Re: *The FIFA 16 Manager Mode Thread*

Started my first Leeds career for 3 years on FIFA 16

(World Class, custom sliders, 6 min halves)

The first season went pretty well, finishing 4th, but losing a playoff semi to Hull meant another year in the championship.

2016-17 saw the return of Aaron Lennon to Elland Road and an FA Cup Semi-Final defeat to Newcastle. League form was very poor however, and I was probably lucky to escape the sack after finishing 10th.

The following summer saw some excellent dealings in the transfer market, and Leeds are now equipped with a team that can surely fight for automatic promotion.

The current team as of September 2017:

    GK: Fraser Forster - 77
    LB: Charlie Taylor - 73
    CB: Steven Caulker - 77
    CB: Liam Moore - 76
    RB: Sam Byram - 76
    CDM: Lewis Cook - 73
    CDM: James Ward-Prowse - 74
    LM: Marko Arnautovic - 82
    RM: Nathan Redmond - 77
    CAM: Alex Mowatt - 74
    ST: Steven Fletcher - 75

    Typical Bench:

    Gianluca Curci (GK, 73)
    Liam Cooper (CB, 74)
    Gaetano Berardi (RB, 73)
    Iver Fossum (CM, 73)
    Stuart Dallas (LW, 72)
    Chris Wood (ST, 72)
    Souleymane Doukara (ST, 67)

York City have great kits...but the home kit looks a bit pink...but Peterboroughs kits are neat!...

For some reason i dont think the patch is available in Australia, so I'm holding off!

Arsenal shutout Liverpool 2-0, to remain a perfect 3/3 in BPL play.

I host Hull midweek in Round 2 of the Capital One Cup, then off to Newcastle before the first International Break.

Has anyone noticed players that they have promoted from the youth academy and have trained trained them, that their speed shows +2 (or whatever) but their actual speed rating hasn't increased?

I can't prove it out but its beginning to look to me like players I've promoted and trained show an increase in speed but don't actually increase. I haven't paid close enough attention to know for sure.

For example, a winger of mine had +5 spd last season (rated 75 spd), this season is showing +2 spd (still rated 75 spd). Seems to correlate with the agility rating increase through training.

However, I do have players I promoted that have increased spd this season. I just started training one of them so I am anxious to see if his speed continues to increase as it has already gone up 2 this season.

Coming to the business end of my first season as Manager of York City, sitting in 6th place, with Northampton right on my tail and Exeter City a few games back!.
Vadaine Oliver has had a great season so far scoring 19 goals, and coming 2nd in league 2 Top Scorers with 17 goals...

9 games to go in Season 1 and in contention for a promotion!, Niclas Eliasson hasn't quite been the difference maker i thought he would be on the RW and won't be signing him after his loan deal has expired, tho Jack Baldwin has been a solid pick up!

As newly appointed Manager of Peterborough United, my first duty was to decide to participate in a pre-season tournament, I decided to stay local and avoid tournaments in Denmark and Sweden and enter the Invitational cup in England.

The first match was against Cambridge United, a struggling team in League 2, 20 year old LB Callum Elder found the back of the net in his first start for Peterborough United with a stunning goal from outside the box!.Jermaine Anderson scored his first goal for the season in the second half beating the keeper in a 1 on 1 putting Peterborough up 2-0.

Next match in our Invitational cup tournament is against Bristol City Rovers!. I will most likely leave Callum Elder in the starting squad, as LB Kgosi Ntlhe has still not re-signed with us beyond next season, I am hoping to get that deal done before the season starts!

2018 February, March and April Update

Well, I've been waiting to make these updates because I have been having issues with my internet at home, giving me issues uploading. Its crazy slow, and constantly having drops. And I have a big backlog no, so not going to do any images or video. Just text, sorry.

So in February we opened with a 2-1 win at home against Hamburger, followed up by a 2-1 loss away to Schalke. Then drawing 2-2 and winning our last two. Overall going 3-1-1 in league play. Pretty good month. We also played in the round of 32 in the Europa League, two legs with Olympique de Marseille. Which turned out be crazy games. We won the first leg at home 4-1. Finne messed around and scored a hat trick, and Marseille had two players sent off on direct reds. Then in the second leg we drew 2-2. Advancing 6-3 on aggregate. So a really good month for us overall. We finished the month still in 6th place on the table however.

Then in March it started to fall apart for us in league play. We first drew with Hoffenhiem 1-1, then lost at home to Bayern Munich 0-5. Followed that up with an away draw against struggling BVB 2-2. And ended the month with a 1-0 loss away to Werder Bremen. So 0-2-2 in league play for the month. Which dropped us down to 8th on the table. Putting us 9 points back on the 6th placed team with 6 games left to play in league. And we have rough schedule coming up. Also in March we played in round of 16 for Europa League against Olympiakos CFP. In the first leg we lost away 1-0, but pulled off a crazy win at home in the second 3-1, advancing 3-2 on aggregate. However in the quarters we face off against a rising Liverpool. We are the heavy under dogs.

Then to open up April we lose away again, followed by a home loss. We are now in 9th on the table, 11-6-13 on the season, with 4 games to go. 10 points back on 6th place. If we lose out I will still meat the boards goal of mid table. I can't fall below 12th. However, we have a few easy games coming up, as long as I can get the team turned around. I'm so sure we can qualify for Euro next year though. That seems like we need to much to go in our favour that is out of our control.

We also lost both games to Liverpool 2-1. It was never really a contest in either game. We scored both our goals so late in the games we never really had a chance. So we in our first ever Europa League we made it to the quarter finals. An amazing task . However it came at the cost of our league season. And we are going to fail to make it back. Plus we lost in the second round of the domestic cup.

Four games to go, Augsburg (17th) away, Hertha Berlin (5th) home, Bayer (4th) home and last game of the season Hannover 96 (16) away.

100% certain we can't climb to 6th. And I feel I have taken this team as far as I can take them. I wont get fired, the board is happy. But I feel I would just be stuck in this cycle. Get back to Europe next season, then lose out to a good team, and fail to get back that season, rinse and repeat. Its hard to bring great players in, and once I train players up they feel they are too big for the team and demand to leave. So..

Since other teams have shown interest in acquiring me throughout the season. I sent my application out to two teams looking for a new manager. And I still regret turning down the Leicester city job. West Brom and Real Valladolid. RV was 19th on their table and in trouble of relegation. WB also in 19th and in trouble of relegation. Valladolid turned me down. But West Brom offered me the job. Offering more than double what I make now. With the challenge of having 5 games left in the BPL and being 8 points back on 17th. The spot needed to avoid relegation. And that is what they are asking, avoid relegation. So ...

I'm still thinking about it. I mean I'm probably going to take it. The only other job openings I could get are Bournemouth which I don't want as I've done them the last two years and I'll probably start as them at some point also. And the bottom three teams in the Bundesliga, which would put me in the same spot I am at with Union Berlin. So I'm probably going to take the West Brom job. I'll look over their team and their remaining schedule and see.

EDIT: So I took the West Brom job. Probably going to get fired for not avoiding relegation, but that is the risk I am taking. Just want to make a note that I played 134 games with Union Berlin. With a record of 68-23-43. Scoring 211 gaols and having 166 against.

I love these purchases. Great buys. I especially love the Gomis buy. He is older now and declining a bit, but I love playing with him. And I was disappointed to see when I took over WB that they had already sold Berahino.

Thanks for the kind words, ZO. I plan on catching up with your Career Mode ASAP so I can give you some input. I plan on at the very least posting monthly updates with the focus being on making the format easy to read. But when I have the time I will post more. I still have plenty of money to spend so feel free to drop a line. I don't have a huge depth of knowledge on players so some direction would be very welcomed.

                            2018 Final Season Update
                            Will we be relegated?

So after taking this job close to the end of the season, I only have a short time to turn this team around. I have to avoid relegation. 8 points back on Norwich with 5 games to play. If I fail to do so, I might just be the shortest tenured manager this team has ever seen.

First off, their roster is all sorts of wacky when I take over. They have 8 goalkeepers. Why would any team have 8 goalkeepers. The previous manager had also not been playing his best players. They were all sitting on the bench. And checking their games played, they didn't play much all season. So that is the first thing I did was re organize the starting eleven. Then I started listing some of these goalkeepers for loan or sale.

Then to the games! First up was Spurs at home. We got lucky in this game. Pulling off the 1-0 upset from a 90'+2 penalty. After the game everyone was telling me I've started to make a difference already. Then next up was Swansea away. It was a great game, that ended up in our favour once a gain. Winning 2-1. Two games in and two wins. Its looking like I might just pull this off. We are now just 4 points back on 18th, which is Bournemouth. And Norwich won this week, so we are 5 points back on them. 3 games to go. We have to win out!

Now its May, and our first game up is home against Arsenal. This game. This damn game. It was brutal. A dirty brutal cage fight. It ended up a draw, 2-2. But in the last 10 minutes of the game it was 9 v 9. It was the most gruelling draw I have ever played. Both of us almost won it in the last couple minutes. So it seemed like our season was done. The team would be relegated and I would most likely be fired. But wait, Bournemouth and and Norwich both lost! Their is still hope! Now down 3 points to Bournemouth, and 4 points to Norwich. With two games left. And guess what. Those are my last two opponents. This feels scripted, and amazing. And I love it! I want to play me in the movie.

So first up Bournemouth at home. We scored early 8th minute, off an amazing free kick from 46 yards out. Then after almost giving up a couple goals before half time, I brought the team out in a 6-4-0. And proceeded to park the bus for 48 minutes. We ended up winning 1-0. The fans were booing at first, but after 15 minutes or so they were mocking the Bournemouth players and singing how great our team was for stopping so many chances. After beating them, we now moved up to 18th ahead of them on GD. Tied at 28 points, we only had -20, while they had -25, lol. And with Norwich drawing Everton, we are now 2 points behind them, and we play them next away.

So this is it, winner take all. Well, not really. The winner doesn't get relegated. The loser does. If we draw, we get relegated and I most likely get fired. So this game is stacked in Norwich's favour. They are at home, and two of three possible results help them. All they really have to do is come out defensively and play for the draw. Which they don't do. They come out guns blazing on the attack and score right away. Going up 1-0 in the 5th minute. We don't give up that easily though, drawing it level just 10 minutes later. Then after half time we scored from a corner to take the lead 1-2. This is amazing, we are going to do it. Oh no! Norwich scores in 71st minute to draw it level at 2-2 again. No! I can feel the ship sinking. And I think its on fire because I smell smoke. This is horrible. Okay, well. If I am going down, I might as well give these two old vets who are retiring a last run before they go. Since it is their last games.

So in the 75th minute I sub in Rickie Lambert. A man who is 36 years old. A man who hasn't scored all season. A man who has declined in form so bad this season the old manager refused to let him see the pitch even once. A man who has no business being on the pitch in this type of game. The fate of this entire team and this manager on his shoulders. And he goes out there and scores a goal in the 88th minute like there is no pressure on him what so ever. Like he didn't know it was a big deal. This man, nay, this legend places a beautiful side foot to the left of the keeper in the lower right corner off a keeper deflection from his own shot. Picks up the ball and runs it back to midfield to start the kick-off. Doesn't even celebrate. Acts like its just another day at the ****ing office. Meanwhile the world is exploding around him. Norwich fans are booing and throwing garbage onto the field. His teammates are running after him and yelling and jumping up and down. I am screaming and pumping my arms in the air. And this man is standing in midfield like what, whats the big deal. I'm just doing my job. You ****ing beautiful man you.

And that was the game winner. We won 2-3. We moved into 17th to avoid relegation by one point. All due to a man I will do everything in my power to convince not to retire. Even if he is just a super sub and a mascot. This legend of a man should give it one more year. And holy crap what an amazing set of games. That was one of the best moments I've had playing FIFA. I'm so pumped to keep playing as this team now. That was just so much fun, and exhilarating.

Oh, and up next is the 2018 World Cup with Northern Ireland. We have one hell of a group too. Netherlands, Russia and Uruguay! yikes. We are by far the weakest team in the group. And it be a very daunting task to get out of group.

Awesome dude. I hope I am able to achieve that sort of longevity with Arsenal.

Didn't progress any in my MM this weekend, as I was 'fooling' with sliders (and wrapped up in college/NFL...).

Really want to settle on fair, yet challenging sliders and just be done with it TBH...
