I think it's best to do it how you think you'll enjoy it the most. Ultimately I found the additional levels(at least anything beyond 9) to not be as challenging as I normally like, I didn't have to do much in the way of preparation, it was just play the match and go up. However if there is a team you'd like to bring up, then it makes perfect sense to go through that arduous task. The biggest challenge, the lower you go, is always the finances.

Good deal. Think I'm going to roll with a team from the National League, and load up just the UK leagues too.

Doesn't seem to be much point in adding other leagues until I get a bit more relevant.

I've taken a liking to Orient for some reason. May wind up rolling with them.

Wait, how do you do scouting yourself? There's a way to spot besides assigning your scouts to players to get reports on them?

Trials. Have them come in on a trial so you can get the full picture. Because lower level scouts are **** and never give you a full picture of the player. That way you can see their full potential, weaknesses etc based on you and your assistants opinion. I go player searching for non contract players and offer them them all trials.

I started an unemployed save over the weekend and ended up at Clyde in the 4th tier in Scotland. My god what a wasteland... How they've convinced David Goodwillie to play there IRL is beyond me.

But anyway, scouting is absolutely dire at the lower levels if you have attribute masking on. I don't even know if I can continue like this. My 2-man scouting staff is doing their best, but you don't really get much info at all.

Which I guess is pretty realistic to be honest. I'm not even paying one of the guys, lol.

I've decided to forge ahead and we've been getting some decent results. I've seen a couple hilarious mistakes that you get from the quality of player that's on £120/week. Can't even be mad about them doing things like passing the ball off a teammate's butt that turns into a through ball the other way. Just throw your hands up.

Was lucky enough to have a solid experienced midfielder approach me to say he was available. Trialed him and signed him up. Right into the starting XI and he scored on his home debut. I like that you can play trialists in league matches in this league.

I am going to need to cull some leagues out of the save for speed purposes in the transfer windows. Wanted to have all of my options open to start, so I loaded basically everything.

Not sure how long I'll stay in Scotland since I don't think this club can pay for my first coaching badges, but at least the manager I created for this save is learning English! (I made him German)

Well the take over hit the rocks. But at the end of it the old guy pumped 70K into the club, which was pointless since we were ~400K in the red.

I then made some very iffy financial choices. Ones that could either sink the club or save the club.

We actually had a title race this year too.


And our end of the season run was pretty bad. I did sell our star striker in January (the 20th) for 120K + addons. And it showed in the second half of the season. 6-2-6 post his sale. The younger guy I thought could step in hasn't panned out yet. And we did need the money.


But we managed to pull it off because Ebbsfleet and Stevenage also had bad ends to the season. Which saw Wrexham shoot up the table. And win the playoffs.


So we will be playing in League 2 next season. And I think this is where we will stagnate for a couple of seasons.

Oh, back to the iffy finical choices I made. I signed three failed (released) youth prospects from premier league clubs. On wages we couldn't afford. In hopes that they would helps us get promoted and be able to sell them for good money the following summer. Well, they came through on the first part.

And this beautiful son of a bitch just came through on the second part.


I actually wish I could hold on to him, but I can't pass up the money. I had to offer this guy the world to sign him. Key player, high wages, crazy wage hikes and bonuses. Use the club as a stepping stone, get promoted, favorite position, etc etc. I think it was like 7 or 8 promises I had to make. Then after promotion I renewed his contract to get rid of the 400K release clause, increasing his wages and making even more stupid promises. I'm just glad it payed off. Otherwise I'd be fired for getting the club into admin.

As soon as this goes through we will be in the black, ~750K in the black. And I'll lose those ludicrous wages. I'm also working on trying to get 900k+ from one of the other guys. Hes on 2.9K a week. But I might have to settle for less. Or just keep him now that I got so much for Moore. I have a lot to think about in terms of what to do with the squad as I only have 18 days left before the window closes. And I haven't made any moves.

Also I now have to force myself to stop instant resulting half the season now that I'm in the league system. And actually play every game. Which means no more 1-2 day seasons.

I'm seeing how much of a luxury it is to have strong team leaders. None of my players are at the top level of leadership. So you have to handle every single complaint yourself. I miss James Milner.

You know what else is nice if you have great dressing room atmosphere, and an influential player asks to leave. You can say something stupid like "are you sure you want to leave, the dressing atmosphere here is really nice". And they always respond "you're right boss, it is really nice, I don't want to leave that". And that is the end of that. Which is super dumb, but I love it.

No, I don't think I've had a situation where talking about the group status has come up. Or maybe I just didn't pay attention to all the options. Sometimes there is like 15 of them.

You can say something stupid like "are you sure you want to leave, the dressing atmosphere here is really nice". And they always respond "you're right boss, it is really nice, I don't want to leave that". And that is the end of that. Which is super dumb, but I love it.

I wish. I've never been able to get any social status/dressing room atmosphere pitch to work. However having fostered team leadership has created a monster to deal with if a player wants to leave.
