expose themselves to.
We never locked down. We half-assed it and wasted time and tons of resources, only to allow it to get worse.

We wish we could have the problems the EU were having. The point was to flatten the curve to the point outbreaks could be contained by contact tracing. We never even came close to doing that. The EU shows it was possible.

Because we didn’t, schools are ****ed. Universities are going broke, and K-12 is just going to have to be a year or two behind forever.

And in the end, we will end up in a nationwide lockdown. It’s just a matter of how long it takes to reach some sort of critical mass.

As it is, hopefully we will act like a sane country starting next January. Until them we are ****ed. And it’s the fault of every person that acted like the economy and school were so important, but are content to just limp into flu season with with dozens of states out of control, an economy that can’t wake up and schools that can’t open until we reduce cases.

Yeah, we pretend to open. We opened so well that 30 restaurants that have re-opened in St. Louis are now closed because of outbreaks among staff and guests. We just keep doing the same dumb things over and over, while the EU can actually have som sense of normalcy while they fight it and wait for a vaccine.

We are on our way to at least 300K dead. How many would not be worth it?

this might even be part of the first wave. things have been so botched (in some parts of the U.S., not all), I don't believe that first wave truly ended.

It is just one wave. Same with countries in Europe and Asia seeing it go back up. It never dropped low enough to really be the end of a "wave." It was never going to because it's too infectious and countries locking down for 6 months is just not realistic or practical for the actual death rate we are talking about.

I'm sick of the downplaying of the death toll...it's over 50 9/11s. Almost three Vietnams. Nearly halfway to WWII. In SIX MONTHS! Our leadership likes to talk about it being a "war", well, we are losing.

To just dismiss it as "not that bad" or "it is what it is" is maddening. These are real people, with loved ones, friends, family, and they deserve to be seen as more than just the cost of doing business.

That’s exactly what we’re getting: business decisions out of a businessman who has businesspeople at every level of federal government.

A lot of people were going to die no matter who was in charge, totally get that. It’s just really sad to see the lack of respect for the deceased from the decision-makers. Like you said, we’ve got multiple upon multiple amount of casualties that we’ve had for wars or acts of terror. We dignify those people when we speak of them. Writing off 150k people with the wave of a hand is downright cruel. Damn.

We really shouldn't be surprised. History is filled with groups of humans determining the value of other groups of humans - often involving their deaths (or outright killing).

                      All lives matter, though, right?

Interesting take from a NBA Owners Son commenting on the NBA has been efficient with Covid:

The NBA is showing how it is possible to combat this virus...testing, strict quarantine guidelines, and masks. Amazing what happens when you listen to health professionals on how to fight a health crisis

I don't think you can compare what the NBA has the luxury to do to versus the US as a whole.

the thing that's hard to accept is the overall death rate is on par with other recent years. so many have died just in the U.S. from covid, and heart related deaths are down, diabetes, asthma, lung cancer deaths are down, as well as natural causes deaths in the over 75 population are down. all the things that make people susceptible to corona are down. I think if we counted corona deaths as corona deaths and whatever other ailment that made them susceptible should count as a death from that too. maybe then those who dismiss it not that bad or it is what it is will realise just how devastating things have been since February/March. with one type of death (even a new one like covid) replacing another type death, too many people are accepting covid deaths as part of a new normal, but what it really is, is the new abnormal

I used to think the day Americans had to wear face coverings it would be because the taliban had wormed it way in here. I never in my life imagined it would be because to actually help us. strange times indeed, it's almost like we're in a bad Twilight Zone episode
