When you're a bottom feeder, playing one of the top teams in the league.... Make a tactical change, and it works to perfection....

Going to try a 3-5-2 tactic later tonight before the USA match. Never played with wing backs before. Always been a 4-2-3-1 guy.

I love playing three at the back, I've had major issues filling the Wide Midfielder/Wing Back roles though, I basically have to wait for my academy to start churning out players.

I find it off-putting how many times a team will play it's reserve/second squad against me in the continental competitions. It makes my run feel ****ty, and less realistic. We're in the Quarter Finals of the Europa League, I don't think there is a chance RB Leipzig leaves their starting centrebacks, starting wingers, starting goalkeeper, and top goalscorer out, playing away to Viborg with 1-0 lead. But here I am, going to the semi-final of the Europa League in my fourth year.

Of note, Liverpool did this in the UCL Group Stage, SLB in the UCL Group Stage, Spurs in both legs of the 2nd Knockout Round, and Leipzig here in the second leg of the QF.

Edit: After a surprise win at home, Lazio fielded ONE player over the age of 22 against me, and we went through to final vs Dortmund.

Is there a big 'upgrade' over the summer/off season for player growth like in other games? Or do the players just continue to progress/regress per usual?

So I lost 2-0 away to Watford with the new tactic. Next match is away at United.

Finally made it back to the CL, and got to face the Liverpool, who I sold my GK to because he wanted to move to a bigger team.

/feelsgoodman, I'm still mad he picked Italy over us for the National Team.

Although I would love him back on my team, he was supposed to lead us to all the major trophies as a homegrown player.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Ended up in Sweden, managing FC Hollviken in Division I Sodra. The season was 2/3 of the way done and the goal was to bravely fight against relegation. Went 3-3-8 and got relegated on the last day of the season.

But the board gave me a new contract (and a $8,000 pay raise) as I look to rebuild this squad in my image in Division 2. The squad has some decent talent, but absolutely zero depth. I've filled out my backroom staff (which was nonexistent when I took over). Now I need to figure out players.

Also trying a new formation. I've been running a 2-3-2-3 possession tactic, but with this save, I'm running a 4-3-1-2 Narrow.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Going into the transfer period, I was facing a few issues. One, we're broke. Two, most of my team was on expiring contracts. And three, because we got relegated, nobody wanted to re-sign with the club.

We went into the transfer period with three players under contract.

Scouring the free transfer market for anybody, I was able to piece together a makeshift squad. The media is picking us to finish dead last. The board wants us to bravely fight against relegation. We sold 23 season ticket packages. I mean, they love this club! Will we suffer the awesomeness that is back-to-back relegations?

The season started off well enough. In our first five matches, we won three. The next 15 matches, we only won three matches and now we are in a pitched relegation battle.

But we never did fully drop into the relegation zone. Plus, we started playing better football down the stretch. We guaranteed safety with one match to go in the season, and by ending the year on a three game winning streak, we finished 10th with 33 points from 26 matches.

And hey, we improved our average attendance from 61 to 75. So we've got that going for us. That, and the bank hasn't served us papers yet for being in the hole, despite me only using half of the allotted payroll budget. And I'll actually have several players under contract going into next season.

Maybe we can make that serious push in Year 3 of this experiment.

Does this mean I need to sell 36.06M worth of players in order to be compliant?

I believe that is in reference to your payroll, or weekly wages. Did you sign a bunch of high salary players in the offseason?

It looks like you're spending 3.93m/week on wages, when 3.23m/week is all that is allowed.

                                3.93m - 3.23m = 0.7m
                                0.7m x 52 weeks = 36.4m

So I think in this context, you'd need to shed roughly 500k/week in payroll to be compliant. Although, my wage budget has gotten high like that, where they project that I will fail FFP, and I have gotten by with nothing happening.
