Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I've lost so much managerial support after gaining promotion to the 2. Bundesliga, and the announcement of the new stadium.
Turns out it took money from our bottom line immediately, AND we have another loan to pay off (33m), so our loan payments right now are right around 450k/month, meaning players had to go. Got some decent money, but between a slashed wage budget, no transfer budget, we're going to be heavily reliant upon youth to stay up and keep afloat now.
Thankfully based Bobby Wood came through and moved to Leicester, netting us a cool 500k in solidarity payments.Support Local Sports

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
We were on a great run. Beat a Championship team in the Scottish Cup 3-0 away. Sitting in 3rd place, 3 off the top. Everyone's happy. Annnnnd both strikers get injured for a month, we go 0-2-7 in the next 9, players are blatantly quitting during matches, the board demands 8 points from the next 5. I don't even like anyone at this club, so I resign from Clyde.
FM baby.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Applied around a bit and have been offered the job at Darlington in England, National League North. I delayed my response for a week because I wanted the Las Palmas B job. I wanted to go there to learn Spanish and because since they're backed by a La Liga side, I'd be able to start taking coaching courses. Didn't get that job, so just waiting out the few days before I accept the Darlington post.
They are sitting one point out of the playoffs after a winless streak. The expectation is to make the playoff. They have one match before I take charge on February 6th.
Of all the open jobs that I applied for, I really wanted Catania who are in the 3rd tier in Italy. Would have been fun to try and get them back up to Serie A. But their reputation is too high for me at this point and I didn't even get an interview.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 01-13-2018, 09:14 PM.Comment

Well this season is going terrible. I might actually get fired. This is crazy. Sitting one spot above the relegation zone at Christmas. Was asked to finish mid table, which was unrealistic. And even though I've gotten 5 back to back promotions, my job is insecure. If I get fired I'm going to go postal.

Started a save as a Sunday league reputation manager w/no badges. I picked Berliner FC Dynamo in the 4th tier of Germany. Halfway through the season and I'm doing alright.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I went back and forth on the decision for a while in my Journeyman save, but ultimately I decided to leave Trinec in my Journeyman save. I really hope I've set them up well enough to stay up in the first division, because it would mean a lot to that club. I'll be following them close this year.
But ultimately, on a career level, I knew that I had to leave there at some point, the club essentially needs years to recover from the financial state they are in, and I'd like to think that I helped them by getting them to a position where they can bring in more money and have some stability.
After applying for several jobs, I got 3 interviews and 2 offers. I ended up deciding on...
Platanias FC in the Greek 1st division!
When I got the offer, I was excited about it. The Greek league is ranked 11th in the world, as far as reputation, so it's a big step up, and should be a challenge.
The club's history:
I was intrigued by the story here, they had been in the Greek 4th division, and then suddenly won 3 promotions in 4 years. They had a few solid mid-table seasons, but the last 3 years they have been towards the bottom. Last season was quite a relegation battle for them, they were only 1 point clear of relegation.
They are much more financially stable, which will be a nice change.
It has not started out great, though.
Right when I came in, the star left winger on the team needed his contract renewed, and he made some outrageous demands. He wanted to nearly triple his salary when he was already the highest paid player on the team.
I didn't want to totally destroy the wage structure right when I got there so I immediately transfer listed him. I had a few suitors, and eventually sold him to an Italian club for $950k, up to $1.5m with incentives. The largest transfer fee received in the club's history.
But the players were NOT happy. I stressed to them the financial necessities of why I felt I had to sell him, but most were still upset. I don't know if that contributed to the poor start or not, but to say I got off on the wrong foot with the locker room was an understatement, lol. I still think it was the right thing to do. He had 12 months left on his deal, and with his initial demands, I was pretty confident we would not reach an agreement, and I did not want to get 1 year out of him and then lose him on a free transfer.
Just got my first win of the Platanias career, so hopefully things are looking up and we'll rebound from our bad start!

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Just finished season 1 with Arsenal. Update coming later.
Koscielny wants an improved contract. He's currently on £90,000/week but looks to want a 3 year deal and £175,000/week.
Man he's one of my favorites, but I will not pay and already 32 year old CB those wages. Not even sure what's "reasonable" to offer...

This game, man...
Own goal in the first minute, and a straight red in the 17th minute. Sometimes, it's just not your night.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
So this happened, and went through. He paid no money for the club and injected no money into the club.
He took out a new big loan (910K) to pay off the others from stadium expansions. And again, injected no money into the club. We are currently 1.2M in the red. I think I'm going to actually take my first club into administration. I might just have to tank the roster for the good of the club. Release everyone end of the current season and sign players for peanuts and get relegated. Then hope I don't get fired. Actually I might just get relegated this season anyways. Its not looking good early.
Also I lied about playing every game. I'm addicted to the instant result button. I can't help myself. It makes the seasons go by so fast.
Spoiler
Seasons 6 after bringing in more players we couldn't afford.
First season in League One. We flirted with relegation all season. Then had a bit of a lucky run to end the season. We played all four teams who were relegated to end out the season.
After selling the top two earners for close to nothing and not being able to bring in anyone other than our own youth prospects, our second season in League One. We over performed big time.
However after that season I had to release six players on a free because I couldn't get them to resign for less wages. I'm trying to get our wages as low as possible. Because we are just bleeding money. And a few of our youth players demanded release because they weren't getting enough game time. They would have been starters the next season. But they were unhappy, I couldn't get them to sign new contracts. So I lost four of them on a free also.
Wages were at one point 40K, pretty on par for League One. I've now got them down to ~25K. But I need to get that down to around 10K. We just aren't making money on ticket sales. And you don't get much money for playing in League One.
This isn't how I expected this save to go. It was super easy early. And is now incredibly difficult. I thought it would be much harder earlier. And then it would be slightly easier once I got up in the VNL when I could get better players. But I rose up too fast. And didn't let the game adapt to that. I have super low rep for a league one team. So we don't really sell tickets. And we have to over pay to get league one talent to play for us. If we would have had a slower rise, our rep would be on par with what it should be.

The Instant Result button is very nice for games that I don't care about, I still play approximately 1/3 of my games though, but 1st Round cup-ties against 5th division opposition aren't entertaining to me anymore.Support Local Sports
