I agree that the terminology will probably be misused by most laypeople.

But, for there to be so many strains, you'd have to assume that the genetic code of the virus is mutating. I have seen articles mentioning "at least 8 strains" so that would be consistent with what jb ws saying.

Trust me, I’m right in the middle of this at the epicenter. I wouldn’t spread nonsense.

I just plead that everyone stays home. The hospitals here in the city look like something out of a MASH episode.

I was off work Wednesday and Thursday stayed home from work today was supposed to work today. Staying home tomorrow now has i was told when i called in for work today Friday that i should call back before maybe coming into work sat has i am not 100% sure what the protocol is right now for going into work. So i called them tonight and let them now that i have not had a fever for like 48 hours but that my cough has gotten worse and asked them if they think i should stay home tomorrow sat and they said yeah. So 4th day in a row being home 2 days off and now tomorrow will be second day staying home from work. Still no chest pain or trouble breathing mostly just a cough. 30 people in my county now have the virus was like 21 like 2-3 days ago. Not sure how many in my town but i did hear one of the high school teachers at one of the schools in my town just test positive for it like yesterday Thursday.
Sounds like just the progression of an upper respiratory cold to a chest cold. Used to happen to me all the time when I got a bad cold. Is your cough productive or dry? If productive then it's not coronavirus.

Looks like there's a major phone call happening later on with the president and the commish of the major sports leagues, among others.

The obvious names like Adam Silver, Rob Manfred, Roger Goodell, Gary Bettman, but also names like Dana White and Vince McMahon.

        Yes, you heard that right.

I'm guessing he's going to encourage them not to cancel their seasons. There were reports the NBA is starting to plan for a cancellation.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall during that conversation. There are some pretty diverse, opinionated people in that group.

We went to a live / online / facebook live. We don't do music. Since we've shut down our groups/classes as well, I start at 11 am with a lesson and then we close with communion (and then after it's done I take the link and also create a YouTube file that can be shared - for those who don't have facebook, which are some of our elderly).

What that guy did in Florida was not martyrdom - it was utter stupidity. I have read the Bible in its entirety now going on my 19th time in the last 10 years. I don't say that to brag, but I recognize that if I'm going to talk about something often, I need to know what I'm talking about. I'm not a loon - I don't get all wacko about things, and I also believe that culture & life has a lot to say about why people lived the way they did. But that aside... there are passages where it speaks of the critical nature of meeting together. there are passages that speak of deep respect for the government leader (in Romans 13, for example). it's not an "either/or" thing - it's "and/both". So we complied...

We are still "together" just not in the same building (which they're overrated and costly, in my opinion). We are keeping people safe. We are respecting what's asked, and doing our part. There is a verse (paraphrasing) where it says if you're mocked, don't let be because you're stupid (again, loose paraphrase). Well, that's what churches are doing who choose to stay open. It's not bravery or hyper-spirituality - it's selfish and wrong.

And here is what I love - we're looking at the numbers and have discovered we're reaching 3 times as many people by doing this. What I hope is people will now see how much they truly do crave interraction with others. And also to not take those things we do daily and routinely for granted.

(I was careful here in my answer as not to offend or break any rules - but I don't feel I could properly answer the question from all angles of this without at least framing my comments in how I did. Thanks).

I wonder if WWE and UFC were brought in because they also share similar venues.

Or because both were running events with no fans and still managed decent TV numbers.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

I don't want anyone to do anything rash, but I think if there is a way to test players and staff(without impacting testing in general public) and sports can come back in some capacity (i.e. empty stadiums) it should be done.

I realize this is probably an unpopular opinion, and I am not advocating for doing so if there is active COVID-19 cases among players in sports leagues. I just think if there is a way to do SOMETHING with sports without increased risk to those involved that it would be a huge morale boost to the country.

There is such a level of panic and hysteria out there right now, I think seeing sports in some capacity would really help from a mental and emotional standpoint.

And again, I am not advocating doing this unless it can be done safely and without protecting players and staff. I just think it is worth exploring the option because of the morale boost it could bring.

Doing it in a way that is based on safety is so critical though because if you were to play games in empty stadiums and then have to stop again because people started testing positive it would have the reverse effect on morale.

I still find it difficult to believe that professional sports are coming back anytime soon, even without fans. Unless there's easy-to-use, near-instantaneous, 100% accurate testing, (and even with it, to be honest) athletes would have completely sequestered for months on end (ie, "the entire NBA playoffs in Vegas" plan). One player out of a thousand sneaks out of quarantine, gets infected, then tests positive, and the whole thing would have to be shut down again for a couple weeks at minimum. What about athletes who've undergone cancer treatments or have otherwise compromised immune systems? Do they just sit out the next year or two? Are they still getting paid?

Won't surprise me at all if one of the leagues tries to come back too soon (billions in TV revenue are at stake, though I'm sure "public morale" will be trotted out for PR reasons). But any false steps, and it'll be all shut down again. If someone young, healthy, and famous actually dies from this (or even has a major scare, put on a ventilator, etc.), then forget about it.

Don't disagree with any of this. And I'm not even suggesting leagues try and come back now. But June/July? Too early to rule it out in my opinion.

As I said, I think there are huge mental and emotional benefits to being able to bring sports back. But it absolutely needs to be done the right way for all the reasons you mention. I am not advocating otherwise.

There isn't anyone who wants sports back more than a Milwaukee Bucks fan. Hearing the NBA is strongly considering cancelling their season like China's professional basketball league is very frustrating and concerning. The Bucks might have been in the finals this season and that is once in a blue moon for the Bucks and their fans. I'm willing to wager that opposing teams employees (trainers, sportscasters, etc....) wouldn't want to travel to NY to play the NY teams now or in June or July, just my opinion. You couldn't pay me to travel to NY in the near future. There are sports fans like my wife who won't watch one game on TV, but prefer to be in attendance at a stadium.

In addition, I don't know if LeBron has changed his tune, but before they put the NBA season on hold, LeBron said, he won't play in empty stadiums. He said he plays for his team and the fans. If one of the main draws to filling up NBA arenas states that, that carries a lot of weight.

Plus, there are people that just don't like sports period and will start wanting movie theaters to start opening and other avenues of entertainment.

I know you are not advocating for this to happen and I fully understand where you are coming from and agree with your sentiment.

A dry cough is one that doesn't produce anything so if you aren't coughing up phlegm or can't feel stuff moving around in your bronchial passages when you cough/breathe then it's a dry cough.

Let’s see what happens over the next 6 months before we talk about sports returning.

I’m dreading the first warm day here. People aren’t going to stay inside, and NYPD enforcement is going to be an issue on many levels.

How's that oxygen level looking CB? Hopefully in the high 90s.

As I said, I think there are huge mental and emotional benefits to being able to bring sports back. But it absolutely needs to be done the right way for all the reasons you mention. I am not advocating otherwise.

I mean, if we really are 12-18 months away from a vaccine, then we're probably done with sports for the rest of the year.
