Plus, this would be around the same time that the "normal flu" starts to ramp up. That is why some university's in the area are considering the 1st semester will end at Thanksgiving.

Adding- State of Wisconsin had more that 1000 test positive yesterday, another record. The positive rate is 7.7%.

The State Dept Public of Health person is pleading with people in the state to wear mask when you can't social distance. She said in March and April, the infection rate was somewhere between 3 to 5 people with the Safe at Home Order.

Now, with people moving around more, the infection rate is 15 to 20 people.

The thing that the anti-mask people that I've spoken with miss is- you can be totally non-symptomatic and spread the virus.

"I'm not sick so I don't need to wear a mask" is BS because you don't know that. Your symptoms could show up tomorrow, or in the next 2 weeks. Or maybe never.

Wear a mask to slow the spread. Slow the spread so that if you or someone you DO care about needs a hospital bed, its available and not over-run with people; as we are starting to see in some places.

      This is pretty uncomplicated.

My question is how many people wearing masks is enough? Will we know it when we reach that threshold? Up until now all we've heard is we're not doing it enough.

              How many people = Everyone

Will we know it when we reach that threshold = When people stop getting the virus.

the problem is people with the covids are throwing their mask on, then going out & about business as usual. I suspect many of them know they're carriers but just figure everyone else will be okay because they are masked up. truth is we are still free-falling and haven't hit rock bottom yet. right now we're worse off than we were in March. I don't believe it's the end of the world but I do believe too many of us are like the addict who isn't ready to admit they have a problem. so, we're not beating this virus with just masks and social distancing. eventually we'll realise we have to FULLY identify all the spreaders. which even with a ****tonne of testing we aren't anywhere close to quarantining the right amount of people. neither do I believe we are ready to do such a thing. presently we are seemingly going to keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results. we are in a marathon and we aren't even in mile 4 yet IMO

^^ Just to add context for those that may not know or may be appalled this is just now happening, wearing masks has always been required on Southwest and most airlines for that matter.

The only change now is they will not allow medical exemptions for people unable to wear a mask.

Oh they will get sued for ADA reasons, I'm sure they've planned for it.

Most suits I've seen around here for the same thing haven't had success though because the business has been able to prove they've provided alternate accommodations to be compliant. Not sure what their defense will be but I'm sure it will happen.

Yeah ADA was what I was thinking. Guess we will see what happens.

Pretty good article on the whole reinfection thing we hear about every few weeks or so. Basically, it's still too early, but it's a pretty huge leap, based on what we know, to go the doom and gloom route regarding antibodies and lack of immunity after infection.

A British study showing quick antibody fall off after just months was hyped by quite a few major news outlets. But there was another study showing antibodies holding up well, and actually strengthening over time. Also, they are other processes at work besides just antibodies that protect us from reinfection, or help us fight them off easier the second time down the road.

Vagueness and fear sells for the media because it becomes an endless loop of being worried, craving information, being fed, being worried again, etc. So there's really no downside for them to push some of these rare anecdotal cases without a ton of context.

I was asked the other day from Master Live why I keep posting about communism/dictatorship type areas that are controlling the virus better than we are.

I didn't do justice in simplifying what I was aiming for. Of course, people from democracy led countries like the US don't want to live in those areas.

It was better explained by Dan Rather just recently:

I desperately hope we get a vaccine. I desperately hope we get better therapeutics. But all you have to do is look around at other parts of the world and realize that there are tools for controlling this virus. It just requires not acting like a tool. Wear a mask!

The mask debate has worn out it's welcome, but I do like the line about look at other parts of the world and know there are tools for controlling the virus.
