Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
for my fellow NA players, have any of you been able to win our "treble"? (MLS Cup, USOC, CCL) I'm doing ok so far but the fixture congestion and fatigue is really setting in for my squad given the extreme restrictions and salary cap issues we have to deal with in MLS.
Currently sitting in second place in league play, advanced to the final in the USOC vs Colorado next month, and just won my aggregate preliminary CCL match vs Joe Public, so I'll be starting group play shortly. Been having to get pretty creative with my roster and play a few players out of their natural spots to survive. Hoping to go all the way in my first year.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Hm. John Henry didn't like my 4 match losing streak to start the 2011-2012 season and sitting in 14th through 11 matches, so I've been fired from Liverpool.
Kind of disappointed since we were 3-0 in the Champions League and in complete control of the group. I kind of wanted to see where that was going.
Time to hit the pavement.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Arsenal save underway. I'm going to focus solely on signing youngsters and developing Wilshere and Ramsey over this save. I'm also wanting to develop some English talent as I also plan to manage the National Team at some point. Also going to add to my backroom staff. My transfer targets:
Alphonse Areola (GK)
Phil Jones (DC)
Connor Wickham (ST)
Jordan Spence (DC)
Arsenal in the game don't need a lot. Plus, I'd like to further develop the current youths. If nothing else, I can establish some good utility guys through this approach. The goal is to build a solid team blend and watching my young players go through the ranks. This is obviously subject to change, but I'm looking forward to see how I do with minimal signings and a policy to slowly build and maintainComment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I'm starting anew from the beginning. Getting bounced out before the group stage of Europa in the first season left a bad taste in my mouth. Hopefully I can stick for a few seasons this time.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Well...my save can't be loaded.
I guess that plan is finished for now. I don't have it in me to do that whole season over again.
To anyone considering it (it's basically the same thing as can be found in jaa's thread in these forums.) I recommend it. It was a lot of fun.
Time to meditate on my next idea for a save.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Might as well update.
I had to reinstall windows because it started to mess up and I decided to just wipe the slate clean.
I decided to load up all of Europe's leagues in the default database down to their lowest levels and started as Poland's national team manager.
Had 4 friendlies in my 1st season: wins over Cameroon (2-1), Australia (2-0), and Ecuador (2-1) as well as a loss to the Ivory Coast (2-1).
We are cohosts of the Euro Championship so we did not have to play any qualifiers.COYBComment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Well I started a Leeds save with the Demo because was curious to know if my laptop could handle the 3D match engine since the upgrades.
Drew first friendly against Burnely 1-1, but second friendly was a shocker.
I defeated OM and even got some praise from their manager. A nice touch!Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
In my Final Friendly before the season begins I face Aston Villa. The Press doesn't give me a chance, and to be honest it's been a rough preseason for the boys from Leeds.
At Half, trailing 0-2, I Substitute Mike Grella for Ross McCormack. Turned out to be the move of the match.
And I started off the season on the right foot with a win. Really wished I could have avoided that red card, but the boys never gave up:

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
finished my first season with LA. Totally crashed and burned after such a good start. The fixture congestion was just too much to overcome given our roster and salary rules.
Got booted in the western final by RSL. Got destroyed by Colorado in the USOC final and didn't make it out of the CCL group stage. I was even getting rumors of being sacked and players unhappy.
Winning the north American treble is gonna be very difficult.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Almost the end of my first season at Philly, started out rough but after a few signings, the accidental release of Le Toux/Coudet, and our wonderman Kandji, we made it to the playoffs.

What skin are you using? It's pretty nice. Question - how have you all fared developing young players? Are you giving them reserve matches, loaning them out etc etc?Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I just won the FA Cup on penalties in my second Liverpool save start. I almost passed out a few times towards the end and during the shootout. Full season update to come later.Comment
